Not necessarily, what you really got to do, is deleting the files
where ZA stores it's data about what program is allowed to connect and
which isn't.
They can only be removed when ZA has been shut down. Restarting ZA
will means that ZA has no data left, so it'll start anew asking about
every program whether it can connect or what.

DW Any suggestions?

Does the problem persist when TB thinks your internet connection is
via a network?
Options = Network Administration = Check 'Local Area Network or
 manual connection'
Now connect via your browser and let TB send and receive mail.

How big is your messagebase? When did you compress your folders for
the last time? Should not influence this, but...

DW I think it did. It's the same problem again, ZAP. Now that you've

DW blocked. I'll ask on the newsgroup.

I doubt you'll get any joy there. Many are affected in this way when
using TB! and this usually heralds other problems with your internet
connection occurring. It'll likely be insidious and you'll be unlikely
to blame ZAP since a reboot will fix things.

My advice would be to find another firewall since there are so many
out there. Sygate's Personal Firewall is fine, as well as Tiny
Personal Firewall. Both are free for personal use.

Re: Have to shut down after connecting to reconnect

2001-11-12 Thread Sam

Hi Doug,

Are you saying that you have The_Bat set to check mail at regular
internals? I also have ZoneAlarmPro and it has settings to allow a
given program to bypass the lock but it does not work; not with the
Bat or any other program. It also has a feature which automatically
locks the computer when the Screen Save activates. Supposedly, you
can disable the lock when the screen saver activates, but this also
does not work; still locks out programs even when the feature is
disabled. Only way I solved the problem was to disable the automatic
check in the Bat and check mail manually.

Your problem is likely ZoneAlarm, not the_Bat.

I hear this continually, but it still wonders me. I'm using ZA (the
free version, not the pro) for ages and never had any problems with
it. Not with TB, not with any other Internet program.

I admit that TB connects only to my server and not with my ISP, but if
ZA was really bad my mail server (running on the same pc as TB) should
have problems too.

The thing is that it doesn't seem to affect everyone. I don't know
what it is that triggers the incompatibility, but it's definitely
there on many systems and there's no apparent cure for it. All the
individuals that I know to have experienced the same problems ended up
moving to another firewall.

Win2k systems, especially post SP1, seem to be particularly prone to
this. The more severe problems where the internet connection is
completely blocked tends to occur after long uptimes. One thing's for
sure, it caused me a lot of frustration searching for the culprit and
my system never found peace until I *uninstalled* ZAP. Though the TB!
connection problems stopped, I still had internet connectivity
problems even when I didn't run it. I haven't had any such problems
since uninstalling ZAP and the problems abruptly ceased after getting
rid of it.

I truly can recommend TINY Personal Firewall. It's totally free and
there is a Usergroup at Yahoo where there are a lot of clever people
who like to help you. If you need any address please let me know
through this List or write me a PM.
