After using the install to disk icon from a 6.10 live-cd (on a new
windows-xp computer) i decided to cancel the process. After a reboot the

Just today I tried to restart gdm with sudo /etc/init.d/gdm restart from
an X terminal. The server shut down (it took quite some time, 10
seconds, for a while I thought the system crashed), and I was left
looking at a text console.
I will have to try get more debug. Mine also crashed with signal 11. I had set
the screen mode to 1024x768, and clicked apply, then went to the screen mode
dialog again, and then hit apply as there was nothing else I wanted to change.
It then promptly hung.

The Xorg.0.log above it from the dapper live cd. The exact same thing
happens with later versions of the Ubuntu live cd and it always have to
reconfigure X to use vesa to get the live cd to work.

Has anyone seen a Mobility X700 PCI-E card that *did not* need the
MonitorLayout line? If not, I would suggest to apply the patch from
comment #49 which will provide a good enough workaround until the ati
driver has been fixed. From the upstream bug it seems like it will not

I got the same Error when trying to print several PDF files. But the
error didn't occur with all PDFs, even though all the files are very
similar. So I examined the pdfs with pdfinfo:

Unfortunetly, this is not a bug against firefox but against an
extension. Does this happen only on Ubuntu? Is it possible that the
extension is at fault? Do you have a link to the extension?

After last update (about a couple days ago) language of the Exit window (where
Shut down - Reboot - Hibernate etc.) changed to English (I have a Russian
version). I suspect the language-pack-gnome package.
No other changes of language noticed.

I have Ubuntu Edgy, updated today.
Hardware: Notebook HP NC6000, 1 GB of RAM.
When I choose Hibernate after a normal boot it works. Resuming from
hibernate works. But trying to hibernate second time fails. Also, after
resuming from hibernate swapon -a fail.

This sounds like Bug 35495 which I haven't been able to reproduce on kde
3.5.5.

Can you try out the following? If you are on Feisty, update foomatic-db
to the newest version and then create a print queue for your printer
where you choose the Brother HL-1040 as your printer model and hl7x0
as the driver.
If you are on an older Ubuntu version, download the following PPD

@Michael Vogt: I'm fixed. I was reading on the pickle bug page...anyway
you posted that running the following worked for you:
$ sudo python2.5 /usr/sbin/update-app-install ; gnome-app-install
It worked for me as well and Add/Remove from the menu works too.

Confirmed on Feisty. It should be launching guidance's displayconfig
instead of KDE's display configuration dialog.
Neat little utility, btw.
