Ok sounds like it could certainly be the same or very similar.
As to moving forward with this, the various Ubuntu touch patches are
needed to support various hardware that is used on Ubuntu phones.
I am also getting hold of similar hardware and will be looking into
this again once it arrives.

This is a syslog where this occured... a whole 10MBs of it. There's
three texts within the last 5 minutes, the first one only "arrived"
straight after I woke the phone up, the next two arrived fine despite
the phone being, afaict, asleep.

Yeah I'm able to reproduce now, it must be a weird interaction between
Qt's ListView and horizontal scrolling on the touchpad. I can reproduce
a similar issue on my laptop under unity7.

I found out, that after installing the latest updates and REBOOTED the
bug is gone. No more arrows, and connection establishes directly.
For me the bug can be closed as "soled"

subdirectory .cache to xx.cache and then reboot.
It worked to me but I have lost the history of Unity sidebar and
browsers except firefox.
