This happens if someone inserts a flash card or copies a collection from
some other music library, such as iTunes. For songs that don't have
embedded artwork, various music players store the artwork in a file
inside an album's folder. iTunes uses AlbumArtSmall.jpg and Folder.jpg.
Other players use

Indeed, they do, which is annoying. For me, it picks up images from

Not sure there is a bug there at all, actually. The media scanner
indexes the file, and the thumbnailer can't make a thumbnail for it
because there is no codec for the file. So, no thumbnail. That's

I just re-tested with image 383 from rc-proposed and 2.9.1.1276 of
gallery app. This is much better behaved now, thanks! I'm no longer
seeing the redundant requests.

Sorry, me bad, what I said is just plain wrong.
Looking at the dog.mp4, it actually has "title" and "encoded by" tags.
Looks like yet another problem with the hardware codecs.

Thanks Pat! I got a click from Bill yesterday. I can install that OK on
rc-proposed r382 for Mako but, when I run the gallery app, it just sits
there with a white screen after startup and shows the little spinner in
the center of the screen forever.
Is anyone else seeing this?

The problem appears to be that the metadata is encoded in the audio
stream of a video. If there is no audio stream, there is no metadata.
I guess the only possible fix would be for mediascanner2 to index the
video with its path name, and maybe its total play time because that is
pretty much all th

After downgrading to r375 (mako, rc-proposed), I'm getting the crash
loop again. Rebooting fixes the problem.
I then upgraded to r382, and the problem is gone. Whatever this was, it
looks like it's gone away.
