Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS on Raspberri PI

2020-02-15 Thread DomieMic65

With a passive heat-sink type aluminium case rpi4 runs just fine with
piCore/LMS (no Squeezelite).
Even when upsamling with C-3PO to 24/192 it's about 50°C in room
temperature 20-22°C.
I have not tested with LMS & Squeezelite.

Soundflower (2ch) line is removed as Marco suggested in a previous post
...
-o line is not removed (when I removed it SL didn't start)

So with S.flower(2.ch) line removed, the -o line NOT removed changing
output in Mac settings doesn't get recognized from S.lite. Unloading and
reloading SL after the output setting of course!

Maybe I should first unload squeezelite then change output in mac
settings and after that reload squeezelite?

Thank you!!

Please can you tel me how I set a default device in SL with the -o
option? MacOS sees my DAC as "Evo Dac Two Output"

When I removed the -o line from .plist SL didn't reload
Changing output (usb, I have two usb dacs) on the mac and reloading SL
the output was not recognised

Finally it worked!! Victory
With the above settings Marco suggested!
With the -W parameter!
And with bit perfect playback! S. rate changes according to the file
(C-3PO not enabled of cource)
Also squeezelite starts on boot of the Mac.

A huge thank you ralphy and marco1712

If I change some settings in the C-3PO the output device is going to
build in sound even though in the Mac settings I have selected my usb
dac.
When I reboot the Mac it goes to Squeezelite again!
What is the command in the terminal that i must give to restart
Squeezelite?

Yes I know about -W and c-3po ... I just wanted to see if s.lite (not
R2) would work before I start experimenting with R2.

I will try what you suggest... yes I get white noise!

Oh!!!
I though I should use :0 instead of :100
Thank you!

Why is that about the name?
In my setup it's -n not -N does this matter?
All this : "/var/log/squeezelite.name" must be replaced with my name?

I passed the -o option step and finished the guide
I see Squeezeplay in LMS and I can play music when using the system
output device.
There is a problem though ... the output device seems its affected by
the audio midi setup and the setting it has ... so the playback it's not
bit perfect!

Finally I discovered I have a big issue!
When I rebooted my Mac the local music database disappeared from LMS. I
have to rescan and rebuild the database from scratch!
Any idea why this might happen?

I'm very sorry but I don't know the procedure to do all that!
I do not even know what a port audio source tree is, how to access it
and how to add the above code.
And of course the squeezelite r2 rebuild!
If you or anyone else can help with the exact how to, I would be
grateful!!

Very interesting info about Mac mini! I have seen you are mentioning it
to your pages too!
As I read elsewhere in these forums LMS doesn't work very well in older
MacOS that the 2009 mini supports. I don't remember exactly the reason
now!

How would you suggest to use it? For LMS and S.liteR2? Only for S.lite?

Thanks a lot!!

Thank you very much...!!! the last months I got somehow familiar with
LMS, picore, and now gentooplayer.. I have absolutely no experience with
Debian and I don't know if I will manage to make things work!
Do you have any specific image to suggest for Rpi4 that will be adequate
for the indented use?
Filippo has been very supportive in deed I will point him to this
conversation!

Would a 2009 mac mini do the job? But still I don't know if I will
manage to make Linux installation on a Mac...

Once more thank you for your support!

Yes you have posted before my bad! Thnx again and sorry for
repeating myself!
All this new info is a bit confusing to me!
I think that updating openssl on the Mac is not very doable for me
because there are some steps before the guide in the link that I don’t
think I know how to implement.

I don’t mind setting up the server again. Knowledge comes with
repetition! No?
So I will consider the rpi4 option too.

I get your point and I guess you are right!!
When I get back home I must search on the SSL libraries (I do not know
what ssl libraries are or do) and see what I can do. Any links are very
much appreciated!
What problems might that create on my setup?
I didn’t use it a lot because I had to leave for sometime but as far as
I used it I didn’t notice something.

The other option I am considering is another sbc, probably rpi4, for
LMS.
The cost is about the same for me because I was considering to buy
another ssd to install in my mini in order to make the Linux os
experiment. I hope I will manage to solve the heating up issue with a
passive cooling case or any other passive cooling solution.

So the question is LMS in old macOS/old Mac or in new sbc?

Thank you Michael

Thank you so much Ronnie!
I will try when I get back home (now I'm on vacation) in about 3 weeks.
I think I will take advantage from your offer!

Interesting! Thank you!
If I don’t install it and run from the usb will it be responsive enough
running LMS only, to decide if I will move to proper installation!
Probably only practice will tell

[I think this is a better thread for this question (I made the same in a
thread I opened in the Beginners forum)... maybe it can be deleted from
there if the admins think it should!]

Would you suggest to install a Linux distribution on my Mac mini (Late
2009, SSD, 8GB RAM) running El Capitan at the moment (the last os that
supports this model) in order to use it as LMS machine?
What Os would you suggest? Daphile? Ubuntu?
Now I use LMS installed on El Capitan but as said before there maybe
some problems because of the old macOS.
Would it be possible to dual boot?
I have completely no experience in installing and using Linux.

Thnx!

Found this link about the exact same mac:
https://www.zealfortechnology.com/2018/07/revive-old-mac-mini-2009-with-linux.html

An option would be to leave the existing ssd as is in case I want to go
back to macOS again and buy a new one to try Linux.

Thanks for the links guys!!
I think that I must wait a little before experimenting with pi4. I
suppose that some kind of metal-heatsink cases will be available and/or
some kind of software tweaks sometime in the next months. Hopefully...

I have a 3B+ now used for piCore in my Mac setup as I described above
and a 3B.
I guess I can use the B+ for LMS and B for piCore until the 4 issues get
solved..

Very nice case.

So the 4 with a heatsink attached how hot does it get running LMS?
Thnx!

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Server Machine Alternatives.

2019-08-03 Thread DomieMic65

Thank you very much for your replies!

I have already installed LMS on my old, late 2009 Mac mini (el Capitan)
streaming to my rpi3b+.
I have also a rpi3b laying around.
And I am very much considering of buying the rpi4b (4bg).
I have tried LMS to my Synology nas too but it was not a very good idea.
(Old version of LMS and slow performance)

LMS options
1) Mac mini with macOS as is. (Potential problems because of the old OS)
2) Mac mini with Linux installed (needs wipe and dedicating the computer
to LMS only. Not that now I use it much anyway). It has 8GB of RAM and
128gb ssd, so it runs quite fast despite it’s age for media only
machine. The drawback of this is that it isn’t fanless and headless
(although this can be done I suppose)
3) LMS on a RPi (my existing rpi or rpi4 for better performance). This
has the advantage of using piCore and no need for another Linux distro
for LMS. Yes?
4) another better spec’d computer, SBC or not for LMS. (NUC, Odroid ...
) running Windows or Linux.

Any ideas / suggestion?

Is it possible to use two Rpis to setup a server/client setup with
piCore running in both?
In the first (rpi4 may be) running only LMS, with squeezelite and
everything that has to do with “playing” disabled, and the second only
with piCore without LMS installed?

I am very new here so excuse my noob questions...
