I do not save everything
last week i had 1866 emails of which 45 were kept
I did a cleaned up of one a archive folder for 2017
it had one group of users I can save data off profile
end result
468 emails cleaned of to 4005 jpg about 1.45gig in size

I also moved the archive for all years before 2018 if needed it is easy 
to restore

Mozilla folder now 7.02gig 6.68gig in the high profile s is going down

By your description, it looks like that you're one of the people
that saves *everything* that ever touches your mailbox. If you're
routinely compacting, I suggest a couple of things for
consideration:

1) Be more aggressive in discarding message traffic that has no
ongoing value. In my own context, that includes things like "me
too" and "thanks" messages (especially ones that quote complete
content of previous messages).

2) Look at getting attachments out of your mail store -- I think
that that's where the bulk of your accumulation is. One of the
tools that's really useful in both Seamonkey and Thunderbird is the
"detach" function.  It's something of hybrid of "save as" and
"delete".  If you right-click on an attachment and detach, that
allows saving the attachment to somewhere in your file system, and
then deletes the attachment from your mail store.  As long as the
saved attachment isn't moved or deleted, then when you view the
message, the attachment is still visible, as if it was still in
your mail store.


I have found this to be true on many users cluttered mail files, be
it SM, TB, Outlook etc.  Gmail is the worse violator as it saves
duplicates of the emails and attachments in multiple folders.
Deleting attachments in one folder, does not usually update the other
saved message copies in the other Gmail folders.

Sorting the folders by size, you can easily find the culprits of
large attachments, Save/delete the attachments for all your folders,
then compact the folders.  It will delete many GB's if you're a heavy
user of attachments.

Message content can be manipulated using multiple steps.  Select 
message, then Message>Edit As New>Save as Draft.  While in draft

folder, it will have the Edit Draft option.  Move the draft message
to appropriate folder, and the Edit icon goes away.  Saving the file,
will flip it to an .html format on the drive, but not in SM.

Smiles, you are aware of compacting your profile, aren't you?

When you delete an e-mail, it isn't really deleted, just a bit in its 
header information is changed to indicate that it has been 'deleted', 
but it really is still in your 'Inbox'. It is only when you Compact your 
profile (File - > Empty Trash *AND* File -> Compact Folders) that these 
e-mails are actually deleted. Until this time, your Inbox file is just 
getting Bigger and Bigger and 


But, SAFETY FIRST, as your profile is s big, create a copy of your 
profile and store it in a safe place  THEN  File - > Empty Trash 
*AND* File -> Compact Folders and see what you're left with.


If things stuff up, you have your second copy to resurrect. If things 
work right, make a copy of the reduced profile and then delete the copy 
of the original profile.

but the problem did show a shocking revaluation my total profile in app 
folder is 16.5Gig


having 3 profiles my primary profile is 16.2Gig

what is max size for this folder

I am the only one using SeaMonkey and find it easy to use but do laugh

at work I have two profiles one with two accounts and the other with

Going back to the original question, I am having a problem with adding 
an imap account on my laptop (Windows 10, 2.49.3).  I already have 4 
pop accounts and this news server set up there.
The password is being rejected, even though it is correct and all the 
other values agree with the ones the (Thunderbird) instructions specify.

Are there any "issues" with imap at present?

OT Facebook question

A friend's wife was killed in a car accident and her cell phone destroyed.
She never back it up but over 3000 photos were downloaded to her 
Facebook account is there any easy way of downloading them all without 
selecting each photo. she has others that are lost for ever because they 
were never posted

I've, twice now, downloaded SM 2.49.4, but have no idea where it was

Tools->Download Manager does not list these downloads as having 
occurred. Other downloads that I've done before and between the two SM

A Search in the Windows Explorer screen finds nothing.

Javascript is disabled for viewing email messages in SeaMonkey. There's 
no way to enable it. You're going to have to watch the Youtube video in 
the browser.

When I scroll down to watch the Lodge Pan Scraper video it works just 
fine. When I disable JavaScript I see a black box with the error you 
report. I don't get any email.


The first thing for you to check is Edit > Preferences > Advanced > 
Scripts & Plugins. Make sure you have Enable JavaScript for Browser 
checked. That enables JavaScript.


If you are using a script blocker extension you probably need to 
white-list JavaScript for the site

Where is the email from, and what are you doing when you receive it?

The web site should show a notification when it requires Flash.

A news feed in the SeaMonkey Mail window that requires flash should 
also show a notification.

Compare the page in the cache to the page on the network:
[Every time I view the page]

I do recommend you clear the cache now since it seems to be acting up 
(not a technical term).


Edit | Preferences | Privacy & Security | Private Data
Check the options you like and click the button, "Clear now."

I have one website that allows for a download link for software each day 
for years it would show the currant page but now after updating 
SeaMonkey it shows seams to display a  cashed page and I have to reload 
the page to get correct offer


I looked at preference but see no issues can any one advise what the 
problem might be

The first thing I would check:  Is that source only in HTML and are you
set to view message body as Plain Text? Do you know how to switch between
views?

From the menu:  View > Message Body As > [select choice]

will not upgrade because of problems with address book in later versions

my problem is with viewing www.pinterest.com on two profiles

on one I see three large columns on the other I see five columns, same 5 
columns with IE
if I use my other computer on both profiles or use IE I have five 
columns so I think it is a saved setting


were would I find this setting

I am using SeaMonkey 3.5 and cancelled an email during sending

I realized it was going to the wrong person and cancelled it
nothing showed in sent which is correct but I got an out of office 
message from wrong recipient

does this mean it went through or part of it

Yeah, this is really frustrating. Can't copy/paste from "Collected
Addresses" either. The only thing that works is to manually recreate the
entries in the target address book.

Same behavior with SM 2.38b1 (Xubuntu 14.04), tested with safe mode and
creating a new profile: can not drag and drop a contact from one address
book to another address book or to a mailing list.

Revert to SM 2.31.1, works OK

I backup my computer users Dir daily but had a mishap when updating my 
SeaMonkey from 2.26 to 2.9 i only keep two weeks of backup and one from 
2 months this ile has the same structure when used just has less mail


I have lost years of email
but do not see thins in my backups

when i went back to 2.26 i lost my sub-folders in four folders plus the 
sent folder


how are sub-folders stored

i do not understand were i failed on my backup

clicked something then i get an endless number of blank tabs opening

just recreated a new profile going back to2.26

if i use old profile going back to 2001 under a reinstall same issue
happens
when i reinstall to a fresh install of  2.29 and use old profile i get a 
pop up to choose an application to open a link, when message is selected 
default is SeaMonkey or choose new

what file do i delete to stop this when i transfer to new install

Mine show that way for BCC.  If you open up the message you can see the

I've tried several times to duplicate this to no avail.

I'd try:

1.  Safe Mode.  If it doesn't happen it's likely an extension.
2.  New profile.  If it doesn't happen migrate personal settings to the
new profile.
3.  Head to Bugzilla and search.

You're already halfway there.  You just need to create a custom filter
field BCC, using the option at the bottom of the filter field list.
(It is called personaliser in french, don't know what it is called in
english.)
Once that is defined, you just have to select it like any other field.
If you want to select all BCCs, you could select contains @, for example.

Does the plugin check page indicate that your plugins are up to date?

The Firefox (not FireFox) compatibility has nothing to do with it.

I have a new client using XP with service pack 1
to do any work on it I have had to reinstall and update it to service pack 3

the problem we have is she admits to only having a few to a dozen emails

her profile is

the sent, drafts, trash are empty
inbox has 2 emails

I will compact it but is there a way of recovering emails

deleting the msf files does not show any more when it rebuilds the inbox

I have set my homepage to a web page on my d drive when I open SeaMonkey 
it opens to the correct file but if I close the browser window and 
select from a web page from an email close it then reopen it jumps to 
that page as apposed to my homepage

Can anyone recommend a program that does a good job of scanning and
repairing Windows (Vista and Win7) registries, or is having all these
errors a minor problem?

problems with AM-Deadlinks

it works but does not remove selected bookmarks from browser now I am

Not sure which is the document folder, but the default SeaMonkey
profile data is kept at the following locations:

I am looking at moving the profile but will Seamonkey just copy it over

Win7 problems with SeaMonkey for the physically challenged

I have a few upgrade issue I have about 15 clients needing new computers 
as I lost mine in a fire I have a new box and Win 7


trying to set it up using client setup rules for SeaMonkey shows 
signature-0.4.0.4-mod.xpi will not work and I see no easy replacement


the following plan took some clients 3 years to learn as I can not 
charge for tech support I am for a big hit on my time


the following is how we use it

default signature file gives this output
-- client 296 from ham001x2

which identify the client and support client


signature-0.4.0.4-mod.xpi

can add info anywhere above so we set up a few like

good day mom and dad
good day nurse
good day helper

see you today
see you tomorrow
help

  also some use this text layout

hi




see you tomorrow

client would add text between lines


this helps them a lot
any suggestions

Uncheck Block images and other content from remote sources.

You should be aware that by doing this you will be allowing web
beacons (invisible gifs that allow spammers and others to track who
opens their mail) and similar content.

As far as I'm concerned, blocking that stuff is worth the cost of seeing
the notice.

You can also click in the notice to approve remote content from certain
senders without making it a global policy.

have you compacted your inbox?
on one of my profiles I have an inbox at 6235Kb with another folder at 
21649Kb and have no problems


why look at web mail it was intended for when you are away from home you 
should be using pop at home, I did have problems with earthlink but can 
not recall the issue it was too many ISPs back


try compacting then set up filters to move some to other folders set by 
sender subject or date

I my be wrong but the message pane always holds your last message read.
It changes on a new message read only as does the reply button, change 
account and you will still reply to old account message

OK are you using the message filter to send emails to other PC as I see 
it SeaMonkey does not host email.


I do have it running on several machines and I have permission issues 
setting up account profiles on second machine by using filters

I don't know your needs and am just an old Geezer, but for me it would
be easier to have different entries for each email address.
For example John Jones Home, John Jones Office,John Jones factory, John
Jones girlfriend, etc. Then when you hit J SM will show a list and
just pick the one you want. If you want to send the same message to all
the addresses, Put them in a subdirectory or whatever you call it, then
just point to the subdirectory and the email will be sent to all the
addresses. I have that sort of list for my family members.

thanks for your input
I have put three emails in my trash folder 3K in size
empty trash on exit not set and on close it went to 0

But on one account of six in that profile it is
I thought each account was separate or could it be the cause

Also I have always taken compact folder to apply on account selected or 
is it a global action across all accounts in that profile

Trash restore

Good day

over the last few days I have had the wrong emails hit my trash folder
later I get an email warning me of that possibility and I have emptied 
the folder in past versions as long as I do not compact I could recover
but now if I open explorer with out closing SeaMonkey or when it is 
closed trash is at 0Mb


any one know what is wrong with my settings
