Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Install on RaspberryPi: "Trying to commit transactions before DB is initialized!"

2021-07-10 Thread bvrulez

Thanks for the hint, that the message is "normal". I found LMS running
on port 9001. But I did not know that it automatically 'changes'
its port.

Just for completeness: I used 8.1.1., not the nightly build 8.1.2 you
suggested.

But many thanks for the comprehensive answer!

It is a bit sad that there is no standard source for installation
information that would contain the port changing information and also
some information on dependencies. Or maybe there is and I just don't
know?

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Install on RaspberryPi: "Trying to commit transactions before DB is initialized!"

2021-07-10 Thread bvrulez

I installed the *all* (also tried with *arm*) from '8.1.1.'
(https://downloads.slimdevices.com/LogitechMediaServer_v8.1.1) on a
RaspberryPi.

I also installed some dependencies:
Code:

Not sure about them since I just got them from 'here'

Now I get this error:

I am late to the party. But this is something I really like. My library
contains of good music from different genres, and I definitely enjoy the
change! I also enjoy the discovery: "Oh boy, haven't listened to this
song in such a long time." If I don't like it I would not have put it
into my library.

On the other hand: I like to DJ with vinyl. And it helps me to remember
the tracks in my "real" collections if I occationally listen to their
digital counterparts, and ALL of them, in random order. I then have to
think: On what vinly is this track? This is really hard and necessary.

Hey philchilllbill, as suspected I run into troubles. That's why I did
not set it up yet.

I have a working NGINX config for my Radicale account. Radicale is an
option to have a CalDAV and CardDAV server at home. This setup is
special because I use the credentials I put in to log into NGINX also to
log into the Radicale account that gets proxied. I copied this mostly
from a German site.

Now I want to add a plain and "simple" NGINX authentication to let me
access the LMS which is on the same server but under a different port,
of course.

I have one user in my
Code:

.htpasswd

. I just put a second user and password in with the appropriate command.

I CAN LOG INTO PORT 18889 BUT THEN I DON'T GET FORWARDED TO LMS BUT I
SEE A PAGE OF NGINX TELLING ME IT IS RUNNING BUT NEEDS MORE CONFIG.

Can you maybe spot the issue?

This is my

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Random Tracks Playlist - Are played tracks counted? - Feature request

2021-02-15 Thread bvrulez

Thanks, I will check the plugin out!

BTW: Are random selections working well? I have some weird behavior.

My genre "Discogs" shows 463 tracks. But if I do a random playlist from
this genre with the "random *artist*" or "random *album*" I get all
sorts of additional tracks that should not be in there.

I checked if I might have tagged wrong mp3-tags but this is not the case
(also those tracks do not come up under the genre as I said and they are
in totally different folders.).

It's always the same:

- Random titles -> correct tracks from just that genre
- Random artists (Interpreten in german) -> some of the correct tracks
plus mostly totally wrong tracks
- Random albums -> a lot of the correct tracks but some weird additional
ones

Also, every time I do this and delete the playlist, the order of the
ramdomly added tracks is exactly the same. I do this from the main
"random titles" menu in the GUI.

I just updated from 7.9 to 8.1 and deleted and re-scaned my library.

Sorry for the long post. I maybe should start a new thread on this.

Okay, so based on this I now assume that when I power off the Squeezebox
and start it again this means the mix is not restarted but it is the
same mix running. This is good.

But I might listen to other channels in between, e.g. a web radio.

When I come back to the random mix by pressing the physical button it
then will be started again.

I thank you very much for replying. Have a nice week!

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Random Tracks Playlist - Are played tracks counted? - Feature request

2021-02-14 Thread bvrulez

Thanks for the comprehensive responses!

I am indeed referring to multiple starts of "random" and it would be a
good thing if a counter in the background puts a value to a song in
terms of amounts played.

*But just in this special context,* not an overall counter. The context
should be defined by the _settings_of_the_random_menu._ In my case I
have just one option set for one certain genre. (I DJ as a hobby and I
want to make sure I listen to all of the tracks in my repertoire.)

A simpler option would be to use a global counter: The random playlist
will arrange only the least played tracks in general. This would be a
good intermediate solution. There should be an option to set all tracks
to 0, for having a clean start.

Another option could be to create a huge playlist. As I understand a
click/press will start a playlist of 20 songs. If a larger playlist of
all possible songs would be created it could be saved and then restored
upon the next start (of the same context). Maybe it would also be
possible to save a huge list but only load 20 songs out of it, save the
last song when "power off" is pressed and then load 20 songs from that
starting point at the next start.

Just some thoughts. Maybe some day I will be able to code that stuff,
too. With 40 years of age I still have about 30 left to learn.

Have a nice winter day!

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Random Tracks Playlist - Are played tracks counted? - Feature request

2021-02-14 Thread bvrulez

I made a playlist for random tracks per title of a certain genre and
saved it as a playlist.

Will the titles that have been played with that list be saved/counted so
they will not re-occur before the whole genre "played through"?

If not, I would like to suggest this as a feature.

Also, I put this playlist of random tracks on a physical preset button
of my Boom. This was only possible through the physical device, by
putting the playlist under favorites on the server via WebGUI and then
finding it on the physical device under favorites and long-pressing the
button. I would suggest putting an option on the GUI, also.

Thanks again for this awesome software/hardware-combination! Using it
for years now and loving it more every year!

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Server settings not saved after adding a media folder

2020-03-14 Thread bvrulez

I have this issue for some time now that I want to add a folder to the
server in the media folder section and it is not saved. Also, normally
after changing something in settings and then leaving the page it asks
if the changes should be saved. This dialog does not come up. So,
somehow the server does not see the changes I make via the WEB GUI. I
guess. Weird thing is that the file
Code:

server.prefs

has the date set to my last saving time. So, saving works, but the
value does not reach the file.

Logitech Media Server Version: 7.9.2 - 1572699180

I have 7 squeezeboxes organised in two synchronised setups and my server

As you can see under 'Use%' your 'log' folder is full. I am not an
expert in this but you will probably need to reduce its usage.

Also, the error regardin 'LZMAFILE' seems to relate to a packed file
(that probably needs to be unpacked but cannot due to lack of space).

Lack of space may be related to a certain part of the disk. Please give
output of `sudo df`.

You said you removed `perl` but the error is about `python`. From my
knowledge there can be multiple versions of `python` on one system. I am
not sure if it is related. The error coming up at `purge` seems to
indicate that there is indeed a problem with the OS, maybe? But again, I
am just guessing. I would still advice you to buy a cheap RaspberryPI
(model 2 would be enough) and put your LMS there. This would make it
possible to listen to music while solving the problem. :)

Following a hint from someone I allowed all ports from a certain

seems that the connection is established using a different port than the
one I know: 3438. Or maybe there is something wrong with my firewall

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Can I copy server.prefs from one machine to another? (No connection with firewall)

2019-09-10 Thread bvrulez

I have two Raspberries with Raspbian on them and copied the
Code:

/var/lib/squeezeboxserver/prefs/server.prefs

from one machine to the other.

I have uncomplicated firewall activated. It is on both like this:

Code:

 $ sudo ufw status
  Status: active

  To Action From
  -- --
  22/tcp LIMIT Anywhere
  22 ALLOW 192.168.100.0/24
  90 ALLOW 192.168.100.0/24
  31337 ALLOW 192.168.100.0/24
  3438 ALLOW 192.168.100.0/24
  9000 ALLOW 192.168.100.0/24
  9090 ALLOW 192.168.100.0/24
  445ALLOW 192.168.100.0/24
  8200 ALLOW 192.168.100.0/24
  1900 ALLOW 192.168.100.0/24
  22/tcp (v6)LIMIT Anywhere (v6)

A few days ago I changed my hostname. Yesterday I rebooted both
machines. They also run bitcoin, minidlna and cifs and it all works.
Both hostnames look like this (RPi2 for the other machine).

Code:

 $ cat /etc/hosts
  127.0.0.1 localhost
  ::1   localhost ip6-localhost ip6-loopback
  ff02::1   ip6-allnodes
  ff02::2   ip6-allrouters

  127.0.1.1 RPi3
  ~ - 08:22:33 - pi - RPi3@192.168.100.169 Tue Sep 10
  $ cat /etc/hostname
  RPi3

My squeezeboxes can access the old server but *they can not access the
new server unless I deactivate the firewall. * I don't understand this
behaviour. First, I thought it might be related to the firewall setting
up its rules with hostnames. I was under the impression that deleting
the rule and setting it up newly was helping. But today I again have the
same problem. My squeezebox does not connect.

I *can* connect via the GUI, but it then of course shows no entry for
the boxes.

I checked the server.log to find out why 7.9.1 was not working. I found
this (and a lot more similar messages):

2019-08-08 15:29:44 Logitech Media Server died. Restarting.

The time does not fit to my first approach of installing but maybe I did
purge afterwards. As I said above I am running 7.9.2 nightly now and it
is fine but it would be interesting to know why the stable version of
7.9.1 did crash this way.

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Unable to reach LMS web gui after fresh installation

2019-08-08 Thread bvrulez

I installed LMS 7.9.1 on a fresh install of Raspbian Buster. The service
is up and running, which I check with service logitechmediaserver
status. There are no disks connected to the Raspi and no media should be
scanned. However, I can not access the web gui under
http://RaspiIP:9000. I can ping the Raspi of course from my Laptop and I
am logged into via SSH.

I downloaded the ARM64.deb from here and my Pi is 3 Model B
http://downloads.slimdevices.com/LogitechMediaServer_v7.9.1/.

I have a second Raspi running in my network, but of course under a
different IP since it is another ethernet port. It is reachable via
browser. I also use 7.9.1 there.

I read a lot about this problem online and came across the cache problem
which does not apply here. I also checked with another browser I never
use.

Where can I check if the port 9000 is correct? Is there another reason
for the problem?

Another option would be to at least add directories to the favorite

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] How to create a playlist via webGui or Squeezer app?

2019-06-30 Thread bvrulez

I run LMS 7.9.2 and want to create a playlist from the WebGUI (which I
have never done before). I also use the app Squeezer (which is fast and
slim, and I like this a lot). In the app I have the option to chose
playlists to play from and also to save a playlist and give it a name.
But the list of playlists stays empty. On the LMS webGUI I don't see
that option at all, meaning I can not create a playlist nor play from
one. I read about having to add a directory for the playlists manually.
Is this really necessary? And if so what permissions should I give?
Thanks!

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] How are videos streamed (Why are my MKV not playable)?

2019-05-18 Thread bvrulez

Thanks for clarifying. I have several TB of video ripped from my DVDs
and it is all in MKV (and since that is just a container I am not really
sure what exactly they are). So converting is not an option. But my
"old" Samsung TV with SmartTV is playing them without problems als as I
said minidlna is used for this on the server. Maybe someone wants to use
this and fork it as a plugin for LMS.

I have this plugin activated already and streaming is not working.

Just to make it clear: minidlna (readymedia) is a nice and small
DLNA-server that works well on my Raspberry Pi and other servers. Maybe
using this tool in LMS would be possible for a developer.

Cheers,

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] How are videos streamed (Why are my MKV not playable)?

2019-05-14 Thread bvrulez

I use minidlna on a raspberry to stream my MKV videos to my TV. I also
use LMS for streaming audio to my squeezeboxes. I thought about doing
the video also with LMS but the videos are not playable on my TV. They
are displayed as folders and files, though. I was wondering which part
of LMS is doing the streaming, since minidlna works fine with all my
files.

Thanks for the detailed reply! What happens if TuneIn goes out of

that happens.

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] How does streaming actually work?

2019-04-10 Thread bvrulez

I have my own LMS and I listen a lot to deephouse-radio.com. I am
wondering how this actually works since I cannot find a TuneIN plugin in
my local server. Also, there is no "radio.de" plugin. How does my LMS
know about deephouse-radio.com and all the other stations?

This is also interesting, because I sometimes have problems to start a
stream or a stream gets paused without any reason. So I was wondering if
my LMS actually connects to the station itself or if there is a third
party involved here.

Also, I was wondering how I could set up my own free streaming service
and if the LMS could be of any help with this.

Cheers,
Ben

Where can I check this via command line?

Also, I wanted to ask how to remove a (3rd-party) plugin. In my case I
used plugins for youtube and mixcloud and they don't work any more. I
would like to re-install them freshly but can only deactivate them in
the GUI. Upon re-acitvation they have the same settings (API for
connection etc.).

Thanks for the reply. Apparently, I installed 7.9 like I said in this
post a few days ago 'here'
I downloaded the .deb from slimdevices.com.

I use a plugin to play songs from youtube. This worked well in the past.
Maybe I have to renew some API code because I updated the LMS.

My GUI looks like the attached screenshot. Is this normal?

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] New Layout?

2019-03-12 Thread bvrulez

Hi, is there a new layout with latest version from slimdevices.com? I
had to re-install my stuff and now I recognised that the GUI looks
differently. Also, I am not able to play a video from youtube. I can put
the video in the field and it gets found but there is no start button.
This whole thing looks a bit half-finished. I testet in another browser
and it looks the same. Version should be 7.2 if that's the latest one.

I was wondering about this also. My RPI is some years old so I would
suspect it should be a 32bit. But I read that newer ones run 32bit
Software on 64 architecture. That's why I was not sure what to use as
download. Maybe the process gets killed because it is not 32bit? But
should there not be an error loading it anyway?

Thanks a lot Michael!

*server.log tells me that the process died and is restarting. This seems
to happen every 8 seconds. The version is v7.9.1 and it is 64bit.*

scanner.log has the last entry from 4 months ago.

perfmon.log is empty.

Maybe I should purge the whole program and reinstall new. Can you tell
me where the settings are stored so I might be able to make a backup?

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LSM on Raspi is running but Website not reachable

2019-03-05 Thread bvrulez

I have been running LMS on my Raspi for a while now and never had
issues. Today I rewired all my connections on my desk and therefore
switched the Raspi on and off several times.

Now, I cannot connect to the Web GUI any more. I am able to connect via
SSH and Teamviewer. My several Squeezeboxes and my Android app Squeezer
also cannot find the server.

I tried

Code:

sudo service logitechmediaserver status

and also start, stop, restart and force-reload to make sure the serice
runs fine. I get the output that the service is running activley (on
status).

I also checked my router in case it is a firewall thing. It is an EDGE
Router with a highly configurable GUI so I am not really able to tell if
all is fine there. Given that I never had problems I would not
understand why it now should block anything from my Raspi. I have a
forwarding rule for incomming traffic to my NAS which originally
included the port 9000 which the Raspi is using. Since I don't connect
via internet but just inside my LAN this should not be a problem, but to
make sure I took 9000 out of the range and added a rule to forward it to
the Raspi.

I also tried to install the latest version of LMS using the download
from slimdevices and then stopping the server and

Code:

sudo dpkg -i dowload_arm_all.deb

I am not sure if my Rasperry is 32 or 64 bit but since I did not get an
error I think I managed to do well with the file "_all".

Which outputs should be comming after this command?

Also, where can I check which version of LMS is actually running to make
sure the update did work?

I wanted to do a re-install with preserving my settings. That's why I
did not purge before installing the update. Should I purge? Is there a
way to save the settings for all my boxes?

Thanks a lot!
Ben
