I'm a bit concerned about the fact that all one can do to verify the download
of Uruk is checking MD5/SHA256 sums.
Apparently, no GPG-signature or public key is offered.
Maybe Uruk developers can offer this in the future.
Nevertheless, I think I'm gonna give it a try - at least start a live
I stand corrected. Thanks for the detailed response :)
I have both a SATA 3 HDD and a M.2 SSD in my laptop. Benchmarking them with
'hdparm -t' respectively gives 0.142 GB/s and 0.430 GB/s of transfer rates.
Benchmarking my DDR4 RAM with memtest86+ gives 21.053.
So the RAM is about 150 faster than my HDD but still about 50 times faster

Pardon, but using swaps makes my machine feeling less heats for using less
RAM than not using swaps. I’ve also tried to hiebrnate my system and backed

Just clarifying and finalizing, systems run on hard drives dnt matter with
how much swaps or without, but systems run on RAM will be happy to be under
more swaps, right?
Anyway I have at least 3.72GiB of hardware memories, i.e. RAMs, and not every
my systems are equipped with swap but just work well w/o a need of swaps.
Can I upgrade from an Uruk 2.0 beta to the final release, or do I need to
reinstall from scratch?
I'd like a copy of install-guix.sh. I hate following the Guix manual
every time I install Trisquel.
install-guix.sh (or whatever it was called) did not work.
Okey, cool. Thanks for the reply

I tried the live image of Uruk 2.0. It is much better comparing to earlier

OK, so I'm confused. I just downloaded a fresh copy of beta2 from
SourceForge, checked the SHA256, and made a USB installer (see:

I installed it and got what appeared to be a Mate desktop. This was wierd,
My laptop is also mid-low-ended, i3-2367 amd64 and 3.72GiB RAM, and I am a

Would it be good to you if you help Uruk to port an OpenRC edition for them?

Hi alimiracle !
Thanks for all your hard work.
I would like to know which kernel and xorg version uruk-beta2 has ?
Is it 4.4 and 1.18 ?
Thanks again !
It was at times a long, difficult road. But we glad it was long and
difficult, because if we hadn’t gone through hell to get there, the lesson
might not have been as clear.

Bravo to the Uruk Team, despite the issues you faced you have done a great
job !
Thanks ;-)
Since I tweaked i3 and mastered its usage, I dont want anything else anymore.
It's the same with vim.
At first you might think "wtf, who would ever want to use that?" but then you
realize that there is nothing better out there.
I am with uruk 2.0. I happy with it. But it tooks more ram space than uruk
1.0. my ram = 2 gb. I always prefer 64 bit. Any benefit of 32 bit Os than 64
bit?

Yes.
Uruk is downstream from Trisquel Flidas which is downstream from Ubuntu

That was what impressed me about the alpha. I don't know what I was

If I ever have to use Windows I'll know who I can confess my sins to.
Have to give congratulations: as an "end user" and novice GNU/linux user, I

It actually ran better faster than Trsiquel on this old HP laptop I'm using.
Great job guys.

I'm running the beta on my little netbook; it looks nearly finished. Not
sure whether I can install onto my Thinkpad that has uefi; Trisquel won't
boot on the thing. Interested in learning more about this guix package

I waiting for final release.
Congratulations, hayder and alimiracle!
Ignucius the Saint blesses your computers, long may they run!
Downloading the beta, now, and will have more to say avter I've had a look at
it. Glad you've decided to return to Mate de; accessibility in Cinnamon is
not ready.
I personally struggle with the same issue. Doesn't matter how much I run,
eventually I end up going back to mate. It works flawlessly. Other DE's makes
me more productive, but mate is just too good. Maybe one day it will be more
customizable, so one can work without the two bars easily...
I'd have said flux or openbox instead of i3wm, but that's just because I'm
old. :)
Uruk is truly amazing and it's good to see you posting here. Mate is just
fine. I enjoyed checking out the alpha on DVD and USB stick and look forward
to seeing how far the beta has come as soon as I can.
The best DE is no DE, I suggest you move to i3wm :) loool nah just kidding
guys, congratulations for your excellent work. Uruk is awesome.
In any war or big problems, there are calms between storms. There will be
days when we lose faith. Days when our apps, DE, and codes turn against us.
But the day will never come that we forsake this project and his community.
hello, my name is Hayder Majid and i'm going to tell you story:

I looked at the website but I didn't find much info. I'm sort of getting the
vibe that Uruk is a light weight (less resources) version of Trisquel, with
a Mate desktop environment and a couple of tools that simplify adding
applications, etc for the new user.
Is that about right?
Also,
It has Guix installed by default, for one thing, and all sorts of handy dandy
tools for newbies who have never used Gnu/Linux before but are intelligent
enough to learn with a bit of hand holding and learn more on their own once
they get a peek at what all they fuss was about and why their
