That's strange. In my case, none of Pegasus, Becky, EMClient,
Mailbird among others will display text quoted in Thunderbird
with clear segments (not merely indented). For me. But they do all handle The
Bat quoted text quite
well.

Yes I do keep registered copies of all those, among others, around. In the
case of Pegasus, it was a voluntary contribution.

Because, you see, I am not a fan of the common expectation that
programmers should be willing to work for free. Even if some are.

I'm not sure how the mechanism works in Thunderbird, but in practice, I find
that Thunderbird quoting only appears correctly in Thunderbird,
in other clients, quoting in a message from Thunderbird is set off only by
tabs. It gets really confusing in long conversations. But a message from
The Bat appears in other clients (including Thunderbird) as it did when being
edited in The Bat. The layers of the conversation are clear.

I like to insert text quoted into paragraphs like I am doing here.
Maybe this old idea is passing away. I like it. The Bat implements
this well, since I can put the cursor any place in the quoted text,
press enter and the quoted text is cleanly split into two pieces. Other
clients have no problem displaying messages prepared this way, but
only The Bat implements the split editing feature well, if at all.

True, but since I had nothing to do with the size of the The Bat executable,
I'm not lazy either.

Yes, I am replying from MS Server 2016 which seems to take about half
of what Win 10 needs.

You must have a lot of open tabs with constant server interaction (for
ads, etc). I use Opera whenever possible, and it usually is these
days. Opera gets hoggish sometimes too, but if I close it, and
reopen, it returns to restrained behavior.

And it doesn't even have embedded large graphics. Wasteful. The Bat does
not take "several" even now.

IDE's and graphics programs take a lot, but I bet you can find room
for modest little The Bat.

Well, enough, I think.Better than Thunderbird for sure, for one
reason Thunderbird has its own proprietary quoting mechanism. In any
case, people send me pics illustrating problems they see, and I find
it useful to include those pics in my reply. That helps because
users often don't know what I need to see, in fact I don't either
until I see it.

In my case, I don't need perfection, but being able to do that much is
a great help. The Bat's build in html is not sufficient though, I
still need to use MS's built in html.

Me neither. But then it's not him being quoted as "It doesn't seem to matter". It does, on larger scale, anyway.

I am using 3.5.  I guess I'm not feeling overly impacted.  12 gb of ram is not especially high end these days.

This may be the source of the mistake. Your computer doesn't seem to be
doing much. And TheBat! is not the only program people run.
In my case, out of my 16GB, Firefox feels free to eat anywhere all the way
to 8, Thunderbird takes several gigs too, on bad days, Eclipse is no fly
weight either.
It's so easy to fill all the available memory with one program "because it looked OK on my machine".

And, once again, thanks Maxim for the high quality tastefully done images.  I bet it took some effort to acquire them.

I'm sure. And I'm sure there are better places for >32MB of temporary graphics.

Unless you understand how that happened.  In this case, the images will be gone when this year's Christmas version is retired.

If the Christmas graphics is what inflated the EXE to twice its size. I, to be honest, didn't even expect that.

Sure, I was too lazy to think about it.  I remember the years of various email client users railing against the
useless creeping incursion of html into email.  Pegasus, Becky, many others.  It seems that Sylpheed is the last holdout
of any significance.  Change marches on, your perception of whether it is progress or not will vary.

You can see the results for yourself: Try to reply to your own (or, rewriten in original HTML reply form to serve as an example, this very) mail in TheBat! How does the qouting look? How are the levels colored, how well will the footer be handled?

I wouldn't accuse Maxim of being lazy. In my case, with TB running, I am using
3.68 gb of ram out of 12. With TB closed
I am using 3.5. I guess I'm not feeling overly impacted. 12 gb of ram is not
especially high end these days.

And, once again, thanks Maxim for the high quality tastefully done images. I
bet it took some effort to acquire them.

Unless you understand how that happened. In this case, the images will be gone
when this year's Christmas version is retired.

Sure, I was too lazy to think about it. I remember the years of various email
client users railing against the
useless creeping incursion of html into email. Pegasus, Becky, many others.
It seems that Sylpheed is the last holdout
of any significance. Change marches on, your perception of whether it is
progress or not will vary.

This is the unfortunate thinking of today. Just multiply that with 20 programs
and you'll see where it gets you in terms of # uselessly wasted RAM.
Similar with Android these days: every meaningless "App" eats its 60 MB of
memory whether it's doing anything or not, totalling to 100% memory usage
and laggy phone. Just because "memory is cheap" and other lazy programmer
thinking.

The days of chasing every kilobyte are gone, but just doubling the program
between minor versions sound strange to me too.

It doesn't seem to matter, unless you are short of ram. The days of super

Hello Maxim,

I have not commented about the Splash screen because, here, it would
remain on-screen for 30-45 seconds, which I attributed to the amount
of processes running on the machine. However, after this change to
8.6.0.21 it is well behaved, staying on-screen for roughly 2 seconds.

Up and running. No difference in splash screen found. On startup it is
shown a few seconds - like in versions before.

Now, the splash screen, from which before for ca. 1/10 of a second only
the borders were visible, is now visible completely for ca. 1 second.
So, that's OK for me. :-)
