Not for nothing, but shouldn't devuan be listed? It is indeed a debian
derivative, although I may not be completely aware of something so please
fill me in... if I wrong.
Are you thinking of doing this for the same reason, QT3 is being continued to
be supported by the Trinity Desktop group?
Just curious...
Very much so in fact...
Nobody knows... ;)
Just delete all my posts and threads on this website, I can no longer trust
myself being on here.
PS,
I was foolish, forget I exist.
David, delete this and all other threads of mine/posts.
The reason, I am writing this thread, IS I AM TIRED OF YOU fuckers thinking
you have the right to thumb me down everytime I make any comment you see as
critical of systemd.
I am done with this infernal forum, you people have crossed the line for the
last time.
See here:
https://trisque
That is something a mod would do.
Yup.
PS, this is the wrong part of the forum for this thread... I think this
should be moved to Freedom misc.
The below helps once you install Hyperbola:
rc-update add lvm boot
rc-update add dmcrypt boot
rc-update add mdraid boot
rc-update add cronie default
rc-update add elogind default
rc-update add alsasound default
rc-update add sshd default
rc-update add NetworkManager default
rc-update add syslog
in 2014 I was using trisquel up until, I think 2016, then I changed to Debian
jessie and switched sometimes with testing, then Devuan jessie sometimes
though moving to its form of stretch, ascii... and then follow back to one
years ago exactly I switched to Hyperbola, which I haven't tried h
Meh, who cares if popcorn time is legal or not? Copyright is abused to death
anyhow and quite frankly is being taken to the umph extreme.
Calling it piracy is just dumb.
Since when has sharing a copy of any software caused a ship to sink? Since
when does it cause lots of people to die? Or be
Hmm... I never have had that problem with suspend even with trisquel 7.
Trisquel 8 I imagine could be different, but more than likely its something
of a bug.
Hibernate however works very badly on trisquel 7, so I assume the same can be
said for trisquel 8.
You are indeed very generous, I am surprised you would do this, but what a
blessing for those who want those routers in the EU/UK.
:)
That is the better answer in my opinon too, some firefox derivative such as
iceweasel-uxp or waterfox with all non-free stuff disabled or icecat/abrowser
better.
Of course only two of those work on other gnu/linux distros.
Pity...
Anything with webextensions just seems like a bad idea at th
Listen to Vikings, my solid state drive for my x200 is one of those.
I wouldn't say virtualbox is totally non-free, just that damn open watcom
compiler part for the most part. and yes, virtualbox is non-free, (it was
only free ifrom 4.0 till 4.2.)
Virt-manager is what I use, its easy to figure out and it has none of
virtualbox's bloat.
Qemu is a lot harder
If you have to use a chromium based browser, use iridium browser. Supposedly
that one is free software.
Do you have an x200 already if so I would assume you would have to do
research.
If not just buy from minifree.org
Virt-manager is a good one.
Ah, good ol orca, always a pain in the ass lol.
I think they should at least lower the sound of orca to 50% at least or do
like parabola/hyperbola and have a seperate version with it enabled.
There is one even better way, look for a router that has all versions
supported. Such as the netgear wndr3800.
It has two different versions, one for china, one for everything else so
yeah.
But, both are supported so yeah.
:)
I believe the only versions of virtualbox that was free was from 4.0-4.2.
Although virt-manager is way, way better than anything else.
Cool, I am thinking of getting one.
At least until some whack jobs solve this problem by giving it like 1 million
hours plus and then releasing his source code somewhere under a libre
license... until then, it will not happen.
Even this might not be enough to fix intel's garbage. I think the better
option is just to ditch in
Really? I got mine for 40$?
In any case Leah's new price tag isn't too far out of my interest if I need
another one. :)
I think that will do well for people. I like that idea. I am sure people here
will buy more now!
Or if its related to gnome/mate, disable the beep by removing the screen
reader app.
It was annoying for me too.
Not quite, I do care about program size.
Because most likely, the larger the program size, the more ram used which
means...
More battery life used.
And that I care about a whole lot.
Ah, thanks for clarifying. It is a shame though that you don't have a
disributor to buy them from who lives in america to send them to you for a
good price. :(
I thought that was the case though.
Nope you misunderstood, I may have phrased it wrong though so let me be
clear:
My x200 froze quite a few times even when using Hyperbola, (Correct)
When I said this however:
"Systemd may or may not be the culprit"
I was talking to the OP more than anything
Sorry if I wasn't clear about this
That is interesting, so I was wise to get the X200 then. Probably more
battery life to the X200 I imagine. Maybe by one or two hours.
I suppose its possible that it had to do with the meltdown/spectre patches
for linux-libre/linux-libre-lts...
When those bugs were discovered, for at least a few months I had trouble
having that same issue. My x200 libreboot froze quite a few times. Even when
using Hyperbola.
I dunno if
Ah, okay. so it happens with bsd, unix and the rest? The rest of course,
being "The really untrustworthy ones."
Out of curiosity what is your favorite desktop environment? I like xfce4
because it is lightweight, almost as much as lxqt/lxde but with one notable
difference: there is a way
does the original one not have a free bootloader? If so, you are correct.
Interesting, I had no idea. I wonder if it is more expensive in other
countries...
Just so you know, wdnr3800 has only two versions. Both supported, one is
china and one is not. Unless they made new ones since I got mine.
Does librecmc remove all blobs from it? just wondering.
Just wondering, are you referring to gnu/linux before the 2000s?
or in general?
That aside, desktop environments I think are lightweight/stable.
XFCE and LXQT are good ones,
LXQT is ugly, but meh... it works fine when I tried it recently.
Love/hate issue with it though.
XFCE is what I enjoy
Well, I gotta agree, you did sound condescending and it surprised me that you
of all people made that last comment, you usually don't do that on here from
what I know..
but yeah, I don't really like or trust systemd. But its not really due to
errors, its the unknown which I know nothin
But, isn't webgl a security risk?
That's odd, 98euros seems like alot...
Not trying to be rude,
I got mine for less. Of course I did install librecmc myself, but it wasn't
really hard.
I am puzzled.
Either way, there are a lot of those routers. So it does make sense to sell
them with librecmc on them.
;)
Hyperbola and Freenix are both good non-systemd distros. I never used
Freenix, but Hyperbola I indeed have and I love it.
First he should check to see if it even can have coreboot put on it. That's
my opinion anyways.
Yep, Your not alone in this regard.
I am enjoying it, I still post here from time to time, but yeah. It's good.
:)
How would I do that? can anyone confirm if this is true, and that would be
cool.
Except the intel me would still be somewhat on...
I had a t420 before, it would be awesome if the me was 95% clean because then
the wifi card could be changed.
Reset loops yes.
I have seen this happen before myself, without messing with the bios and only
messing with the software side. Debian testing/devuan testing back when
version stretch was in testing status.
I think I have also seen this happen in trisquel 7.
It is/was annoying.
Try contacting a libreboot seller and maybe you will get a good answer.
Just don't contact libiquity via email, pehjota is a nice guy, but he is slow
to respond sometimes.
I did order from him so I have an idea of that. ;)
Let's Necro this thread!
This doesn't surprise me one bit.
Let's necro this thread for fun!
Just so you know, I did make a joke, it was about callousness of microsoft,
and callousness of systemd devs.
and I should have been more clear, if you need to make fun of anti-systemd
people rather than inits, which I am sure you do, there is no problem, ps, I
have nothing against vegans.
The cons mentioned are either from the web links I mentioned, with one
exception,
Removing systemd completely including library files is near impossible in
debian.
Even if you are installing sysvinit or openrc combo in exchange.
I think ubuntu choose systemd because debian did.
"Lots. *Ev
That's my only complaint with devuan to be honest.
Alright, I had no idea that the answer I looked up was wrong.
Nope, you can always reinstall the system if you think your locked out.
That's just one way, if you don't know how to burn an iso, just buy one from
thinkpenguin.com
It is extremely easy to reinstall even when I was a noob to gnu/linux, it was
easier than fedora.
Do you have a password for when the laptop first boots up?
I think there is a way, but I will post if nothing else to keep thread alive.
Okay, but what advantages does systemd have then that makes it worth changing
to besides being easier on developers.
I honestly don't see any so far, other than that its easier on the
developers. I have seen more cons than pros personally.
But actually I read devuan's position and without-
Conspiracy theories aside, I don't know if systemd is a backdoor or not, I
just prefer not use it,
but tell me, why has devuan succeeded in getting community support when
fedora's and
ubuntu's systemd-free forks failed?
Just wondering what your thoughts are.
I don't understand how this is wrong, I never, have said you cannot make fun
of anti-systemd inits, just don't do it in anger.
If you like systemd, good for you, I just don't get why at the drop of a coin
I make a joke about it, and you guys go to town on me.
You can do the same thing, just
Man, you need to chill out, I was only saying that they should have locked
the thread or left it open to everyone.
geez, and stop telling me what to do man, you are not my master.
ps, in trisquel you are correct, no threads related to systemd problems, but
in others you don't know for sure a
Interesting, something to look into for the future I guess. :)
I was going to ignore the thumbs down, but I feel its important, to say why I
put this post here,
Anytime you lock a thread just because you don't want to hear something, you
should lock it from everyone responding including yourself.
You shouldn't block only people who might disagree with
That thread was given about as much respect as this one:
https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/5644
I had thought as much...
Here is the best type of controller adapter for gnu/linux systems including
debian, trisquel and hyperbola.
https://www.raphnet-tech.com/
There are a fair amount of products on this website that work out of the box
without any issues. I have some experience with one of the n64 adapters.
he
Is guix more stable then Parabola or more unstable then Parabola or as
unstable as Parabola testing? curious I am.
Do what stallman recommends, or use eclipse or idle3 or some other libre
alternative.
This is curious, I am surprised...
Draconian laws indeed, how can they be considered free trade agreements? They
are clear not free at all. DCMA is evil anyways.
It is a legacy addon so probably it will say it is not compatible. Unless
you using firefox 52 esr.
If you are anyone is desperate, this will do:
https://www.thinkpenguin.com/gnu-linux/usb-30-101001000-gigabit-ethernet-network-adapter-tpe-1000net3
NVIDIA, is worse than intel in one way at least, they have always been
hostile to free software way beyond what they need to be, Intel and AMD
probably have some stupid law keeping them from not adding backdoors, not
that, that, makes them innocent of course, but when a company far exceeds th
You know what, I used to be in the mindset of thinking such thoughts were
foolish, but meltdown and spectre are the first of many flaws in intel, so I
will likely be jumping ship someday with you.
Tell me something, what do you think about Eoma68's chances of success?
Unless people using Hyperbola, legacy addons will not work. or if you use
basilisk which is and I quote, "not free software"
See
https://trisquel.info/en/forum/install-extension-link-wiki-page-abrowser-addon-random-agent-spoofer-not-working-me#comment-134181
That's a legacy addon. It will not work with abrowser due to it being a
firefox quantum fork.
I used xiphos before also, try bibletime if that doesn't work.
librepup is outdated I thought though...
Trisquel does have issues, but that one I doubt is it.
That sounds absurd.
Aww, but people love necroing! so much so that they thumb me down many times
when I do it.
but seriously, it is amusing at times when people necro. ;)
I am curious how you apply user.js in firefox esr 52
"I see no reason for Trisquel's developers to waste their time on a dead
project like Unity."
You mean like Gnome 3?
;p
Yes I know that gnome 3 is still being worked on, but it looks rather,
bloated. To be blunt, I don't get why people like it.
Umatrix is more complicated no doubt, but I think you should look up what
noscript actually is.
Noscript has a crap ton of security protections, and moreover, it is usually
a script blocker.
You should if nothing else, use it in that mode.
It really is a recommended security addon.
I thought telegram was non-free because of the server it connects to.
Please use noscript, and if the blocking gets to be too much, put it in allow
all globally dangerous scripts. You still get a fair amount of protection
that way.
Privacy possum is like privacy badger, but way better.
Google is the most fascinating, of the enemies of free software, to me
anyways... for one reason:
They hire people who work on coreboot, and give them some freedom, they use
free software licenses in malicious ways, and most of all, they track so many
people across the world, its hard to beli
Do you like unity that much? Just wondering.
I forget what it looks like though. and I believe ubuntu is going to abandon
it in the future if it hasn't already.
I may be wrong, but I have heard people on this forum say such things.
Yes, Ghostery is proprietary software.
The same way as WOT...
and this is no joke. alas.
I don't like most of the desktop environments. I only really like XFCE, LXDE
and Budgie.
Qt is fine for some purposes, but not desktop environments. That's my opinion
anyways.
Noscript is a good one, Ublock origin and privacy possum are also really
smart choices.
Ghostery is a really, really bad idea.
I use lxdm and lightdm
I cannot pinpoint all of them, I just find plasma ugly that's all.
plus, I like GTK icons/themes for some reason.
OR, you could do, sudo aptitude remove file. file being the thing you want to
remove. If it is a problem it won't let you do it. that's the honest truth.
In my previous experience anyways.
I don't have nearly enough interest or skill to do so. Besides, XFCE4 is
fine with me. :)
Like a superman without a weakness? (1950's superman aka) ;P
In all seriousness though, lxde isn't dead but it will become dead in the
near future unless someone forks it. ;)
Hmm it may be proprietary. But I could be wrong, it might just require more
tweaking/workaround(s)
but regardless, it most likely is still non-free to some form.
This is true. I just wish that they could make Lxqt have an option to look
like LXDE. I wonder why this hasn't been thought of...
I respectfully disagree, I really don't like LXQT's interface. it is majorly
ugly.
no offense.
XFCE should be the next mini I think.
I used to like LXDE the most, but yeah, it was when they decided to move to
qt5 I decided to go to xfce4.
XFCE is almost as light and supports changing desktop wallpaper depending on
duration. That is why I use XFCE now.
That and, LXDE is going to be no longer supported... ;(
Although mayb
