If this is a worldwide criminal tracking database I imagine the vetting of
any such volunteers will be very very strict otherwise the security
implications will be vast.

I presume this is an intermittent error you are getting ?
Are you using the latest uodotnet.dll that goes with udt 7.1 ?
I see you are on windows, i am not sure if it has the same problems - i know
on *nix you have to get the LANG env variable correct.
This may happen i suppose if your backend
Surely an interface into each countries criminal database would be easier to
maintain - in the uk we have the PNC (Police National Computer) which
contains all such records, access to this is very tightly controlled. I know
our police have enough paper work to do without having to fill in records
Bob,
I'm thinking along the same line as Symeon.
In the US we have Nat Crime Infor Cntr (NCIC) which (I assume is still)
administered by the FBI.
Are you suggesting that local folkal be able to also share crimes/incidents
that don't make it onto the NCIC?
It's been years since, but I was the
This sounds very interesting and a worthy concept. But as others have stated,
there are already packages of one kind or another in place. Even if yours is

Good question. Actually it will provide automated XML interfaces to any
existing systems as defined in the relatively new standards called NIEM. This
will allow automatic feeds from not only existing record management systems but
also to existing dispatch systems. The hardware interface can be
Very perceptive. Yes, there are millions of records that are not easily shared
that never make it into ncic. Within those records, as happened in 9-11, are
valuable pieces of evidence. Note, that this is NOT an intelligence system. It
is a record sharing system of those millions of entries that
John,
Good questions. We have done our homework and have studied the cost/benefit
analysis.
First remember that we are a non-profit, 501(c)3 corporation. 59 of the 60
agencies interviewed have supported the concept 100%. The one holdout was a
small agency that did not fully understand it and

Are you logging the UniObjects connection? This may give you some
additional information (it usually does for me). To do so you should create
a file in the ud71 directory named serverdebug. I put the following

I resemble that remark. Actually what I was trying to get at was the
education and marketing factors. I'm not trying to slam MS or any other
operating system. I think that all technology should be used for what it is
good at. The right technology for the right task. I just think that the

I am getting the error intermittently and in production. We are using

there are clients using the older version that are also getting the

I tried setting up the logging on our development servers to see how it
works but there was really not any information being logged. All I saw
was startup type info and logging of the authentication of the user. So
only about 3 lines of logs for many queries to the database. Maybe the

If you can't rename at the Windows level, it's either file permissions or
the file is in use.
Set UniData to start manually in the control panel services applet and stop

can't rename it then it's Windows permissions

Hey all,
Can anyone tell me what (if any) the current record size limit is in UV 10.2?
We've currently found ourselves in a situation where certain fields in a data
file will contain 100K+ characters and we would like to be proactive about any
potential problems if they exist.
Thanks.
