Yeah - sorry - my typo - I meant to say would NOT recommend - I had
forgotten it doesn't have 5GHz capability - but regardless as 5GHz is
less stable (at distance) than 2.4GHz I wouldn't put it on that even if
capable.

Anyway the Wi-Fi discussion is an 'aside' - fundamentally you just need
to eliminate it from your issue causing your DAC connection reboot
issues...

Thanks again. a lot of my devices really aren't taking up too much band
with. ie Ecobee thermostats , apple watches, etc.
BTW I thought the SBT runs only on 2.4ghz? If not, how do I point it to

Just further FWIW to clarify I have about 20 devices in my home on the
network (2-storey house) and I only have 5-6 on my Wi-Fi WLAN; being my
SBT in my secondary set-up (in master bedroom upstairs) and my fiancée's

latter is my old model iPad Mini 2 used solely as a controller for my

At my fiancée's house in another city (where her 2 sons currently live)
they are reasonably active online gamers (PS3/4 / XBox) - and as soon as
we turn up for a visit with our 4 iPhones/iPads on their 2.4GHz WLAN
their gaming starts lagging and suffering as they also have 4-7 other
devices on the same WLAN as well (theirs & girlfriend's phones/laptops,

high-end gaming router and running 2 WLANs - a dedicated 5GHz one just
for their 2 game consoles, everything else on the 2.4GHz WLAN. While I

Your router may not support it. If you have dedicated WAPs they should
(i.e. you don't use a consumer 'all-in-one' router).

I'm talking about temporarily - if its too far take your SBT and DAC and
such to the router and temporarily set them up there and test if you
still have the same issue over Ethernet (cabled) connection - make sure
you turn Wi-Fi off on the SBT when you do. Youc an then either (a)
eliminate Wi-FI as an issue (if its still happens regardless) or (b)
confirm the WI-Fi is the issue (the issue disappears).

I doubt it makes any difference - if you have 25 devices in your home
all connected to the same single WLAN then IMHO you will have ongoing
bandwidth issues regardless... That's an insane number of devices for a
single consumer WLAN with no cabled infrastructure behind it...

FWIW I'd be a bit concerned if you have that many active devices on the
single Wi-Fi - mesh or no mesh - basically if even ¼ are all doing stuff
at the same time there will not be much bandwidth per device... Again
FWIW if it was me I'd be running 2 WLANs (2.4GHz) at opposite ends of
the channel ranges (e.g. something like 3, and 9 or 11), and use one for
your mesh for all your other devices and have one dedicated to only your
SBT and nothing else. (Note: If your router and WAPs support up to
Channel 13, you can use 11, if not it's about 9 - if you are in the USA
it will only be up to 11 I think. You should ideally only use something
like 3, 6 or 9 IIRC, due to overlap - if you have lots of neighbours
around any of these then avoid and use the other one(s) if possible).

You probably need to just get a long Ethernet cable and run it to the
SBT (or move everything to where you router is) and just try that for a
bit - to eliminate the WI-Fi entirely from the equation.

Unfortunately not very well versed in router settings

I can't seem to see a dhcp adress refresh rate.

The Orbi that is connected to my Fios router is in "bridge mode"

I dont see a option for b/g on the 2.4ghz mode.

Thx Larry

Larry

some random thoughts

Do you know the renewal interval for the dhcp IP Address lease in the
router? Normal is 24 hours I think.

If the SBT is switched off longer than the renewal interval then the
router will treat it as new, although it may give it the same address.

Can you reserve the IP Address of the Touch in the router

Can you power the SBT from another source.

Can you try a wireless bridge ? It is possible to do this with an old
router if you have one (you'll have to google how to)

24/192 over wireless is pushing it.
I can't get that to run reliably here, and the WiFi router here is a
couple of metres away from my Squeezebox Touch.
Wired is the way way to go.

Yea. Im starting to really think my problem is in the wireless on the
SBT. I have a relatively new Fios router and a Orbi Mesh system with 3
satellites. I must have at least 25 items connected with out any
problems
The Touch seems to disconnect from the satellite( about 20 ft away)
randomly.
The odd ting is when I try to reconnect it cant. Despite seeing the
network at full strength.
The only remedy is to unplug and replug the SBT. Then it connects.
Despite leaving the SBT on 24/7

I have try changing the channels on the 2.4ghz spectrum to no avail.
Some suggested that I try to reduce the power setting on the 2.4ghz on
the Orbi to 50%.

Simply, wireless or ethernet into the SBTouch ?

The thing is, 192/24 over wireless should not really be a problem, maybe
relocating the Router (higher is often advised on the internet) or
running a long Ethernet cable (I use a flat, 30 metre one from router to
switch)

If using files stored on a hard disk of some sort (NAS or usb hard disk)
I have an out of the box idea that if these are downloaded files that
this might cause some plackback problems. It's just an idea, no proof.
but your problem is primarly one of connection between two devices.

I agree with Mycenius that the start up order is important. Power on dac
first and then the SBTouch. If the reverse method is observed then the
SBT can be seen hunting for the DAC.

Most of this stuff is designed to be put into standy for everday use and
only powered off if use is not intended for extended periods (as one
does when going away, for a few, or several days).

Another thought is that the power supply for the SBT is starting to
fail, which may cause problems.

I hope you sort out the problem
