Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Plugins update when not selected
I see that Material has an “Information - Updates available” route, which I have never noticed/used. That is the route I used. My guess is that most go that way since the top right green indicator of updates being available … so click on that and quickly get to the list of updated plugins and then update from there. Maybe that would be something to report in a Material thread? ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

Removing that second, pesky, '-exists-' will "correct" matters when it comes to updates, By which I mean to say, removing *both* '-exists-'. Hmm... doing so actually resulted in what you describe: instead of installing new plugins, they showed up in the "updates available" list. I'm going to revert this change. I'd like to release 8.3 really soon. This problem has been around for a while, and isn't really a deal breaker. Your recent fix (https://github.com/Logitech/slimserver/commit/dc39e5b5b06ee9efc2c0edabe1117e1b60819045) doesn't do the trick here. I find that: '-exists $params->{"install:$plugin"}-' always evaluates to true (1) when the plugin update is available. So the update proceeds, regardless of the state of the "update" checkbox. Removing that second, pesky, '-exists-' will "correct" matters when it comes to updates, but now interferes with the first plugin installation. In this scenario, when first installing, the plugin is not actually installed but does get shown in the "Updated plugins available" section. Which, if then checked, will then install. But this is not how it's meant to work. I haven't sat down and worked out the logic of what's going on. mrw's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=38299 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=116987 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter
Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Plugins update when not selected
I have wondered if the problem is here: https://github.com/Logitech/slimserver/blob/public/8.3/Slim/Plugin/Extensions/Settings.pm#L191 Good finding! I could be way off target, but: Only a little ;-). But that plugin handling code for whatever reason is way more convoluted than I'd like... I suspect that '-exists $params->{"install:$plugin"}-' is always true when a plugin is installed. So the state of '-exists To my surprise this isn't set to true when reaching those lines during installation. Maybe it's changed along the way somewhere. I don't know. If I changed that check, none of the plugins would be installed, but added to the "update available" list. But: $params->{"update:$plugin"}-' becomes irrelevant. I assume that this This one actually is set. So... checking the existence only for "install", but the actual value for "update" seems to do the trick. Please give it a try. A new build is on its way. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Plugins update when not selected
and I think in Material you do not have an option to choose which plugins to update. You can view the update changes (by clicking on the plugin that is being offered to update) but there is no option to deselect. I have no issue with that - Material makes things simple. However, if a change to LMS/Default resulted in inability to update via Material (because plugins cannot be selected) then that would not be a good outcome. Should have noticed before that the 'time screen' on my SQB radio is totally incorrect. This, I assume, is why I am getting the 'Connect time out' messages - i.e. due to a mismatch between when I make the request in (false) picoreplayer time as compared to the response in real time. I have rebooted pcp and restarted lms as you have suggested, but have not solved the time problem. It may be of interest to relate that if I run my SQB radio from a laptop with lms 8.1.1 downloaded, there is no similar timing problem. However, the laptop is closed a large part of the day and is not a solution I am happy with. So, what next? Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Plugins not updating
Here is one, specifically the nice summary from @kidstypike (post #19) https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?114408-Setting-Up-LMS-On-A-Raspberry-Pi-4B This will get you from install of pCP as a LMS server, through mounting a drive. Here's a lng thread with some useful info in it https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?113058-Raspberry-Pi-basics But, as Paul said, start with the "official" instructions, but realize that pCP functions, syntax, semantics evolve faster than the documentation, so it is easy for the documentation to be essentially correct, but slightly different than you will actually experience. That's why I like post #19 of the first thread. It's simple, current, and works. The other thing to take caution in, especially if you setup Samba, is to make sure your labels/names are exactly correct (including upper/lower case). I remember my first time setting up Samba entering the server and share names, then going to windows to create a network location, creating the path using those names and it not working...repeatedly...until I finally found a lower case letter than needed to be upper. You will not regret moving your LMS to a rpi. A little inexpensive box that can remain on always, draws very little power, and is quite nimble. The UI is simple and highly functional, and if you aren't using it already I (and others) recommend using the material skin plugin, it s a great LMS UI Jim Redrum's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=33806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114718 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

You could start with the "official" ones ... which would usually be enough. If you find that they do not help enough then pointing out where they are not clear enough would help to get them improved. https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?114718-Plugins-not-updating=1025307=1#post1025307 Paul Webster http://dabdig.blogspot.com author of \"now playing\" plugins covering radio france (fip etc), planetradio (bauer - kiss, absolute, scala, jazzfm etc), kcrw, supla finland, abc australia, cbc/radio-canada and rte ireland Paul Webster's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=105 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114718 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

An alternative to a Pi based solution could be a CORE32 from Polyvection. It is probably dearer than a Pi based solution but the aim is to be easier to setup but may have limitations to achieve that . It just looked too hard. give picoreplayer.org a try - it's linux optimized to run Squeezelite and/or LMS on a Pi. The NAS is a bit power hungry to have on all the time, so would be looking at having my files on a USB HDD plugged into the Pi. Can that HDD be accessed via a windows PC on the same network ? ( to add new music ) Yes, this can be set up. Any clues on what I would need ? I'd recommend a Pi4 with 2GB of RAM, and a good case. I'm using the popular Flirc case, as it's cooking the CPU well. ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

I'm not sure what happened but today I was able to reinstall the Mixcloud and the Bandcamp plugin and they work fine now. Maybe it had something to do with the DSM 6.2.3 v 3 update too. I'm happy again ;-) As I understand it, I must NOT update DSM to v7.0 in the future to keep my squeezeboxes working. Thanks for all the hard work in keeping the SB community alive! Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Plugins gone + no 'third party plugins' checkbox
Sorry for another question, this is quite complex material for me. I have downloaded the x86_64 package from the other thread mentioned above. Can I simply update the existing package with this v8.0 by uploading the *.spk package to my DSM 218+? I'm hesitant to do that because when it does not work I'm afraid I cannot revert to the existing (beta) package since it is not available anymore to reinstall. (And I cannot find a way to safely export existing packages to re-use later) Installing the docker lms package seems to be a good alternative but this is somewhat beyond my capabilities to configure :( SlimPvC's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=51 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=113450 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Plugins updating unexpectedly
Recently I downloaded material skin from github and installed it over the released plugin. When I opened the plugins tab in LMS settings a couple of days later I noticed that I was being offered my previously installed release version as an update. As I didn't want to replace the github version I did not tick the box to update but I did install another plugin. After restarting LMS, material skin had been "updated" to the release version. Surely the plugin should not be updated unless I tick the box to allow it. I am pretty sure I have seen this behaviour before when I knew the latest version of a plugin had issues and I was prepared to wait for the next version but LMS decided to install it anyway. I don't allow plugins to update automatically. Static IP addresses should always be outside the dhcp scope! Alternative is to use a feature like IP bind to make sure a device always gets the same IP. Disadvantage by uses this feature is that if you change router you have to make sure to copie entire IP bind table. Advantage of the feature is that all setting for a device are automatically done right. So if you would change dns you don't have to change all static devices. *SqueezeBoxes:* 2x SB2 (Living room and study), 1x Radio (Kitchen), 1x Boom (Dining room), 1x piCorePlayer (jacuzzi), 1x piCorePlayer (Garden) 1x OSMC + Squeezelite (Movie room), 1x Touch (Bedroom) *Server:* LMS on Pi3 7.9.1. on PcP 3.21 *Network:* AVM Fritzbox, D-Link Smart Switch 24p, 3x Ubiquity edwin2006's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=66926 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109709 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

Don't worry too much about that error message ... it happens a lot without any obvious side-effects (here at least). Probably best to start a new thread with what you see as the problem with your plugin(s) - and people can advise on what to do next to diagnose and resolve. Good to hear it's fixed :-) It's a good solution to use reservation IP's in the router (as you did) to get the the benefits of both the simple client configuration and the ease of finding for example the LMS server or a printer on the network. Much easier to maintain over time IMO. 2 Touch, 1 Picoreplayer 4.0.0 on RaspBerry 3B with 7" display LMS latest nightly on Ubuntu 18.04.1 on Intel Core2 Duo E4500 @ 2.20GHz, 2GB All wired BosseJ's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=67378 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109709 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

BosseJ, thank you for your reply. I just bought a new router and I presume this new router is now protecting against duplicate IP-addresses on the network. I changed the VB settings from "Static IP Address" to DHCP, and it is now linking to the internet as it should. I was also having trouble with my wireless printer, so I opened the settings on the printer and likewise chose the DHCP (automatic) setting instead of the manual static IP settings and bingo, it started working also. Thanks again for your help. It is possible that the router is blocking internet access for your Vortexbox server since you have statically assigned an IP-address on the server and at the same time made a reservation in the router (to be handed out when the Vortexbox request a DHCP-address, which it doesn't). >From the router perspective the Vortexbox has a duplicate IP_address and hence it is blocked (most routers have protection against duplicate IP-addresses on the network). You could test by either configuring the Vortexbox to use DHCP or to remove the reservation in the router. I would recommend to test DHCP first. 2 Touch, 1 Picoreplayer 4.0.0 on RaspBerry 3B with 7" display LMS latest nightly on Ubuntu 18.04.1 on Intel Core2 Duo E4500 @ 2.20GHz, 2GB All wired BosseJ's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=67378 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109709 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

Do you mean the Vortexbox network settings? I have the Vortexbox network settings set for "Static IP address". I have reserved an IP address in my router for the VB MAC address. The IP address in the VB settings is correct, the subnet mask is the same as the router, the gateway is the same as the router. The 3 DNS addresses in my VB settings are not the same as the 3 Static DNS addresses set in my router. Is that an issue? What are you running 7.9.1 on and what browser are you accessing the server with? I too am running 7.9.1 on Windows Home Server 2011, accessing via Edge on Win10 Pro 1803 and the Plugin tab is working fine in this configuration. Also have 7.9.1 installed on the Win10 Pro 1803 machine and again using Edge the Plugin tab is working fine. Tested accessing both these servers using Chrome and IE and Plugins shows fine in both browsers. I checked server.log and you are 100% correct. Permission issue. Not sure why, and I wasn't the best way to fix it, but I used "chmod 777" and it has fixed the issue.
