You should change your repo address:
sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list
and exchange http://ftp.rediris.es/mirror/Trisquel/packages/; to
http://es.archive.trisquel.info/trisquel/;
save and exit.
sudo aptitude update
and you should be set.
Or with GUI: Update Manager Settings choose another mirror on Download
from in Trisquel Software tab.
I use Trisquel 6 since November and is very fast on my test computer with 8
years old =)
Indeed, my GTX 660 (not 560 as I have previously mentioned here) now works
with free software. Not stable for 3D, but 3D DOES work, which is amazing. Go
Nouveau.
And about GNOME Shell? Works fine?
To explain a little further, ftp.redir.es was a repository mirror which came
by default for Trisquel 5.5, and is now inactive (not working). To solve the
problem do what starchild or icarolongo said.
Hello community!
I'm starting this thread to share some of the issues I encountered during the
testing of the latest Toutatis image. I would be glad if somebody share the
link to this thread to Ruben ASAP so the bugs can be fixed before the
deadline. I'm also asking all of you to help with
P.S.: Sorry for the formatting but I wrote this in a hurry and the site does
not let me to edit it.
Since we're running behind schedule and all you need is an icon - is there
anything we can do to help? It's ridiculously easy to make icons with GIMP.
:)
Or even simpler: Software Sources. ;-)
I think the color thing is why it just uses the system default now, which
looks fine.
I've just sent a message using the contact form. Hope Ruben gets it in time.
Yeah, but not if I replace it with a Menu Bar applet which I usually do.
You should tell that on the #trisquel-dev IRC channel.
Can you do it for me? I doesn't use nor have a IRC client installed.
You can use Pidgin.
Done.
Although, notice that you do have an IRC client: Pidgin. Here is the related
manual in Trisquel's documentation.
I know but I does not have it installed and does not want to waste the time
by setting it up just for this one occasion. Is it so much trouble for
somebody here to just send the link to this thread to Ruben?
Taskbar not being transparent is merely an aestetic issue IMHO. More severe
(and annoying) is the issue of ALT-rightclick do not function. It was not
fixed as of RC5.
Thank you VERY MUCH!! I'm not a dumb, just running a self-made heavily
modified version of Trisquel and does not wanted to complicate things if I
does not need. Here, take a look at my desktop to understand what I am
talking about. My system is still unfinished because of the underlaying
You must press Super(Windows logo) + ALT + Right click!
The issue with gnome-sudoku seems to be (like always) an upsteam bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-games/+bug/1050063
Anyway, non-functional software should be discarded from the image if someone
does not fix it quickly.
Yep, you are right since I reported it already inside our issue tracker few
weeks ago. (=

Ok, apparently that one was me :)
Installing gir1.2-launchpad-integration-3.0 fixes the problem.
We also know of:
* Newly created accounts set as administrator do not have sudo access.
* gnome-shell and gnome-session are conflicting packages.
There are multiple reasons not to use ghostery, besides the fact it is
non-free, they too began tracking users.
I blogged about this a few years back...

The fist problem seems to be easily fixed with the following command:
$ sudo adduser new_user_name admin
The second problem worries me. Many Trisquel users (including myself) have
switched to GNOME Shell. Will the automatic distribution update (from Taranis
or Brigantia) work? Will there be
GNOME Shell is apparently really difficult to install (I wasn't able to get
it working) and not working properly (someone on IRC who got it to work said
the logout and shutdown button didn't work). This really sucks for me; it's
not a deal-breaker (shouldn't slow down the release), but I
Actually, I look for the GPL, instead of caring how the software itself is
labeled.
I could not install it either (in January), Have you tried to install this
PPA, which is supposed to provide parts of GNOME 3.4 that didn't make it
into the normal Ubuntu 12.04 repositories? That may help but I personally
have not tried.
Just wanted to accurate what I already said before. For the lucky ones who're
already using Toutatis and are having issues with broken Adobe Flash playback
on different sites, just do the following:
Open a terminal window (press [Ctrl]+[Alt]+[T]), then enter the following:

Or ALT+F2, run software-properties-gtk; I recall it is in Triskel (KDE),
but I don't know if it is there in Trisquel Mini or any other flavor, if any.
Toutatis seems to be a clear improvement over Brigantia, although not quite
sure about the quality term. From Brigantia onwards, Trisquel isn't that
good anymore. That's why I'm asking you to proof-test the first real

I really did not notice any catastrophe with Brigantia (although it was the
first release since GNOME 3). I was personally using the GNOME Shell
interface (which required 3D acceleration).
I believe the next STS (based upon Ubuntu 12.10) should be skipped. Starting
its development now
It needs to be LTS to LTS release at this point. Ubuntu 13.04 comes out in
April and when synching version numbers, that means Trisquel 7. Trisquel 6
isn't even out yet and it is based off an Ubuntu release nearing a year old
and has had 3 ISO updates (12.04, 12.04.1, 12.04.2).

That works! After installing that PPA, I was able to install both
gnome-session and gnome-shell at the same time, which was what was needed. I
also manually installed mutter, but I don't know if I needed to do that.
We were having a discussion about FLOSS games in IRC and several topics were
raised. Basically no one has a complete PlayDeb repo of just libre games and
there's no fully Steam clones since Desurium offers non-free packages.
See: http://www.desura.com/groups/desurium
So rather than re-invent
Time wise you might be right. I think the benefit of skipping the STS release
would be that there is more time to backport critical driver/software pieces
during the points at which Rubén would have been working on STS releases. It
wouldn't bring out the LTS releases sooner though. In fact
I have two computers, one with an Internet connection, and one without on
which I am trying to install Firefox and Thunderbird. (Before you say
anything, I promise I will never install any non-free add-ons.) Following
instructions I found elsewhere, I downloaded the files, extracted them to
Usually, there is a common bug under all STS releases, that said, when you
uncheck the Source code checkbox under Software Sources in order not to
add the deb-src line when adding a new repository with add-apt-repository,
nothing really changes and the apt is happily creating this annoying
And what I meant to say about the STS releases is that they should be
released whenever Ruben wanted to make one, or should be abandoned at all.
Every effort and energy should be focused solely to make LTS as up-to-date as
possible (backport ubuntu-specific linux-packages, synchronize
Even Ubuntu doesn't seem very bug free to me. However that said are you sure
that these problems are down to something you did?
The flickering might be due to an older kernel with the Intel graphics.
The RTL8187 might be a card going bad.
Coincidences are more common than you'd think.
And
There were three things actually.
I have another issue with Toutatis. Because my notebook has a full hd
(1920x1080) screen on a 13.1 inch surface, it is essential to make the fonts
bigger by adjusting the Text scaling factor in Advanced Settings by
1.5. This causes that the underlying descriptions in System Settings are

Well, I don't know about forcing, but I got it to work by installing this

Then you can install both gnome-session and gnome-shell.
Whoops, that file happens to be exactly what I have already. Looks like I
misnamed this thread. So, how do I install from that binary? None of the
executables in the extracted folder will run or do anything.
That is wonderful news! I will then switch my own laptop to Trisquel 6.0
Toutatis. Have you informed the developers? I think this tip deserves to be a
note in the release announcement or, at least, a page in the documentation.
I just mentioned it on #trisquel-dev so they can see.
You probably want to run run-mozilla.sh. Try running it in the terminal and
note any error output; I'd bet you just have missing dependencies.
Installation is just copying it to a place you like, either your home folder
if only you are using it or perhaps /opt if others will be using it.

Why Trisquel uses old Users and Groups instead Users from GNOME System
Settings like Ubuntu 12.04?
Could be related to this bug report:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/147943
I will try using Metacity and see if I stop getting the issue.
Hmm... that could explain a difference I noticed when using the Ubuntu
documentation to change the user image (it wasn't possible in Trisquel).
But that's more of a feature request than a bug I guess.

Some people don't like the simplicity from GNOME System Settings but I think
is better for end user. They don't need
just running a self-made heavily modified version of Trisquel and does not
wanted to complicate things if I does not need.
You might want to try using a different theme. The Trisquel theme is designed
for a dark background which is why it looks a little bit strange.
