Yep, I just tested gnome shell and it's awesome. The zoom is just as you described and it even have an option so that the window magnifier its self follows the mouse around. I hoped that installing gnome shell would give the zoom option to gnome fallback as well, but that was not the case.

After connecting the scanner, have you try to open simple scan a try it already? You can find simple scan at the program menu in Graphic section, the try to scan. If the scan is not recognize it should tell you that no scan was found. I think you probably tried this already, but usually

I already email them to ask them. I'm guessing they want you to make sure LCD panel is supported since not all x60 tablets LCD are.

After a while on hanging out with the wonderful guys at #libreboot IRC, I believe I found a way to make sure this machine is the one it says without having the seller to run commands. I haven't tested yet, but it seems one could input the serial number and see what components was built in

The only Intel Media Accelerator I could find on h-node was Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500, and it says it works with 3d acceleration, but I guess that doesn't means the 600 does to.
