SeaMonkey 2.49.1 on Windows not finding the 2.49.2 update

2018-02-17 Thread Adrian Kalla

Hi everyone,

it seems like SeaMonkey 2.49.1 on Windows is not finding the new update.

My configuration:

SeaMonkey version: 2.49.1 (32bit)
SeaMonkey locale: pl
Windows version: 10 (64bit)

Updating from older SeaMonkey versions, like 2.46, to the current one is
expected not to work, it should work from 2.49.1 on, shouldn't it?

Best,
Adrian

With 'under "View"' I meant the fact where you can find the language
setting - and not the place where you can find the place to open the
preferences...
As I use the Polish version of SeaMonkey on a daily basis I
misremembered how the section is named in en-US and thought it was
"View" instead of "Appearance"...

You have to choose the locale first in the preferences (under "View")
and then restart SeaMonkey. Just installing a language pack does not
switch the language.

To be honest: as no one reported similar problems, it is very likely
that you either have incompatible addons installed (tried safe mode with
all addons disabled?) or something in your profile is broken (tried
temporarily a new profile?).

Unofficial SeaMonkey L10n builds for Mac - now available

2016-12-05 Thread Adrian Kalla
First time in over five years that I did build something for Mac, so I
wouldn't be surprised if there was trouble hidden somewhere - so backup
your important stuff before even trying out the following:

https://l10n.mozilla-community.org/~akalla/unofficial/seamonkey/nightly/latest-comm-release-mac64/

Attention: As with the current Firefox version, this will not work on
OSX 10.8 and older!

I'd recommend to never ever put links to that site anywhere. For many
reasons:
1st, because they just take my builds and make it appear like this were
releases (the small text "Unofficial Nightly" is not enough for most
people to understand, what that build really is)
2nd, because that site looks like it could start serving malware any
moment (this site looks all but serious for me) - and there is
absolutely nothing I can do to prevent this
3rd, when the people get the link to
https://l10n.mozilla-community.org/~akalla/unofficial/seamonkey/nightly/
instead, they also get the opportunity to download the localized
versions that are not provided by m64.info

To have language packs as well as completely localized versions building
I need to apply a few patches & workarounds & hacks - as this not
working out of the box, unfortunately.

What I still don't get is, that exactly the same patches & workarounds &
hacks seem not work for ewong for producing the official builds...

Nope. "default update channel" means "no update channel". Looks like
that build was neither an official one nor did it come from my
unofficial repository - as those usually have the proper update channel set.

As of yesterday, this should not happen on any branch anymore, as I have
ported my update-server-fix from the release branch to all the other
branches. So please check if this behavior still really happens, as this
would be unexpected.

The Update NoOp saw was just yet another unofficial "nightly" from the
"release" branch - as they don't change version numbers (to e.g. 2.46.1)
as long as the official version number in that branch was not changed.

I hope I've fixed it now for the RELEASE branch. Please check, if the

It will likely be as always: GTK2-bugs won't be fixed anymore and with
time GTK2-Firefox/Thunderbird/SeaMonkey will not work properly or even
not build. It will just happen. And some time after that, the build
switch for GTK2 will be removed.

GTK2 is a dead horse. GTK2 with Gecko is even more dead. I wouldn't
waste any time to let it keep breathing. Just choose a decent GTK3-theme
and all your problems will vanish.

Afaics, disabling GTK3 on mozilla-beta automatically disabled it for us

No, that's not it. The update-certificate of SeaMonkey 2.33.1 and older
got outdated on Sept., 11th and hence that weird message.
You have to manually install SeaMonkey 2.35 or newer to have working

Not exactly:
-ff they are not 64 bit, they simply can't work.
-even if the plugins are 64 bit, only Flash is whitelisted, so not being
ignored -> the rest is considered meaningless and supposed to die

This seems to be another step in unsupporting NPAPI plugins, which,

I think it is unlikely you would loose perceived performance when
switching to 64 bit. But of course you would also not gain any.
On the other hand, your system would be compatible with all 32 and 64
bit applications.

You are right. There are four reasons why I needed to abandon 32 bit
Linux builds:
1. My CentOS 6 32bit virtual machine did get corrupted, and as I found
out, I had no backup of it.
2. My builds were taking too much space on the L10n server.
3. I needed CPU and RAM resources for Windows builds.
4. And the ultimate reason is Mozilla's switch to GTK3: there is no GTK3
for CentOS6 available (Mozilla seems to have produced own packages, but
afaics, they can't be found anywhere publicly - which is BTW a really
big shame, since there is now also no way to build an exact one-to-one
build to check, if Mozilla did have to include something in their builds
because of a National Security Letter...).
And there is no 32 bit version of RHEL7/CentOS7, which needs to be used
for SM 2.39+ builds (and my cross compile tries failed, and I have no
more time to invest into this issue).

-> 32 bit is dead. Long live 64 bit.

 Hello!

I've been using these unofficial binaries for quite some time now, and I
am extremely grateful for the good works of Adrian Kalla.

Good to know that someone else besides me is using them ;)

But recently I have noticed a sharp drop in the number of localized
versions and language packs (I think only something like half a dozen
 are currently available) ...

Is there any chance that all official localizations can go back to be
 compiled?

The build machines do build and upload all locales that do actually build
correctly. I've also noticed the drop in the number of build locales that
occured some time ago. The drop was caused by string changes in ChatZilla, e.g.
this are the changes needed for pt-PT (copied from the build log):

Missing and/or obsolete strings in ChatZilla result in a build process failure
(this is different to missing and obsolete strings in SeaMonkey itself, where
during the build process they get replaced by English strings; nonetheless,
this is still better than in the case of Lightning: that one gets simply build
with missing strings, which usually results in a broken build :/ ).

When the pt-PT localizer updates the missing and obsolete ChatZilla strings, a
new pt-PT build should automatically appear within 24h :)

Best,
Adrian

 Adrian,

Can you build a few using gstreamer1 (--enable-gstreamer=1.0) instead of
 gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg?
 https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=806917
  (support GStreamer 1.0)

Since I use CentOS 6 (afaik the platform Mozilla uses to build Fx and
the platform official Sm will use), which does not have gstreamer 1.0
available, this won't be possible unfortunately.

If it is about exporting/syncing it to Firefox on Android: just set up
SeaMonkey Sync on SeaMonkey - and set up the Legacy-Mozilla-Sync on
Android (called Firefox Sync (deprecated). It works for me that way -
including the send tab feature :)

Using it works with the current SeaMonkey as well as Firefox for Android
(including nightlies). It may be not possible to set up it on the
current Android Firefox - then it may be necessarily to temporarily
downgrade Firefox (just to set it up) (iirc, Fx 25 should work:
https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/mobile/releases ).

SeaMonkey Linux unofficial-nightlies (including L10n)

2014-06-12 Thread Adrian Kalla
Some time ago I did set up a build bot that builds (unofficial)
SeaMonkey Linux nightlies every night. This are 32 and 64 bit builds
with enabled GStreamer support and in all supported locales:
http://l10n.mozilla-community.org/~akalla/unofficial/seamonkey/nightly/

Important: auto-update is not working, yet. So to update, you need to
manually download a new build.

 Again:
I have Seamonkey and Firefox installed, both Seamonkey and Firefox are

 BetterPrivacy deletes

for both SM and FF, and only Seamonkey is rebuilding the Flash path and
file. Which I have to delete for SM using a file manager.

Though, I am quite sure this is a *severe security problem* with SeaMonkey.

I'd be quite surprised, if it was. Try to uninstall *any* extension,
that may try to mess with Flash (alternatively start SeaMonkey in
safe-moge (seamonkey -safe-mode), especially *BetterPrivacy*, as it is
not only maintained anymore - the last version does explicitly even not
support SeaMonkey. Then restart SeaMonkey.

Is there some Seamonkey build service where one can request a build

I would like to get a Windows version 2.20 Dutch language with patch

stuff required for building. I would think the system that builds
the daily snapshot would be able to build such a thing when it can
 be directed to do so.

Not sure if the Thunderbird try-server could be used for this, as
Thunderbird is also on comm-{branch}:

Besides: your question is more appropriate for mozilla.dev.apps.seamonkey ;)
