REPOSTED FOR NON-MEMBER Pankaj Gupta [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Hi all,
I am having a very strange problem in UNIDATA 6.1 (on AIX unix
box) Every thursday or month end we run one process which generates a
report.
The program is basically a phantom and runs at 9 PM. The steps to

Our company uses Citrix Metaframe 4.0 with Unidata 6.0 and we have don't have
any significent issues. Citrix has clients that run on almost every platform.
We also have a couple of MAC uses that access our systems fine. With Citrix
Hi - I have had experiance of a VB app that connects to Unidata, with the VB
app distributed via citrix.- This was on windows, but I believe there is a
mac citrix client so it should be fine. One thing to note is that we did
use the IP address of the vb client for security, however in a citrix
Pankaj,
Any screen output should also go to the PH file, you can put various CRT
statements in your program to try and trace it. Add the date and time to
each line of output. Because you get the PHANTOM completed successfully,
it sounds more like your program is not working correctly, perhaps
I've gotten SQL 2005 to connect to Unidata 6.0 as a linked server. I
then setup a view using openquery to access a view. Next I have the
view being used to create a SQL2000 cube in analysis services. Once the
cube is built the system doesn't release the memory being used. Is

I have just tried to add a new terminal to Universe and I compiled the
terminfo.src using
Uvtic -v /usr/ibm/uv/sample/terminfo.src
And got;

I am trying to copy a universe directory to a test area however when I log
into the test account all of the VOC pointers are missing from the account.
Is there a command that recreates these pointers or is there a procedure for
moving an accounting.
Thanks

Perhaps you should do:
tic -v /usr/ibm/uv/sample/terminfo.src
either before or after
uvtic -a -v /usr/ibm/uv/sample/terminfo.src

Hi Dave,
Try logging directly into that 'new' account, I believe UniVerse
will recognize that some VOC items do not match '???' and ask if you'd
like to update the VOC. Answer Y to copy in verbs and stuff.

You can try CLEAN.ACCOUNT to restore the pointers.
And of course make sure none of the files you have copied have any indices
attached. These use absolute pointers: one of the standard mistakes is
copying a file to test leaving an absolute pointer to a live index file.
Otherwise you are
Dave,
Have you created the TEST (or its equivalent) account as a Universe
account?
If you are on a Windows O.S., did you use the xcopy command rather than the
Windows copy function or copy-and-paste function.

Problem Solved;
What happened was that the terminfo.src file was corrupt. Im not sure
how this hsppened. I am the only one messing with things of this nature
at work. I must have ftp'd or samba'd the file at some point and it
took a whack.
The other thing I missed was the '-a' in the uvtic
Yes that works Ken
echo $? returns a 2 if dbpause is ON , 0 if OFF
What hapens is we do a refresh of our dev system from live over a weekend
and need to pause the live data so our dev system gets a good snapshot.
However unfortunately we have users that may need to do enquiries for gas
Folks,
I am about to upgrade from UniVerse 10.0.15 to 10.1.18 on Windows 2003

One of the new 'uvconfig' tunables is UVTSORT

Thanks Marc.
The problem is too wierd now. Sometimes I am getting Phantom completed
successfuly but some times the phantom logs itself was not created. There
is no trace if the phantom was started or not.

Windows is usually happy with multiple threads in a process. If you have the
opportunity, try it both ways, and let us know whether you see any difference
when sorting large numbers of records (and/or multi-level sorts). As far as I

Ray,
One data point so far:
HP BL-20 blade, two 'HYPErthreading' Intel Xeon CPUs (looks like
4 CPUs to O/S)
Sort ~210MB file with ~2.3M records by @ID (multi-character
alphanumeric value, e.g. E996893|13787|DFA-OPH2|21)

Two runs in each pass,
Multi-threaded sort takes more overheads. The more data, the lesser the
proportion of overhead. You seem you have found roughly the break-even point.
(In larger countries than NZ, 210 MB is not a lot of data!)

UPDATE.ACCOUNT will reinstate VOC pointers to the system files.
You will need individual SETFILE commands to reset any lost file pointers.
