RE: Windows 7 and ipconfig command

2015-05-03 Thread Steve Jacobson via Talk
In addition to this, the RIGHT ARROW brings back the previous command one
character at a time, and F3 brings back the entire command. The point is
that there a number of ways one can accidentally put characters on the line
without thinking about it, and then, as you said, typing EXIT results in an
error.

Re: Windows 7 and ipconfig command

2015-05-03 Thread David via Talk
The good news is, that there exists one way of ensuring nothing is on
the command line, prior to your typing the EXIT command. Simply just
press the Escape key, type EXIT, and hit Enter. The Escape key, clears
the commandline, no matter what is on it at the moment.

For different reasons, I find that the Command Prompt Window does not
always close, even with the Exit instruction. The best workaround then,
is that you press Alt-Space, and scroll to Close, or simply just hit C.
This will force the window to be closed.

Should none of this work, you always have the last resort to most
software hang-ups. Pressing Ctrl-Escape, will bring up the task-manager,
and here you can Kill the CMD (or, Command Line Prompt) software.

David

Note the folder should be created first if it doesn't exist.

If you wanted to automate it a little bit, you could create a batch file that

The batch file could look like this.

Ipconfig c:\temp\test.txt
Notepad c:\temp\test.txt

Hi Martha:

Try typing cls without the quotation marks, and then pressing Enter.
That will clear the screen, then type exit and press Enter.

In my experience, just typing exit and then pressing Enter did not
work because there was other text on the line where the cursor was,
therefore, when I pressed Enter, the system did not recognize the
command that I was entering.

I hope that makes sense.

I sometimes have to run cmd and ipconfig commands to get the IP address so

Using WE 8.4 on work machine.
