Re: [Therion] Karst3D database, a quick overview.

2019-09-03 Thread Markus Boldt
Dear Phil, in fact it is a good Idea and a great work. But...

But there are some evident problems, if I would give you "my" data from "our"
caves - for example. There are often at some projects a lot of surveyors over
the years. So I have to ask them all. In germany the data are archieved until
now in so called "Kataster". Every karst region has one. There is a person
(mostly some) who has the confidence of all cavers in the particular region.
There is an agreement that I am (or my collegues) not allowed to give that data
to an public institution so that these data will be very public in the future.
Only cavers (or caverclubs) who are working for the "Kataster" have an access
to these data. And additionally to that there are some Clubs in germany who do
there data to the Kataster but it is not really seeable for other users
(Keyword: Competition) . You write that is also possible at your website but
only maximum 5 years.

Our Kataster is working with "Spelix" since two years now. This program is made
from a caver from austria. All the possibilities I have seen until now in your
release and more are implemented in that program. But not reachable for the
public.

The risk of your site is that everyone will have informations from the caves
and so the numbers of visits to the caves will increase, I think.

And please there are often "so called" cavers (often from clubs also) who are
taking so such informations, to go in caves during holidays without having
contact to the cavers from that region.

That is not what we want for our caves because it is an extremely sensitive
environment.

This comment is from me personnel. Others in Germany may have another opinion.

Please take it only as an information and be not angry about that (do a look to
my first sentence).

best regards

Markus

Hi guys,

We’ve just launched a database to archive cave survey data. Our database relies
a lot on Therion, and I’d like to thank the developers for their great job! I’d
like to do the same for the developer of Cave View !

This is a big beta release and we hope to make it better with more option in
the future (DEM, statistical analysis of the karst network, etc.):
https://data.oreme.org/observation/karst3d

I’d be happy to have your feedback, specially if you decide to upload some
data. We’ve chosen to have the opportunity of an embargo time before releasing
the data, you can choose between 0 and 5 years, but since it is a public
university we have to make the data archived public a some point. But the 3D
view will be online soon after you upload the data.

Here is a short tutorial on how to visualize several caves at the same time.

Looking forward to have your feedback.

Hi Markus

Don't worry, your English is fine :)

Not sure why you would want to remove the useful splays, and replace them with
limited LRUDs, but I assume you have a reason.

> is there a possibility to calculate LRUD-Data from splays? It would be
> nice, if you have not measured LRUD at the point in the cave, but only

If you are starting with (simple) Survex files or PocketTopo data, Cave
Converter can create LRUD data, and turn it into "passage" blocks (which are
basically just LRUD data). It does it by taking the largest splay that appears
to be perpendicular-ish to the passage, and works out its perpendicular size.

However, it is only an approximation, and it is not perfect. It also only
understands simple Survex files or PocketTopo data - it cannot cope with
Therion files. It cannot cope with data containing "data nosurvey", so you must
use only the default "data normal". It also removes anything that it doesn't
understand, so you lose your fixes and entrances.

But maybe it is useful enough for your needs:
http://wscc.darkgem.com/caveconverter/

Hope this helps,

OK, thanks, that's good to know. I'll pass it on to the user in question
(who may or may not have got round to joining this list already).

But if someone has done a survey like that (or maybe a whole
expeditions-worth) then they would still like a reasonably easy way to
convert it/them back to manageable lines. So I think the original question
still stands: can we have a way to select more than one line at a time for
such processing in xtherion. Or perhaps decide that the 'fine' setting in
topodroid is no practical use, or should at least be advised against. What
is the default setting for line segment density?

You might find the attached quick reference sheet helpful.

Regarding adjustment of measurements in Therion, if you happen to have
uncorrected disto measurements, you can use the calibrate statement to amend
all measurements in a particular survey with a single short line.

calibrate [] ▷ set the instrument
calibration. The measured value is calculated using the following formula:
measured value = (read value - zero error) × scale. The supported quantities
are the same as sd. ie length, tape, bearing, compass, gradient, clino,
counter, depth, x, y, z, position, easting, dx, northing, dy, altitude, dz

Hi all,

How to 'fix' the survey station point (to morph the cave plan) having
only 2D coordinates?

Using the radiolocation we get (with quite good accuracy) the station
point position which is about 150m beyond the estimated location we
get from surveying. So now I wanted to use this position to make a
correction to the main polygon. But the 'fix' command need a 3D coords
so how should I do that (no, there is no point to measure the depth by
radiolocation by some reasons).

Thanks in an advice,

Hi Markus

Yes, but with limitations.

If you export map -f pdf, then you can indirectly influence the page size by
adjusting the scale and where you place the header. Not as precise as you
are wanting.

If you export atlas -f pdf, then you can precisely specify the page size, as
you have been attempting. The cave is then distributed across as many pages
as is required. Disadvantages are that you cannot place headers and other
objects on the pages.

Have a look https://therion.speleo.sk/wiki/bds where there is some
information.

"A map output (not to be confused with a map object) is contained on a
single 'page' and the size of the page is automatically made big enough to
fit the cave by the software. A number of formats are supported but pdf
seems to be the most comprehensive. Pdf maps can include graphics such as
photos, logos, other pdf files or previously created cave maps.

An atlas output cuts the cave up to fit a user defined 'paper size' and adds
a navigation pane. Hyperlinks in the navigation pane and at the page edges
facilitate rapid navigation. If multiple maps are selected in the thconfig
file, then chapters are automatically created separating the maps. These may
be different caves or different levels in the cave - with hyperlinks to
navigate between different levels. Only pdf format is supported. Inserted
graphic images are NOT supported."

Also https://therion.speleo.sk/wiki/templates#atlas_specific which contains
some useful atlas paper size layouts.

And now the answer on your second mail:

Ok, so it looks like it is/was a selfmade problem not a problem coming from
Therion with the drawing of "my" areas.

But I don`t understand the problem anyway. Because I give Therion some data
in the th-file and the drawing in the th2-file.

There are one fixed point (1.0) and to legs to wb1.1 and wb1.2. The other
fixed points (GPS.) are only fixed points. Now, when I draw the point wb1.1
as a corner from an area and the same with point wb1.2. I would think that
it is now a simple compiling for Therion. But it looks like it is not. And
that`s what I don`t understand.

[Therion] needed double shot - exclude from cave length

2018-06-11 Thread Markus Boldt via Therion
Hello,

if I have a leg where I need to separate shots (from the one point I don`t
reach a continuative part) and I want to exclude the one from the
calculation of the cave-length. What have I to write in my .th-File in the
data-lines to exclude it from the calculation of the length but not from the
centerline?

I think it is simple, but I have found no idea in the wiki.

Regards

Markus

if I do a look on your file with an simple editor (Windows), then it looks very

And I think that is the problem in generally. Your file is not really readable

This file looks like it is coming from Topodroid without compiling it to

Hi,

I trying to work in a topo I make recently. One of the sketches got way bigger
than it should and is presenting errors like:

can't read "xth(me,cmds,5,18,x)": no such element in array

I already reduced the file to something really small and I still get these
errors most of the times I try to open it.

Any ideas on what could be the cause?

I send attached both a small version of the sketch that presents the error and
the complete log of the error.

Markus, instead of going to the trouble of creating complex code to include

Hi

I have a question about "cavedepth" and propbably need some help as I can't
figure out the problem.

My complete survey is about underwater cave passages.
Therfore I have an option inside every survey and centerline which is
"calibrate depth 0 -1".
All survey are with "data diving station depth left right up down newline
tape compass".
And every depth is with positive numbers like 5.3 then which means -5.3m of
waterdepth.
Lowest number all over all surveys is 0.0.
Biggest number is 24.1.

Every scrap contains all the survey stations within this part of the cave as
a "point station".
So in the end I have every surveyed station inside the scraps.

When I print the map as a pdf file (with all the scraps) I don't get the
right number for Depth.
With numbers as above I would expect a cave depth of 24m but I get 22m.

Of course I can do an override with "\cavedepth{24\thinspace{}m}".
But this is not what I want to.

So can anyone explain please why I don't get the correct number for
cavedepth in the map header?
Thanks!

cheers,
Torsten

Current Versions are:

Survex: Aven 1.2.26

OS: (as red from Aven) Windows 7 (build 7601, Service Pack 1), 64-bit edition

wxWidgets 3.0.2

I have no idea on all that stuff… As far as possible I`am only a user… and

I hope there is someone with an Idea.

Or possibly you have incompatible versions of Therion and Survex installed?
Make sure you have a recent Survex version for the current Therion, or Survex
is called by Therion to produce a file which Therion is not able to read
(because the format changed in the Survex output).

[Therion] XTherion modifications

2016-02-17 Thread Markus Boldt
Hi Vladimir,

I say the same as Bruce. Perhaps I already more a user as Bruce and so you will
get no answers from me too. Excuse!

But I want to know:

If I want to use this advantage must I only copy the changes in die INI.file?
But in witch INI-File?

Please do a look to the attachment. There are 4 INI-Files in my directory.

And then simply added that to the end of the file? And I think without the CR
– or is that equal?

Greeting and many thanks for that work!

Markus

Betreff: [Therion] XTherion modifications

Hi all

There are some modifications that I made to the XTherion and would be
interested if someone can test them and share their opinion. They were quickly
patched up and I am no TCL developer so there might be a bug or two.

Initially I needed to have an XTherion shortcut to delete a line point so I
started looking through the source. I added Ctrl+Shift+D for deleting a line
point, Ctrl+Up/Down for zooming in and out in the map editor.

The all blue items in the map editor were harder to use so I tried to colorize
them. E.g. walls to be "brick red", pits are magenta, rock borders dark gray,
slope is yellow, etc. The non-selected scrap is light gray.
The station point I made orange and a triangle instead of a circle so it is
more visible.

I will probably add other colors after I work with the editor more.

I have attached a couple of screenshots of how it looks, the xtherion source
and the "compiled" xtherion tcl app.

Btw, where does the source live, besides the zip archive on the site? Is there
a source control repo somewhere that people can contribute to?

For experimenting with the colors I used a private git repo. I admit I haven't
checked the licensing for the code.

Here are the colors that I changed and added them to the INI file.

#set xth(gui,me,activefill) red
#set xth(gui,me,pasivefill) green
#set xth(gui,me,controlfill) blue
#set xth(gui,me,highlightfill) cyan
#set xth(gui,me,unselectedfill) lightgray
#set xth(gui,me,wallcolor) brown
#set xth(gui,me,pitcolor) magenta
#set xth(gui,me,slopecolor) gold
#set xth(gui,me,rockcolor) snow4
#set xth(gui,me,bordercolor) turquoise
#set xth(gui,me,stationcolor) darkorange

Best
Vladimir

[Therion] Which line are LRUDs perpendicular to?

2015-12-12 Thread Markus Boldt
Hi,

it is only a thinking..

If you began to servey a cave, you take your first LRUD-Data at the first
point. So it must be in a way that Therion estimate the LRUD-Data at the
point where they are taken from.

If not, then the first (e.g. A1 to A2 would only exist as a traverse line
without definitions of the walls.

Greetings

Hello everyone -

The recent discussion about LRUDs brings up another question I have. Take
some example data ...

data normal from to tape compass clino backcompass backclino left right up
down

# Main survey shots

A1 A2 8.4 72.5 -52 252 +53 3 5 3 6

A2 A3 6.7 67 -10 248 +10 2.2 1 2 1.4

A3 A4 48.0 28 +2 208 -1.5 4 5 0.7 1.1

For each shot the LRUD data is taken at the "to" station. Does Therion
assume this data is perpendicular to the line going to the next station? Or
is it perpendicular to the line coming in from the previous station?

At station A2 - Does Therion treat the LRUD data as perpendicular to A1-A2
or as perpendicular to A2-A3?

Thanks - Bill Gee

Betreff: Re: [Therion] Controlling map location on page

Hi Andrew,

This is the result of my survey of the entrance part of Ogof Marros, data taken
yesterday. It appears that the survey is just placed up at the top right corner
of the page... it doesn't look too bad, but I was trying for some more control
over its placing. Any suggestions?

For the surveyors names, I just noticed (see attached) that Antonia F is placed
before Michael P, whatever our respective roles. If there are n names, it
should be possible to specify whatever name order I choose, not in some
automated way, surely? I couldn't fathom this possibility from the
documentation.

I learned alot yesterday! I came away with by far not enough splays, for
example. My final survey station was about 20cm from the end of a scaffolding
bar (yup, I suspected it was too close, but it's a whopping loose boulder
choke, and packed with Scaff, so avoiding is easier said than done), and I
didn't study how the bearing changed with proximity to the bar, but the final
measured leg seems to be off by 90 degrees compared with my expectation! More
experimentation - and survey legs - needed next time!

The water level was high again yesterday, and I suspect we will not be able to
get through the streamway constriction until much longer periods of drier
weather.

One other question you might help with: as we moved between survey stations I
let my PDA go into sleep mode, primarily to save the display power (and hence
battery). But the Bluetooth link with the Disto was lost each time, and I had
to reconnect manually each time via >Menu >Bluetooth >Connect. A pain. Should
some auto connection be possible?

Thanks
Michael

[Therion] Best caving tablet

2015-09-15 Thread Markus Boldt
Hi,
I`am using an old Asus 696 PDA with Wmobil 6 and of course pockettopo. It works
very well. Once I have lost the original pencil in the cave and I couldn`t find
it anymore. It was not so easy, but the surveying on that day was made with my
fingernail ☺. A replacement for the original was found quick and very cheap.
BTW, I have now a second pencil in my small case and both have got a tiny hole
for a thread.
Other members have tried out some android apps. But as I have seen (2014) there
was no app which was able to kalibrate/justify the DistoX. But that is not
really a problem, I think.

I posted this on cave chat.org but no replies:

So I'm awaiting shipment of my DistoX2. I've never used one before.

I am trying to figure out what the best tablet is to use with it. I am using
Therion but I am new to that as well. I used to use Walls and before that On
Station.

I have zero experience with paperless cave surveying. I have never used
Pocketopo or Topodroid which makes it hard to decide between windows or
android. Topodroid seems to be set up well for use with Therion, but again I
have no idea; I've never used an android device only iPhone and iPad. I see the
new ipad pro has a stylus - are there cave survey/disto apps that run on iPad?

A new windows surface pro3 tablet seems like a good idea but are there good
waterproof cases?

Xperia Z4 tablet claims IP68 - can it handle a cave without a case? I can't
seem to find any suitable rugged cases for it.

If price was not a factor what set up would you use?

Thanks

[Therion] Making potractors

I have printed it on a normal paper-sheet and then laminated with a "normal"
Laminator by my work. This "thing" has worked for some years. But we have

problem - it is so simple to make it. BTW - many thanks for that utily!
Now in the time of DistoX I have never used the protractor.

What is the best way to make therion potractors?

Years ago Martin S sent me some really nice robust ones. Ones I have tried
to make since (by printing onto acetate and laminating the
result) do not work well because my laminating sheets only stick to
themselves, not the protractor material, so it opens up at the baseline and
delaminates.

Is it possible to print on one side of a laminating sheet then put two
sheets through the laminator to encapsulate, or will my laminating sheet
just melt in the laser printer? Maybe that could be done, but printed in a
(cold) inkjet printer, so long as no water ever got in?

There is also the matter of the correct 'floppiness/stiffness'.
MartinS were nice and stiff (but robust). Laminator/acetate ones are rather
floppy.

So, how does everyone else do it?

Also http://therion.speleo.sk/protractor/index.php only links to a
1:200 protractor. It would be useful to keep others available there and save
people editing the metafont.

Ah-ha - turns out that we have 1:250 and 1:500 versions carefully preserved
on the CUCC site!

http://expo.survex.com/templates/therion1_500.pdf
And there are some US-units ones online. Collecting them would be a useful

[Therion] Turned through Angle Survey

Hi all,
if you use a theodolite, you will have also an vertikal angle. So this is to

I think Andrew is referring to a Total Station survey, though I presume that
data from an old fashioned theodolite would look much the same. What he needs,
I guess, is an automatic way of correcting (calibrating?) the horizontal angles
with regard to North when the traverse is connected in to fixed points at
either end.

[Therion] How to mark a preferred way through a cave

2015-05-27 Thread Markus Boldt
Hi Michael, (in english so all can understand it, but not be angry about the
poorness :-))
I know your project of "Fuchslabyrinth" and so I may say: for the future it
will be the best Idea to draw the cave or the old bitmaps new. I know, it is
very much work. But after you will have no Problems to add new parts and you
will have all advantages of Therion. Assumed you have the old data of the
centerline, that is clear.
Some years ago, I have done the same with "Vetterhöhle" (2,5Km) and
"Bärentalhöhle" (now 440m). The Vetterhöhle was drawn in AutoCad and that
was a problem for me and others because of the very costy program and the use
of it. The Bärentalhöhle was drawn simply with Tusche (is that the same word
in English as in german?). 400m was not so much work, but enough. But today
I`am lucky about that doing, because every year there comes some meters in
addition. Drawing the Vetterhöhle in Therion was another thing, but at the end
it was the best which someone can do.
"Fuchslabyrinth" is very longer and so very more work, but in the end you will
be lucky too.
If you want, I can give you an offer: Give me the data and the corresponding
bitmaps and I will help you part by part. So I have additionally an advantage;
I don`t forget Therion :-)
Greetings
Markus

PS. All other please over directly message in german :-)

If I understand correctly Dave's suggestion of user defined lines will only
work if you draw scraps, and I don't think that is what you are asking for
(although drawing simple scraps with only station points and route lines to
overlay your bitmaps might be your best solution).

I hesitate to suggest this, but if you don't mind using a nasty hack, you
could, for example set...
flags approx
...on the route, and then redefine l_survey_cave to emphasise the approx
centreline and make recessive other line flags.
An example of the sort of code you could use is here

http://therion.speleo.sk/wiki/doku.php/metapost?s[]=approx#general_symbol_ex
amples
"Visualize cave centreline shot flags with colour for splay and duplicate, and
dash for approximate shot flags"

This will only work with pdf and probably svg outputs, and will have no effect
on 3d outputs.

[Therion] german expression for depth-legend

2015-03-05 Thread Markus Boldt
Dear Bruce,

thank you very much for your very fast answer. It is working!! Nothing else I
have thought J. It is a thing, if a pro does something or if only a (stupid)
user is working J.

It would be a fine thing if “someone” would change the german expression to
simply “Höhe” (Height) or better “Höhe (NN)”. But that brings me to
the question: What happens if there are a cave deeper than 0m (NHN)? Get I a
minus before the numbers?

Greetings

Hello,

if I let make a legend for the depth by color (colour map-fg altitude) the
title of that legend is „Höhe des Titelfeldes“. That is nonsense for me.
Is it possible to change that? May be with some TEX or METAPOST?

In the wiki I have found how it is possible to make changes by myself. But in
my installation (5.3.16/Win7) is no directory named therion/thlang ? AND I
thing I`am too stupid for that…..

Many thanks for an answer

[Therion] extended doesn`t works in the right way

2015-02-19 Thread Markus Boldt
Hi to all,

I have following problem with a very small cave and I doen`t find the
mistake.

The cave has only one shot. The map as plan works ok. But the extended
presentation doesn`t works.

The shot has a plus clino, but Therion does it to minus AND the whole cave
on top. What is wrong?

As attachment there are the *.th, *.th2 and my config file. I am sure
someone will find the mistake.

[Therion] Excuse that simple question

2015-01-11 Thread Markus Boldt
Hi Martin,

I have tried your answer. First I can say it works. But now I must look for the
scales. There is a difference, although I haven`t given no different scales in
the scraps or elsewhere.

Where can I find the “map-header-specifications”. Therion book side number?

Marcus,

you may include to final export PDFs, PNGs, …, also photos, ...

1. Export the PDF, you want to include in final file.

2. Add to layout section the command "map-image"

>From TherionBook: • map-image
> ◃ include image specified by into map at location
>specified by . For coordinates and alignment details, see map-header
>specification.

2. Export final PDF

Hi,

These is a example how to make that. You most do two maps in .th file, one for
plan and other for extended, when you can put the scaps. In config file, in
ouput, you most put the follow.

# *

# Corte Longitudinal de la cueva

# *

  export map -o ../Salida/SC10_Long.pdf -layout my_layout -layout Scale_2 \

  -layout-map-comment "Sección Extendida" \

  -layout-legend off \

  -layout empty_header -layout clean \

  -layout-grid bottom \

  -layout-grid-coords all \

  -layout-map-header 40 80 nw

  #

  # Planta de la cueva con el corte longitudinal

  #

 export map -o ../Salida/SC10_Planta_Long.pdf -layout my_layout \

   -layout water-blue -layout Scale_2 -layout NorthArrow_2 -layout font \

   -layout clean -layout-transparency on -layout-surface bottom\

   -layout-map-image -100 10 s ../Salida/SC10_Long.pdf \

   -layout-map-header 0 0 n -layout-debug station-names \

   -layout-map-comment "Planta"

Hi all,
slowly the time goes to end, there we can buy cheap "old" PDA with
Winmobile. Pockettopo works only on Win platform and small cheap devices

What do you all use? What alternatives are possible. I know about some so
called APPS for Android, but do they work?
I hope you have the same opinion - that this is the right platform.

For those who run Therion on Windows and have not already seen the PDF
viewer tip on the wiki, I use Sumatra PDF reader which is the only reader I
have found on Windows which does not lock the PDF file when it is open in
the reader, and that renders the PDF correctly as well.
Using Sumatra I can keep the PDF window open and each time I recompile my
project the PDF display refreshes automatically which is really handy.

Ideas I have are;

It's strange, but I thought that the whole point of pdf was that the
document would present in identical fashion across displays and platforms.
Has anyone tried printing from different rendering engines & seeing in what
ways the results differ?

Screen display is all very well, but if you are having printing done,
especially by a print shop whose software you have no control over, how do
you know what the results are going to look like before you have coughed up
the (frequently not inconsiderable) price.

What I do know is that if I export to jpg from, Acrobat then the results do
seem to look the same as the Acrobat rendition & those are what get
incorporated into journals. But for A1 or A0 posters I give pdf files to the
print shop. As yet, as far as memory tells me (I have none to hand) they
look like the Acrobat rendition, but others may have different experiences
to me.

Is it possible to define color-map fg only for one scrap in a Project of
about 50 scraps in several surveys?
I have an "all-thconfig" file for this Project and there I have defined a
light yellow for the cave. And in the scrap which I want to have in very
light grey I have defined this very light grey, but it will overwritten.
Many thanks for Ideas.

Thank you very much for that fast answer. Now I will have success. There are
some Ideas in your writing.
So I must process all three caves alone to get the correct length for each
cave. OK, clear!

Sometimes during drawing this project I have thought that it would be fine
if there were a possibility for making two headers (or more) on one Map in
therion.

For example: You have two caves nearby, but there is no connection. Both
caves are small enough to do it on one Map so that you can print it on a big
piece of paper (A0). If you have a header for each cave (map-header cave1 0
0 sw - map-header cave2 0 100 sw..) which you can do with the map-header
command at a place you like.
But may be there is a possibility

A hack, not a nice solution...

Look for "Output Map Title Override" in...

http://therion.speleo.sk/wiki/doku.php?id=tex#overriding_data_supplied_by_th
erion_map_headers
(or more simply you can simply use ...

  code tex-map
 \cavename={Name of cave2}
\cavelength{1000\thinspace{}ft} %enter cave length and units here
 \cavedepth{300\thinspace{}m}
  Endcode

...)

And then the rest of the statistics you can enter by creating a multi-line
map-comment.

map-comment "Name of cave1 with there length \
Name of cave3 with there length \
 \
 Length of cave2 \
 Depth of cave2"

A more elegant solution would be to modify the map-header so that it is
aware of multiple caves in the same way that the cave-list output is aware.
Beyond me I am afraid, but I have a number of projects where this would be a
very desirable addition to Therion.

Dear all,
I want to make a plan, which includes three caves. But how is it possible
that the cavelenght is only added from one Cave-centerline.

For example:
Cave1 = 100m
Cave2 = 2000m
Cave3 = 50m

The best would be if I will get following Header:

Name of cave2

Scalebar and northarrow

Name of cave1 with there length
Name of cave3 with there length

Length of cave2
Depth of cave2
And so on

Thank you for getting a reply.

Sure. You just need to open it in a text editor, and delete all the white
space characters from the file (apart from in the title). Then the KML file
will work in GoogleEarth.

Hallo Thomas,

insgesamt ca. 163 Kg. Also gar nicht sooo schwer.

Dann kostet der Träger so ungefähr 240€ einschl. MwSt. bei Abladung in
Schmiechen. Lieferung geht irgendwie nicht….

Den genauen Preis gibt es in 14 Tagen, weil Huber ins Krankenhaus geht.

I don't know why, but kml files for my surveys produced by Therion appear to
have stopped working in Google Earth. Any therion kml file I try (including
ones which worked in the past) now just show a point in central Africa with
the whole continent visible at the zoom level. If I zoom to where the cave

Thank You, Martin, for the fast answer.
So, it seems me, that it should be the bettest way to convert the PDF to a
high resolution jpeg. Because in this case I use layers. And additionally
there is a problem with the fonts provided by Indesign. Because I cannot see
(in the PDF-File opened by an Editor) an information about the fonts which
are used for making the "cave-PDF". Or is it csss10.pf in this case (see

Hi,

theoretically yes, but you should not specify lower version than
therion chooses (1.4 is required by PDF specification if you use
transparency (this is the default value in therion), 1.5 if you use
layers).

Recent versions of therion include unicode mapping information in pdf
files, so there should be no conversion problems for unicode-aware
applications (provided you have the same font available in both apps,
tested in Inkscape).

If you are using latest therion, please post the file 'therion.log',
otherwise try upgrading.

Therion generates a PDF 1.5. But if I insert that PDF in a publication
developed with e.g. Adobe Indesign, the spezial german characters Ä, Ö, Ü
are not written in the right way. With PDF-Version 1.3 it is all right.

Clearly, it is no problem to convert it with a tool, but it would be easier

I can try to compile from source code. I am on Windows, so some tips for

Hi,

I am not sure if you need European 1979 datum with geographic
coordinates (as your fix example suggests) or projected UTM30
coordinates.

In the first case, you could try EPSG:4668, in the second case I could
send you custom Proj4 definition if it is fine for you to compile
therion from source code. Custom proj4 strings in .th files should be
supported in not so distant future as well.

they seem to be far fussier than the pdf and lox, so I now grab the sat
images and use them. I would guess that the missing parts are were
therion has got the inside and outside confused.

GMapCatcher works well for getting images, but you are breaking the T+Cs
and copyright.

Generally I found it came from having the walls the wrong way round,
tick should be on the air side. Also pillars (when in a single scrap, I
believe) need to have -outline in option set.

However, this is/was not always the case, the error of scraps
overlapping themselves was a good indication of other places it went
wrong, but these are often very difficult to solve, I still have many in
my data sets.

[Therion] Problem with kml-File for google Earth

2011-02-06 Thread Markus Boldt
Hi,
I have a cave with a length from about 400m. It is shared into 8 separated
*.th and *.th2 Files.
All worked well, if I want to get a PDF-File with projection plan.
But in the kml-File (made with: export map -fmt kml -projection plan -layout
standard -output BTH-11-02-06_GS.kml) there are missing part 4 of the cave.

Has anyone an Idea, where the problem could be?

Many thanks
Markus
