It doesn't give me a choice which connector to use.
As I said, I can connect to UD 5.2 and UD 7.2 on two different servers
with any other client software on my PC (SBClient, UniAdmin,
mvDeveloper, VSG) by just entering the server name.

I do remember fiddling with that field.

I see a lot of talk about this CONVERT.SQL command. I have never used it.
So out of curiosity I'll ask a couple of noob questions...
I saw a demo on ODBC for Universe, and the person suggested setting up a new
account and creating clean dictionaries for existing files. (by using F
pointers).

I am really confused. If it uses UniObjects, there should be very
little need for the ODBC driver and CONVERT.SQL.
Can we get a clarification on this?

CONVERT.SQL is only for UniData.
DataVu uses UOJ and JDBC. When you actually *run* the queries it does it via
SQL. Remember that DataVu can use more than one data source, including SQL
databases. This keeps everything uniform and always you to use those data
sources together in a more seamless
I've just been setting up DataVu Query as well and the first thing I've
noticed is that the documentation installed by the setup process does
not match the version of the software installed. Screens are completely
different.

I've managed to get this installed, define a repository, successfully
connect to it, and construct a simple query. When I run it I get a pop
up that says:
Applications Error
BIC4. 5
Any thoughts?
So far, I would not give this to an end user under any circumstances.

Task: Write a BASIC helper program that will, figure out whether or not this
routine was previously catalogued locally, normally or globally and then,
automatically, after executing a BASIC on it, execute the appropriate CATALOG
on it as well.
Possible?
Useful?
Hi Will,
Everything is possible!
Your friend in this case is the VCATALOG (verify catalog) command.
If you want to do it all in one routine, execute the VCATALOG command
from your program, capture and do a check on the output which should
indicate how the program was cataloged. Then you could
The help on VCATALOG only seems to imply that it returns verifies or does
not verify.
How does that tell me if it was catalogued at all, cataloged locally, normally,
or globally ?

I spoke to Jackie Burhans at Rocket about the issues raised in this list on
behalf of the user group and she is putting a team onto looking at how to
improve the documentation and installation process for DataVu. This is a
product U2 users want to persevere with as it will make U2 stronger in
That is cool. Wish we could have done a beta and help shake some of these
out.
Thank you Rocket for continuing to push the platform.

Hi Steve
There have been 2 betas and I have been on both and requests were made through
the Rocket newsletter. The issues are probably a combination of people
implementing on a broader spectrum of environments than was tested and also an
issue of not being as intuitive to install.
