Upgrade Differences
Hi All, I just found on version 5.8.8 that I couldn't click on links and have them open in browser as usual. So I upgraded The Bat! but now can't get my original skin/color scheme. I see no choice of skins and don't like this glaring white. But the links work! Any ideas? Also, there is a smiley face at the beginning of this message that I would rather not have there. What's that about? Thanks for any advice! In The Bat!, Tools-Backup. It's a guided procedure. I keep this in Dropbox and also Google Drive. I also went from Windows 7 to 8 (upgraded to 8.1). I recently had sent to me a couple of emails each of which contained about 15MB worth of attachments. TB choked and wouldn't download any of the emails from the server because of this. I had to go to my ISPs server and manually download each attachment so that I could delete those two emails from the server. Once that was done TB was able to fetch the remaining emails. I checked settings and properties everywhere I could find but saw nothing pertaining to any limit on email size. I have never noticed a size limit; however, I use IMAP. I had a problem some time ago with emails that would not delete - they always came back to haunt me. I can't remember exactly, but here is what I do remember about getting rid of them. First I went to Manage IMAP folders and found the size of the recurring emails. Then I closed The Bat! and went to User/AppData/Roaming/TheBat!/IMAP for the particular account. I experimentally deleted what I thought was the email, keeping it in the Recycle Bin until I knew everything was okay. In my case, it was not a bunch of emails, so it may be harder or easier for you. So, in your opinion, can I safely remove the items associated with the registry? (I really do not understand how to mess with the registry.) One of the things I've noticed in The Bat! is that accessing AOL mail gives a message of an invalid certificate, but I've always ignored the message. However, for the first time yesterday, I received a clearly virus-laden (via a link) email which claimed to be sent from my AOL account to two other unrelated email addresses that I own and one other email address of a correspondent of mine. I visited AOL mail online and found that the email had been sent from my account, so I changed my password at AOL and scanned both of my computers. I had no invaders, so I think it is either a hacking of my AOL account or something related to Facebook, since I used the AOL address there. I changed that and will be closely monitoring the mail account.Malwarebytes free software has solved any invader-related issues I've had from time to time over the years, and I download it upon getting a new computer so that I am prepared.
