Eric

The easiest way is to run Universe in a directory that isn't already set up as
an account.

Start -> Run -> cmd.exe

Then:

Cd \parent_for_accounts
Mkdir myaccount
Cd myaccount
\u2\uv\bin\uv

This will then pop up asking you to create the account, and the flavor.
Choose option 3.

When you Create an Account it asks for the flavor, or at least allows you to
specify the flavor.

I am running it with Fedora 7. You have to edit the install scripts and
replace 'decompress' with 'gunzip'. There might be some other error
messages coming up and you might have to install some other libraries. I
never write it down when I go through it.

Other than that it runs very nice. It feels by factor 10 faster than
Windows.

Later versions didn't do it for me and neither did Novell/Suze which I

2009-09-17 Thread Martin Scholl
I am running it with Fedora 7. You have to edit the install scripts and
replace 'decompress' with 'gunzip'. There might be some other error
messages coming up and you might have to install some other libraries. I
never write it down when I go through it.

Other than that it runs very nice. It feels by factor 10 faster than
Windows.

Later versions didn't do it for me and neither did Novell/Suze which I like
the most of the Linux distributions.

Ok,

Once they are unzipped into a directory, you can set it up in UV.ACCOUNT
manually (just a record with field 11 containing the path), or you can
LOGTO the path, e.g.

LOGTO /tmp/SALES.ACCOUNT (unix - case sensitive)

or

LOGTO C:/temp/sales.account (windows - not case sensitive)

Once you get into the account, you can start resizing those large files
over 10007.

Do I have to do anything to get Universe to recognize those accounts

something with UV.ACCOUNT? Or can I just unzip them into the
directory and then make with the LOGTO?

To get an approximate separation, use the total size in bytes:

INT( (total_bytes / 10007) / 512 ) = approx_separation

Since this is a development/testing account, you should not care too

Re: [U2] Personal Edition Modulo Limits

2009-06-04 Thread David A Barrett
You'll have to change the modulo on a system that will allow the larger
modulo first. What I would do would be to create a new file on the
original system with a smaller modulo and a bigger separation and then
copy all of the records into it. Then I'd ftp *that* file over to the PE
system and rename it. In steps:

On the original system...

>CREATE-FILE FILENAME.NEW 18 9973 4
>COPY FROM FILENAME TO FILENAME.NEW ALL

ftp here

On the PE system...

>AE VOC FILENAME
>AE VOC DAB.WORK

AE 4.0-beta - first version for Universe; ported from Unidata.
AE command: HELP ALL, or HA, displays online documentation.
AE command: SPOOLHELP -BRIEF prints summary documentation.
AE command: SPOOLHELP -FULL prints complete documentation.

Top of "FILENAME" in "VOC", 3 lines, 22 characters.
001: F
002: FILENAME
003: D_FILENAME
Bottom.

*--: 2
002: FILENAME
*--: R
002: C:\{where-ever I put the file when I ftp'd it}
*--:FI

On the original system...

>DELETE-FILE FILENAME.NEW

That should do it. Of course, everywhere you see "FILENAME" put the
actual name of the file, and for "FILENAME.NEW" use the actual name with a
".NEW" extension on it.

Good luck.

I apologize, I've been too long away from UV. Just look in the manual
for Distributed Files. They are one of my favorite features of UV.
Wish Unidata had them. Great for ORder History Data, can make a dated
partfile that is sized independently and a super-dict that ties them all
together for TCL work.

Okay, I managed to get everything imported and all - and issue a
resize command.

I'm not exactly sure of the ratio for increasing the separation vs
decreasing the modulo, but I took a wild guess.

The problem is that it seems to corrupt the file - so that if I then
do a "LIST FILE" I get "0 records"
I tried UVFIXFILE on it and it said it fixed "0 records" and sure
enough the file has "0 records" if I LIST it.

I looked at the file from bash, and it still showed as being quite
large, so there does seem to be data in it.

Starting with a disclaimer that I'm a UniVerse newbie:

I'm doing some integration work with Universe and I'm having
trouble importing some data into my Personal Edition install.

I always get this error :

Please resize it to modulo <= 10007 in order to use it in Personal
Edition.

On any file of large size - obviously, I don't want to change the
modulo on the live data just to import it into PE, but I can't
figure out how I can import any of this data into PE from our
other UniVerse instance.

I actually need neither performance or completeness here, just
"structural" sameness from the live data.

I saw in the archives that somebody had said this "can be done." -
but didn't go into any further detail about how to do it.
Tantalizing!

2009-06-02 Thread Augusto Alonso

Hi.
I've made some tests and proved you can workaround palying wirh the
sparation.
You need to decrease the modulo under 10007. So increase your separation (in
power of 2) as you need.
For example, a file with a TYPE,MODULE,SEPARATION of 18, 26573, 8 could be
resized as 18, 9973, 32 without loosing of performance.

Subject: [U2] Personal Edition Modulo Limits

Starting with a disclaimer that I'm a UniVerse newbie:

I'm doing some integration work with Universe and I'm having trouble
importing some data into my Personal Edition install.

I always get this error :

Please resize it to modulo <= 10007 in order to use it in Personal
Edition.

On any file of large size - obviously, I don't want to change the modulo
on the live data just to import it into PE, but I can't figure out how I
can import any of this data into PE from our other UniVerse instance.

I actually need neither performance or completeness here, just
"structural" sameness from the live data.

I saw in the archives that somebody had said this "can be done." - but
didn't go into any further detail about how to do it. Tantalizing!

Thanks,
Stephen

I haven't tried, but my first thought is Distributed File, make it

Running 10.x on Win2K you can also get this error if you install certain
programs in Program Files, iirc. Some stuff won't start if you have a
space in the path name.

Sounds like the UniRPC Service is not started. Use UniVerse Control and
verify the services are started. If not, manually start using Windows
Services, rt. click My Computer\Manage then Services and Applications. Under
Services check UniRPC Service for troubles. If it will not start, make sure
all applications are shutdown and reinstall UniVerse.

I'd start by checking start>settings>control panel>administrative
tools>services to see if the UniRPC service is running.
From there, check your firewall on the machine and be sure the UniRPC
port (31438 if I remember correctly) is open

2005-07-29 Thread Gordon J Glorfield
PE would definitely NOT be a good choice. As well as user limits there
are also file size limitations. IIRC the limit is a modulo of 1000.

The license agreement would be a problem also. No commercial use. PE is
licensed for development, training and testing only.

Rather than PE, I would think simply getting a reduction in current
licence count to reduce ongoing maintenance (or even going off
maintenance?) would be the go - obviously depends on how big the iron
is that drives the system :-)

Reporting Tolls - if your data is already exposed as ODBC, then lots of
options - if not, then you still have "native" options - I think
Informer & mvQuery run against Unidata ?

Goo'day,

Last time I looked, not too recently, there was a modulo/separation maximum...

And, probably more importantly, isn't u2 PE for "private", ie,
non-commercial use only??

Might be a spot of bother on both counts.

Only 1 or 2 users.
