Testers for Thunderbird 3.0 RC wanted
Hi Thunderbird, SeaMonkey, Lightning users We are one and a half weeks away, if the developers stay on schedule, before we get builds for the first RC. Like I did for Thunderbird 3.0b4, I'd like to get some people willing to spend from 20 minutes to one hours testing the builds and reporting it in Litmus. For the last round of testing we ended up with 10/12 volunteers signing up and almost all of them showing and doing tests. I'd like to thank them publicly because without them we wouldn't have felt sure that our build was good. Since then we had the upgrade from earlier version test day which found a few bugs. The next round is testing RC1 - which if quality is there , might become the final Thunderbird 3.0 build. To make sure That we are going to test it as much as can be, this time instead of having a BFT we'll test using FFT. This doubles the numbers of tests that need to be run in order to get 100% coverage. This also mean that getting more people on board will seriously help reduce the time needed to complete the tests. Last time I forgot to ask what people were interested in, so this time to sign up you'll need to send me an email, with following information : * What kind of account you have access to (POP, Imap, SSL, RSS, NNTP) * What kind of OS you want to test on (Linux, Windows Vista, Windows XP, Mac OS (version)/Intel/PPC,OpenSolaris x86, Solaris /Sparc) * What would you have interest in testing (if there are thing you don't want/ can't test let me know too) You will also need to have a account on Litmus and an account on Bugzilla. With that I'll build a list of things that I would like you to test and will send you a personal email when the starting effort starts with all the needed information. Thunderbird 3.0b4 testing
Users of Thunderbird and related products (Calendar, Seamonkey ...) We are on the verge of having builds that will become Thunderbird 3.0b4. Before we can release it to a wider audience we need these builds to be tested by some users. As usual we are going to use litmus. This time to make sure that we get as much coverage as possible I would like people to sign up for the effort. This means giving this week one hour of your time to test builds of thunderbird 3.0b4. The idea is that I will tell you what areas you'll need to test. You'll get a very focused test area, and only need to spend an hour. Thunderbird gets better coverage and ends up being of higher quality because it's more widely tested. *If you want to participate in this effort please send me a email asap with your OS of choice for testing and and whether you are a POP, IMAP, or RSS user. *If you want to feel free, and not have someone telling you what to test - please still join our testing effort :-) I will make another announcement here when the builds are ready and the tests can be run. *For those who wish to opt-in the effort I'll send an individual email with instructions. In the meanwhile, if you don't have an account on litmus.mozilla.org, consider creating one.If you don't have an account on bugzilla.mozilla.org, please create one so you can report bugs there. Testing Thunderbird 3.0b3 starting this Thursday July 9th 2009
To make sure that Thunderbird 3.0 b3 ships with the highest quality. To make sure that nightly users did not make any important regressions, the Quality assurance team of Thunderbird is organizing a Full Functional Test of the builds that will become beta 3 itself. We will use Litmus[1] and bugzilla to track the testing. Litmus will be used to know what to test and how as it contains our testcase database. Results will be stored in both Litmus and Bugzilla. When a test fails please make sure to : 1) file a bug in bugzilla 2)mark the bugs blocking bug 502621 [3] which is our tracking bug for this testing effort. 3)reference that bug in litmus - when submitting results I Read the litmus documentation II download the builds from [5] III point your browser to the test-run for Thunderbird 3.0 b3 [2], log in i chose an area you would like to test ii execute a test - report the results iii if the test failed make sure to enter a bug in bugzilla and mark that bug blocking 502621 If you have any question point your browser here [4] and fire your question away - note that it might takes some time before you get the answer. Quality Assurance plans for the upcoming releases leading to Thunderbird 3.0 final
So I should have probably talked about this a bit earlier - but as dates and plan changed quite a bit in the last month it's good that I did not. The QA plan for the upcoming betas and RC is for now as follow : Litmus Full Functionnal testing (FFT) for thunderbird 3.0b3 Litmus Basic Functionnal testing for 3.0b4 Litmus Migration from 2.x to 3.x for 3.0b4 Litmus FFT for RCs Litmus Migration from 2.x to 3.x for Rcs Dates for all of these testing efforts will be announced here and on qualiry.mozilla.org. As you will see if you participate to the Litmus testing[1] effort that we are now breaking down tests platforms per os and platform. This let's us better see what has been tested and where. For those of you who are interested in testing Thunderbird, litmus is a really easy tool to learn. You need an account (that's 10 minutes of your time tops), you'll need a copy of Thunderbird (which copy and versions will be announced on these newsgroups/mailing lists, they will be announced on http://quality.mozilla.org/events and on the thunderbird-testers mailing list.) and then time to spend reading how to test , and enter the results of your testing. On top of these lengthy events we will organize at least one test days - these will be announced on the thunderbird-testers[2] mailing list and probably here too. Autoconfiguration settings
Thunderbird, Seamonkey, Calendar users ... you can help. The auto-configuration feature landed on trunk in the beginning of the week. This means that configuration of email accounts became just easy in Thunderbird. We try to guess and we also use a list of know ISPs with their settings. The bigger this list the better as more people will be able to enjoy secure and easy email setup. What we need is that list to grow so please take the time to check that your Internet service provider is not listed in the list - find the documentation at your ISP and add the missing information. The list and information on how to modify it is available at https://wiki.mozilla.org/MailServerList Thanks in advance for your help.
