I see that Material has an “Information - Updates available” route,
which I have never noticed/used.

That is the route I used. My guess is that most go that way since the
top right green indicator of updates being available … so click on that
and quickly get to the list of updated plugins and then update from
there.

Maybe that would be something to report in a Material thread?

If you click on an individual plugin update you are shown the changelog.

In Material, I would do “Settings|Server|Plugins”. From here you should
be able to select individual plugins to update.

Did you go in via a different route ? I see that Material has an
“Information - Updates available” route, which I have never
noticed/used.

As expected, it lists the updated plugins but does not provide a way to

No problem with that as I expect that most people will want to update

Removing that second, pesky, '-exists-' will "correct" matters when it
comes to updates,

By which I mean to say, removing *both* '-exists-'.

Hmm... doing so actually resulted in what you describe: instead of
installing new plugins, they showed up in the "updates available" list.

I'm going to revert this change. I'd like to release 8.3 really soon.

Your recent fix
(https://github.com/Logitech/slimserver/commit/dc39e5b5b06ee9efc2c0edabe1117e1b60819045)
doesn't do the trick here.

I find that: '-exists $params->{"install:$plugin"}-' always evaluates to
true (1) when the plugin update is available. So the update proceeds,
regardless of the state of the "update" checkbox.

Removing that second, pesky, '-exists-' will "correct" matters when it
comes to updates, but now interferes with the first plugin installation.
In this scenario, when first installing, the plugin is not actually
installed but does get shown in the "Updated plugins available" section.
Which, if then checked, will then install. But this is not how it's
meant to work.

I haven't sat down and worked out the logic of what's going on.

I've never got around to testing the point, let alone working up a

and I think in Material you do not have an option to choose which
plugins to update.
You can view the update changes (by clicking on the plugin that is being
offered to update) but there is no option to deselect.
I have no issue with that - Material makes things simple.

However, if a change to LMS/Default resulted in inability to update via
Material (because plugins cannot be selected) then that would not be a
good outcome.

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Plugins update when not selected

2022-10-30 Thread Paul Webster

This might be something new happening in 8.3 compared to 8.2

When there are multiple plugins listed as having updates available and I
choose just 1 of them ... LMS downloads and installs all of the
available plugin updates not just the selected one.

I have automatic download disabled.

I would prefer to have only the plugins that I select be
downloaded/updated so that I can hold back an update if I want to.

Thank you for your insight, Michael. I can now see that the time problem
is key. Should have noticed before that the 'time screen' on my SQB
radio is totally incorrect. This, I assume, is why I am getting the
'Connect time out' messages - i.e. due to a mismatch between when I make
the request in (false) picoreplayer time as compared to the response in
real time.
I have rebooted pcp and restarted lms as you have suggested, but have
not solved the time problem.
It may be of interest to relate that if I run my SQB radio from a laptop
with lms 8.1.1 downloaded, there is no similar timing problem. However,
the laptop is closed a large part of the day and is not a solution I am
happy with.
So, what next? All help most gratefully received.

No major bug, but there have been a number of fixes for various things
since then. And updating is very simple. A couple of mouse clicks and
then LMS will restart automatically with the new version. All your
settings survive.

notice you're on 8.1.1 from January. in rPi webGUI: LMS tab, select
"select branch" and STABLE. Then click on UPDATE LMS. This will take
you to a new page and likely it will say "No Update Found".But below
that, click on the "Manual Update Button". It will then download and
install the latest 8.1.x LMS. You should then end up with:

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Plugins not updating

2021-06-16 Thread Redrum

Here is one, specifically the nice summary from @kidstypike (post #19)
https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?114408-Setting-Up-LMS-On-A-Raspberry-Pi-4B
This will get you from install of pCP as a LMS server, through mounting
a drive.

Here's a lng thread with some useful info in it
https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?113058-Raspberry-Pi-basics

But, as Paul said, start with the "official" instructions, but realize
that pCP functions, syntax, semantics evolve faster than the
documentation, so it is easy for the documentation to be essentially
correct, but slightly different than you will actually experience.
That's why I like post #19 of the first thread. It's simple, current,
and works.

The other thing to take caution in, especially if you setup Samba, is to
make sure your labels/names are exactly correct (including upper/lower
case). I remember my first time setting up Samba entering the server and
share names, then going to windows to create a network location,
creating the path using those names and it not
working...repeatedly...until I finally found a lower case letter than
needed to be upper.

You will not regret moving your LMS to a rpi. A little inexpensive box
that can remain on always, draws very little power, and is quite nimble.
The UI is simple and highly functional, and if you aren't using it
already I (and others) recommend using the material skin plugin, it s a
great LMS UI

You could start with the "official" ones ... which would usually be
enough.
If you find that they do not help enough then pointing out where they
are not clear enough would help to get them improved.

I use a Pi to run LMS with an attached hard drive. The PCp player
includes Samba which will allow window 10 system to connect to the pi.
I also use my windows system to add music and also use the hard drive
attached to the pi as a on-site backup.

I am not a Linux expert and I was able to set it up and use it.

You will need a pi, case, and power supply. If you are concerned about
electric use and heat, you might want a pi 3B. If you want a faster USB
hub and want the latest get a 4. Read through the Pi core player
documentation, it is not difficult but you do need atttention to syntax
details.

I had put off the transition to the pi, but wish I did it sooner as I am
very happy with the little box that take up little space, makes no
sound, and uses a lot less electricity than running a larger computer.

Good luck.

An alternative to a Pi based solution could be a CORE32 from
Polyvection. It is probably dearer than a Pi based solution but the aim
is to be easier to setup but may have limitations to achieve that .

First units have not been delivered (shipping promised about now - 3rd
week of June) so you'll have to wait for real user opinions.

The minimum that you need is a Raspberry Pi (probably a 4 or a 3) and a
power supply.

give picoreplayer.org a try - it's linux optimized to run Squeezelite
and/or LMS on a Pi.

Yes, this can be set up.

Any clues on what I would need ?

I'd recommend a Pi4 with 2GB of RAM, and a good case. I'm using the
popular Flirc case, as it's cooking the CPU well.

I am feeling that you are right.
I started to look at the Raspberry Pi but got quickly confused by the
overwhelming varieties/accessories/daughterboards/ etc etc.

It just looked too hard.

I will go down that rabbit hole again and see what I find.

Just a basic stand alone unit that can run LMS ( mostly mp3 & FLAC
files, some at high rez )
I run gigabit LAN to ASUS modem/router.
Touch is LAN , 2 booms and 2 classics are wifi.

I'm not sure what happened but today I was able to reinstall the
Mixcloud and the Bandcamp plugin and they work fine now. Maybe it had
something to do with the DSM 6.2.3 v 3 update too. I'm happy again ;-)
As I understand it, I must NOT update DSM to v7.0 in the future to keep
my squeezeboxes working.

Thanks for all the hard work in keeping the SB community alive!

Sorry for another question, this is quite complex material for me.

I have downloaded the x86_64 package from the other thread mentioned
above. Can I simply update the existing package with this v8.0 by
uploading the *.spk package to my DSM 218+?
I'm hesitant to do that because when it does not work I'm afraid I
cannot revert to the existing (beta) package since it is not available
anymore to reinstall. (And I cannot find a way to safely export existing
packages to re-use later)

Installing the docker lms package seems to be a good alternative but
this is somewhat beyond my capabilities to configure :(

Thanks. I will check the Synology thread. But as far as I see there is
no update available in the synology third party apps (package center).

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Plugins gone + no 'third party plugins' checkbox

2020-12-18 Thread SlimPvC

Today I noticed that my favourite plugins (Bandcamp, Spotty, Mixcloud)
are not accessible anymore. (I'm using LMS 7.9.1 on Synology NAS).
When checking the plugins page, I see

-"Bad repository http://repos.squeezecommunity.org/extensions.xml -
Redirection limit exceeded"-

Also, there's no checkbox available anymore to add third-party plugins.

Anyone has any information, or tips to correct this so I can use these
plugins again?

Thanks!
Peter

expected behaviour? It seems to ignore the checkbox completely.

Like he said, unpredictable things happen when you start mixing
installation methods... just don't do it.

The plugin manager will automatically download the extension if it
thinks there is a problem in the installed plugin folder.and since
it only knows about the latest release via the repo.xml file, that's
what gets installed.

I've said this many times before and will repeat it: do NOT mess with
the plugin installer. If you install a plugin using it get rid of it the

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Plugins updating unexpectedly

2019-08-13 Thread slartibartfast

Recently I downloaded material skin from github and installed it over
the released plugin. When I opened the plugins tab in LMS settings a
couple of days later I noticed that I was being offered my previously
installed release version as an update. As I didn't want to replace the
github version I did not tick the box to update but I did install
another plugin. After restarting LMS, material skin had been "updated"
to the release version. Surely the plugin should not be updated unless I
tick the box to allow it. I am pretty sure I have seen this behaviour
before when I knew the latest version of a plugin had issues and I was
prepared to wait for the next version but LMS decided to install it
anyway. I don't allow plugins to update automatically.

Static IP addresses should always be outside the dhcp scope!
Alternative is to use a feature like IP bind to make sure a device
always gets the same IP. Disadvantage by uses this feature is that if
you change router you have to make sure to copie entire IP bind table.
Advantage of the feature is that all setting for a device are
automatically done right. So if you would change dns you don't have to
change all static devices.

Don't worry too much about that error message ... it happens a lot
without any obvious side-effects (here at least).

Probably best to start a new thread with what you see as the problem
with your plugin(s) - and people can advise on what to do next to
diagnose and resolve.

Good to hear it's fixed :-)
It's a good solution to use reservation IP's in the router (as you did)
to get the the benefits of both the simple client configuration and the
ease of finding for example the LMS server or a printer on the network.
Much easier to maintain over time IMO.

BosseJ, thank you for your reply. I just bought a new router and I
presume this new router is now protecting against duplicate IP-addresses
on the network. I changed the VB settings from "Static IP Address" to
DHCP, and it is now linking to the internet as it should. I was also
having trouble with my wireless printer, so I opened the settings on the
printer and likewise chose the DHCP (automatic) setting instead of the
manual static IP settings and bingo, it started working also. Thanks

It is possible that the router is blocking internet access for your
Vortexbox server since you have statically assigned an IP-address on the
server and at the same time made a reservation in the router (to be
handed out when the Vortexbox request a DHCP-address, which it doesn't).
>From the router perspective the Vortexbox has a duplicate IP_address and
hence it is blocked (most routers have protection against duplicate
IP-addresses on the network).
You could test by either configuring the Vortexbox to use DHCP or to
remove the reservation in the router. I would recommend to test DHCP
first.

It should not be an issue provided they work.
Can you get a terminal (such as SSH or Telnet) into the VB and use some
tools, such as ping/traceroute/dig etc, to see if the DNS lookups are
working?

shows fine in both browsers.

Check server.log to see if there is any record of failure to get the
info about the plugins.

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Plugins

2018-11-06 Thread Fredo

The "Plugins" tab in settings does not return the list of Plugins. I can
click on any of the tabs in settings and get the information that should
be there but when I click on the Plugins tab nothing happens. I am using
LMS version 7.9.1. Any suggestions about what I might be doing wrong?

Any plugin, yes.

I checked server.log and you are 100% correct. Permission issue. Not
sure why, and I wasn't the best way to fix it, but I used "chmod 777"
and it has fixed the issue.

Do let me know if there is better way to fix than that, but for now, it
works fine.

Thank you so much :)

_any_ plugin?

Check server.log: any hint about the prefs failing to be written to disk?

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Plugins won't install

2018-03-08 Thread amey01

I'm sure I've had this problem before (and solved it), but I just can't
work it out.

LMS: 7.9.1
OS: Raspbian

1. When I try to install any plugin, it appears to install and asks for
restart.
2. When I go back to the plugins page, the plugin has not installed.

What is going on?
