Actually, the following happens (which is counterintuitive.)
After the "sudo installer ..." command, the Control Panel is indeed
fired up. At this point the *Start Server* button -doesn't work at
all-.
You have to close "System Preferences", and then start the server either
command-line or by reopening the Control Panel. This time, it works. Go
figure ... :)

Not at all. That's the goal :-).

Ok, some of the packages are smaller because newer versions of the
packagers apply improved compression. So you'd potentially get faster
downloads. That's all the impact I you'd see.

I don't know Michael, next time there is an update I'll try running the
code you referenced earlier and see what happens.

I have previously stopped and restarted the LMS via SSH using code that
has been posted in another thread.

But I am a total numpty with a Mac and have to research everything I
want to do. In fact, make that just a total numpty:

problem.

Hmm... just tried this on my local machine: at the end of the
installation it would fire up the control panel. I haven't looked into
this yet. But it might actually be that panel which does fire up the
server.

Have you checked the server.log? Any traces about the failure to start?
What happened when you started it manually? How did you do so? Did you
check Activity Monitor to see whether LMS was running or not?

Perhaps I should have stopped the server, before the "sudo installer
..." ?

That shouldn't be necessary, as it will be the first thing the installer
does.

Once again, thanks a lot Michael for the tremendous work you are doing
for the community of users.

A question concerning OS X, rather than the Linux flavors you are
worried about.

I have LMS server running on a headless Mac Mini. The only way I have to
update LMS is to VNC into the server and click on various buttons and
enter admin password etc.

Can this process be simplified, say via a command line instruction that
could simply be entered by ssh? Preferably with no further user
interaction (entering admin password).

Can we take this further like, say, Dropbox which has carried this to a
extreme: doing updates automatically without any user intervention?
Withous going so far, perhaps with just an "OK" from the Web interface ?

Thank you very much! So the only difference I'm seeing (besides the
newly added files for ARMv7/8 support) is that in the new package images
have got the executable bit set. Go figure... but I doubt this is a

double checking what has changed between two packages.

Will this also be the case, for the Logitech Media Server: Unix Tarball
(i386, x86_64, i386 FreeBSD, ARM EABI, PowerPC).
As i maintain the installation for the QNap, curious to check if it
works.

Yes. All of them. It's an entirely new build system.

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] New build system

2018-02-18 Thread Michael Herger
I'm in the process of migrating the build environment for Logitech Media
Server to a totally new system. The change hopefully will be transparent
to you.

Recent Mac builds already run on this new system, as the old Mac build
host died a few weeks ago. There should be no surprise here.

The Windows build are looking good, too. At least in my quick testing.

The biggest unknown is Linux/tarballs. Not only are there so many I
can't test them all. But the new system is resulting in smaller
binaries, in particular the .deb hosts. From what I understand dpkg is
using more efficient compression in recent revisions. I certainly hope
this is the reason for the smaller package size...

Therefore: please give the latest builds a try and let me know of any
issue you're seeing. I haven't fully migrated yet (still waiting for the
actual build host...). But as the old system gave up its ghost today,
I'll be running the build VMs from my dev machine for now. There's no
going back...

Keep fingers crossed and let me know about any issues. Thanks!
