Hi: That happened to me a couple of times and like you I was lucky and found
them in the Recycle bin.
I don't know, it happened while I was having problems with WindowEyes so I
have no idea if it is a WindowEyes related thing or not.
It wasn't the OS cleaning up unused icons since one of them was
Disk CleanUp doesn't remove shortcuts from the desktop, but the system
maintenance troubleshooter does.
