Tom, can you elaborate when you say the only process that can modify the
lock is the one that set it. Isn't that exactly how a semaphore is
supposed to work? Both processes should be able to set the lock but only
one can have it at any moment in time. Or am I missing the point?

Is there a way in Unidata BASIC to get the (Pick-like) WHO value from
another port? On UV, I believe we can do a U50BB with a port# and it'll
return the WHO value from that port, but in Unidata, the U50BB user exit
ignores the OCONV() parameter.
What I'm really after is a reliable way to get a

Colin, I agree. In retrospect, creating the files from scratch seems to be
a bad idea.
This being a client system I don't have the flexibility to create a new
account. I set up ud_database entries for all of the known accounts and VSG
blows up exactly the same way on each with that helper
Thanks Colin; the log files, unfortunately, gave no indication of the
failure. I haven't tried the full path idea w/ VSG, but that might be worth
trying.

I've setup the ud_database to allow VSG/ODBC access to a couple of accounts
and when I try to connect to any of them via the 6.0 or 7.1 VSG I get this

Does anyone know if such an animal exists? Here's the situation:
UniObjects can be incorporated into PHP code via the COM object as long as
you're running PHP via Apache under Windows. If you're running PHP/Apache
on any other platform, well, you're outta luck as the COM object isn't
supported

Once again, the catdir issue has raised its ugly head. Here's the synopsis.
I have a customer running UV 10.2 (not 10.1 as previously mentioned) on a
SuSE Linux box. Everything will be humming along swimmingly and then
something weird happens with a catalog pointer (for reasons unknown) and
I'm trying to generate an MD5 with the DIGEST function - really simple
program - and I'm getting a return status of 1. What's wrong with this?

overall betterment in any direction, I have grave concerns over the current
kermit-chrome movement. If it were about saving the planet, that's

You can use Excel's XML features to create one sheet that has multiple tabs,
colors, formulae, etc. Warning, however, it's complicated. Create a sheet
in Excel and save it as XML and you'll see the basic structure of the
document. I used to have a link to a page @ Microsoft that described the

the results, and disconnects. Well, it disconnects *most* of the time, but
