I've had cause to look in my syslog and I see that the thousands of
messages I was getting in September are back, e.g.:
Code:
kernel: [204931.004603] "squeezeboxserve" (7010) uses deprecated CP15
Barrier instruction at 0xf691dce0

I think it is benign because that processor does support the
instruction.
Would be a challenge to work out where the problem really lies though.
Easiest is to ignore it.
Next would to re-enable it and verify which process is really is and
then update it and all of the things that it links to ...
Gosh, I think that fixed it. The logs' last entries (identical for kern
and messages) from 30 minutes ago:
Code:
Sep 11 10:32:43 Ham-Gat kernel: [74257.708647] "squeezeboxserve" (7558)
uses deprecated CP15 Barrier instruction at 0xf6a12ce0
Sep 11 10:32:43 Ham-Gat
This might suppress the warning
echo 2 >/proc/sys/abi/cp15_barrier
might need a "sudo " in front.

Yes, the "r" is missing from all lines:
Code:

uses deprecated CP15 Barrier instruction at 0xf6a12ce0

Nice, glad I could help. I don't know what the error is. But there is
missing a "r" in "squeezeboxserver".

The log folder had nearly 0.5Gb in it. The bulk of this being in these
files:
- kern.log
- syslog
- messages
And all three files had thousands of lines dating from May 2019 to the
present which all said something like:
Code:
kernel: [804969.452376] "squeezeboxserve"
As you can see under 'Use%' your 'log' folder is full. I am not an
expert in this but you will probably need to reduce its usage.
Also, the error regardin 'LZMAFILE' seems to relate to a packed file
(that probably needs to be unpacked but cannot due to lack of space).
The perl removal was a supplementary part of the purge. The system said
there were three dependencies (all perl) and to perform an apt- xxx
function to remove them, so I entered it with the intention of clearing
everything that might be causing the problem...
Here is the df output:

Lack of space may be related to a certain part of the disk. Please give

You said you removed `perl` but the error is about `python`. From my
knowledge there can be multiple versions of `python` on one system. I am
not sure if it is related. The error coming up at `purge`
I spoke too soon. I could see my media source folder in Settings but
the webGUI did not show My Music, just Radio and the items below. There
was an option to upgrade at the foot of the GUI, which I did, and since
then I have been back to scratch.
I have deleted the var\lib\squeezebox folder.
Glad it worked out, it was just a shot in the dark.

Bingo.
That sorted it. The purge left the prefs folder and perl but it worked
without me ditching them.
-However-, it indicated that there was a new version of LMS available
and I installed this (logitechmediaserver_7.9.2~1567938514_arm.deb).
Then the webGUI failed again. So I have reversed
Try deleting the LMS and also purge everything. Try

I would not do this! I think it is probably related to the LMS. In the

It seems unrealistic to have no logs for 3 days when I have a cronjob

The journal warning is a bit weird, but I don't know if it can be
related.
I am running 7.9.2 - which version are you running? I found it via GUI,
not sure how to find it with console.
Did you check the logfiles for some hints?

Thanks for the reply.
The server doesn't update by itself. The updates were just my attempt
to fix the problem thinking that perhaps something had changed.
When I went away three weeks ago, all was well. When I started my PC at
home last night there was no webGUI.
The server is a baby chip
Does your LMS update on its own? I don't think mine does. So what would
have changed during the last three weeks? Do you run a firewall on your
server? What kind of server is it?

http://192.168.1.180:9000/.
To fix it I tried updating to the 8th Sept nightly download
of"...arm.deb". No

assertion with -perl -v-).
Support for Perl v5.28 is not

Now I understand. I did not log in as "root". I used "sudo -i" to change
to root. :) I think it is pretty much the same as "sudo su". But thanks!

It's best not to do too much stuff as root with the raspbery pi.
Sudo works fine and you can use sudo su for the odd time you may need
root.
Just advice, as over on the raspberry forums thay discourage using root
all the time.

Thanks a lot, this is very interesting.
I took the time in between to install the nightly 7.9.2 over my 7.9.1

Not sure if these will work on Raspbian bur should do
try "netstat -t -l"
It will show which ports are being "listened" - if LMS is running you
should see port 9000, 909 and 3483
If 9001, 9002 ... is open then something is blocking 9000 for LMS.
The command "lsof -i" will show the
