Hi,
It might be fine. Execute "catalina.bat run" instead of "startup.bat"
to leave the DOS prompt open. Look at the logs/catalina.out file for
errors.

Hey,
Could anyone give me some pointers on how to find an error that is causing tomcat not
to start. I'm using 4x on Windows, when I got to a prompt in the bin folder and type
'startup' the new DOS window opens for a split second and then closes right away. Most
likely some error in my server.x

I have had a similar problema, but on win XP. The problem was due to the
fact that I had set the JAVA_HOME and the CATALINA_HOME as session
variable and not like system ones.
Don't know if this is the case, but
Good luck!

One of our servers running Tomcat as started experiencing an odd
problem. Tomcat will not start, it is complaining about not being able
to find some classes. The problem started shortly after applying some
updates using YAST. The exception it throws is shown below. We are
running Tomcat 4.1.24
write.lock is part of lucene, not tomcat. If you are sure that nothing is
using the index when when tomcat is shut down, you can delete this file and
that should resolve your problem.

Hi,
I installed Tomcat 4.1.17 on Win NT 4. Installation went through fine
without any problems. Previously, I have installed JDK 1.3.0. When I
started installing, it said "Using JDK found in c:\jdk1.3". Then, when I

Hope it helps

Hi there
I installed Tomcat 4.0.3 on my Windows 2000 machine. I do not have Apache
Web Server installed. I have JDK1.3.1. I have the relevant environment
variables set accordingly.
Tomcat won't start when I start the Tomat Service. I check the stdout.log

I have been using xerces with 1.3.1 albeit on WinNT
and have no problems with it. You have to make sure in
your tomcat.properties, wrapper.properties and
tomcat.bat, you mention xerces.jar on the top where
ever you configure the library files
for example in tomcat.properties

I get this. It sucks.
The issue, for me at least, stems from the fact that i am running a
Struts project, and i need to override the jaxp.jar classes with xerces
parser classes.
I previously did this by putting a jar named 0xerces.jar in the lib/
folder of my tomcat install, which worked fine
Should I take the complete lack of any feedback on this subject to mean that no one
has tried Tomcat/Linux/j2sdk 1.3.1?

Has anyone run Tomcat under linux with j2sdk 1.3.1-b24? I have been using Tomcat
3.2.1 (and now 3.2.2) happily for some time now with j2sdk 1.3 and linux (SuSE 7.1,
kernel 2.4.5). I decided to get current with my Java VM, but when I try to start up
Tomcat I get this error:
