Ok thanks, that definitely got things farther along. Now I get:
user at dilbert:~/freenet$ java -version
java version "1.5.0_07"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_07-b03)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_07-b03, mixed mode, sharing)

Ok, I think my ISP changed my IP address recently or something,
because my freenet speed suddenly went to hell...and it's not much of
a problem, because my IP only changes once every few months, so I
don't really need to get a redirect or anything. I'm just wondering
though, if I set up another nod

Is the Sun JVM on your path ahead of the GNU free jvm or whatever

Java 1.6 beta 2 appears to cause a variety of errors which don't happen
with stable JVMs: corrupt CHKs possibly, NullPointerExceptions in java
code and database code. Please avoid it.
