TB! 2.12.00 : Default addressbook problem
Greetings TBUDLers, I have TB! set up with two Account Groups, one for me, one for my wife, with separate shortcuts to the two groups using the command-line parameter /FOCUSU=, and in both Groups' Account Properties the default addressbook is set to default. Under 2.11.02 (and before), I see just my folders and just my addressbook, and my wife sees just her folders and just her addressbook, plus there are some common folders we both see. I just tried the upgrade to 2.12.00 and can't get this behaviour. The folder view works as before, but if I open my addressbook in my Group, it shows up also in my wife's group, and vice versa. Switched back to 2.11.2 and everything works as before. Can anyone reproduce this and tell me whether 1. It's a new feature (unwelcome here!) 2. Something's broken 3. I need to do something different. TIA -- Andrew Cauthery Using The Bat! v2.11.02 on Windows 98 4.10 Build A Current version is 2.12.00 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Re: cleaning up replies
Hello! MLW I have installed and am using the clean subject macro from MLW silverstones. I am looking for something that will look at all the MLW quotes text and find yahoo ads at the bottom, nod32 taglines, etc. %SmartQuotes macro will be available in MyMacros 1.11 release in nearest future. It's for cutting greetings and goodbyes with signatures, removing too deep quotes, rearranging empty lines in quotation and some more neat things that you often do yourself :) . Re: MyGate Bat! Content Type Header
Hello, John! JP What exactly is a content type header? This is a feature for non-English newsgroups. It was made for Russian fido7, where content-type header is not present in messages. MyGate checks if message already has content-type set, and if not -- then inserts it with default value, so Bat can display message with correct encoding. If you don't need it (you probably don't if you ask what's that ;), just leave it empty. The Bat!'s lost its subfolders.
Hello, This morning, I had a problem, and my Windows 2000 system had to be hard-rebooted. The Bat! had been running previously, but was not running when this occurred. As the computer restarted, I saw it mentioning that one of the account.* files from The Bat!'s mail directory -- where it stores messages -- was corrupted and would be truncated. Re: backup strategy
GS By doing this I can have everything up in running from scratch in less GS than an hour. My only problem is that I will be upgrading to WinXP GS shortly. I have worked on NT systems at work, but never used at home, so GS I am not sure this strategy will work when the new system arrives. It sounds like you have a very similar strategy to me about backing up. Using a 2nd hard disk with Ghost (from http://www.symantec.com) is an ideal way of grabbing everything. I use command line parameters to drive Ghost which means I can auto-reboot the PC once it is complete, rather than sitting having to watch the paint dry. One thing you need to be aware of with XP is that you have to use Ghost 2002. Earlier versions won't touch the partitions, or at least when I tried it with Ghost 2001 they wouldn't - Microsoft appear to have munged the hard disk format to confuse things. Ghost 2002 is a PITA because you start having to enter your serial number when you restore images. That is because the Ghost license is supposed to be for a single PC only. Which is why I use Ghost 2001 for all my systems, and Ghost 2002 just for the one XP system. There are other (much cheaper) alternatives to Ghost. You might try Drive Backup from http://www.paragon-gmbh.com/n_frame.htm - those guys have some other very useful utilities which I highly recommend. 1.53t Anomalies in 1.60k
Hello. I recently upgraded from 1.53t to 1.60k. Some of the anomalies that I reported for version 1.53t in January ( http://www.mail-archive.com/tbudl@thebat.dutaint.com/msg33264.html ) have been fixed. Others have changed behavior or remain unchanged; they are listed below approximately in the order they were originally presented. 1. Nicked nicknames (unchanged) If the letters in a nickname are identical to the initial letters of the e-mail address, the nickname will not autocomplete correctly. It will autocomplete to the e-mail address only, omitting the display name. 2. Hidden addresses... not (unchanged) Addresses in AB groups that have the option Hide items if not explicitly selected checked will still be displayed when the Address Picker icon to the right of the To: field in the message editor is pressed. 3. Editable header fields... not? (unchanged) The message editor's editable header fields are not displayed as editable. Editable fields are typically displayed differently from non-editable fields. TB! does not distinguish between the two, which is extremely confusing and very easy to change. 4. Two many deleted messages or totalled totals (changed behavior) Set up TB! to save attachments in a separate directory. Receive a message with an attachment into a folder. Note the number of messages in the folder. Double-click to view the message just received. Delete the attachment in the viewer, then delete the message by clicking on the viewer trash can icon. The message title will remain displayed in the folder's right pane and the message will still show an attached file, but the folder shows 1 less message in the left pane's total. Click on another message in the same folder, then click on the original message. The attached file icon will disappear. Delete the message by clicking on the trash can icon. The total number of messages in the folder will decrement by one, but the total is now one less than the number of messages left in the folder. Click in another folder, then click back in the original folder. The deleted message has disappeared from view. The total number of messages increments by one and is now correct. The attached file has not been deleted from the attached file directory. Two copies of the message body will be found in the Trash folder. 5. Two mailtos (changed behavior) TB! adds the command string: HKCR\mailto\shell\open\command\D:\Internet\The Bat!\thebat.exe %1 when TB! is set to be the default mail client. On my system, this results in a message window and an error message if TB! is not running and a mailto link is clicked. Only a single message window is created if TB! is already running. I don't think the %1 parameter is needed. A better command string might be: HKCR\mailto\shell\open\command path\thebat.exe /nologo This works correctly on my system with mailto links whether or not TB! is running. 6. Save message, lose data (unchanged) Open a message and click on Save as... and select a filename.ext that exists already. There will be two successive dialog boxes. The first will ask if the message should be overwritten. The default is YES, which destroys data. If NO is selected, the second dialog box will ask if the message should be appended. The default here is YES. Only a single dialog box is necessary: The file filename.ext already exists. Do you want to append or overwrite this file? Append (default) Overwrite Cancel. The 1.60 Readme file lists the following fix: - 'Save message as' bug when a file with the same name already exists. Apparently, this fix does NOT refer to the anomaly reported here. 7. Underspec of the overlap (unchanged) When scrolled vertically with the space key, messages that display with a *horizontal* scroll-bar will not have any vertical overlap. A single line of overlap helps retain context while reading. 8. Favourites list unfavoured BCC (changed behavior) If both the Account New message template _and_ the AB entry New message template contain BCC macros and a new message is created using the Favourites drop-down list, the AB BCC macro is ignored. If a new message is created by pressing on the Create a new message icon, the Account New message BCC macro will be used instead of the AB entry BCC macro. ** FIRST REPORT ** 9. Unfiltered filters (unchanged) Strings entered manually into the String field of a mail filter are appropriately filtered for non-alphanumeric characters. However, strings entered via a paste from the clipboard allow carriage returns, which are ignored when the filter is used. All comments are welcome. regards, Andy P.S.: I'm on the digest in this forum. If you want me to respond right away, put my e-mail address on CC or BCC. My replies won't thread properly in TB!, but they thread on the web. I apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause. Thanks for the advise Jonathan I was just concerned that if it tried to call the outlook.exe file then I'd be stuffed :-) The email is already deleted off my mail server - the only reason I was concerned is that the attachment when viewed on the mail server seemed to be rather larger than just a file saying this email had a virus but seemed to be the original size (or thereabouts) of the infected payload. I haven't had a chance to look at the headers yet as I was reluctant to do too much with this possible payload - most of my friends have easily identifiable isps too! I'll have a play tonight.I could always ghost my pc, unplug my modem and try but that sounds like a bit too much of an effort! Re: 1.60c and importing mail from Netscape 6.2.1
Ok but my understanding was that this was a _feature_ of TB. The import wizard does indicate Netscape 6.x as being supported. So, the question remains: is there an official word on this issue? The product is of no interest to me without a working import - not on a trial basis and certainly not for purchase. Peter Palmreuther wrote: Does this in any manner help and work? No. There is nothing except in the program directory. As Marck already mentioned: maybe file type associations you told The Bat! to fetch for itself, but files are _exclusively_ stored in installation directory. No associations were changed so it is a relief to know that I don't have to do any digging to get rid of The Bat. BTW: It would be great if your Mozilla could be told to use a so called signature delimiter '-- ' (dashdashspaceenter and if you could trim your quotes to the necessary to make it easier to read and follow you mails. Whatever. It sounds to me like it is another form of advertising that accompanies the large number of spam messages that I receive daily No. vcard is basically a format allowing for data to be exchanged between programs that are vcard aware. For example, a contact manager and an e-mail client. for an overview of vcard go here: http://www.imc.org/pdi/vcardoverview.html vCard automates the exchange of personal information typically found on a traditional business card. vCard is used in applications such as Internet mail, voice mail, Web browsers, telephony applications, call centers, video conferencing, PIMs (Personal Information Managers), PDAs (Personal Data Assistants), pagers, fax, office equipment, and smart cards. vCard information goes way beyond simple text, and includes elements like pictures, company logos, live Web addresses, and so on. Mandara (v1.53d) Yes, thanks, I had thought of that but the only version that I could find was 1.53 and it doesn't import from Netscape 6.2.1 - at least not through the wizard and I'm not looking to jump through hoops here.
