When configuring the SATA drive in IDE mode for the Dell Inspiron 530,
the Gutsy 20071016.1 alternate installer doesn't detect the drive. So,
it just fails with the error message: No root file system is defined.
As mentionned in the syslog file, I tried booting with the irqpo
... And indeed after 2-3 hours of real usage of the trunk madwifi
driver, I have found it to spontaneously stop routing packets. It still
thinks it's connected, and can still see the AP, but nothing moves;
which is probably (though I didn't check the logs at the time as I
needed to get stuff done a

and tried the dpkg install again (after editing /var/lib/dpkg/status),
and the error repeated. It turned out to be a bad copy of

same here! Everything was working fine with feisty but not anymore with

I fixed the error... it had something to do with the nvidia raid
device... and so i had to change the line that has, "_NVRAIDBUS" to
"NVRAIDBUS" and all that's left is a single warning and that's it.
oh and on a small note i don't know which file on that site to download

If I kill the update-manager, the source-list keeps the modifications

Confirming this bug, it is still happening on Gutsy RC. Difference was I
did a fresh installation, so no backup kernel to fall back to. Booted
from the LiveCD, chrooted into the installation and then ran the
commands specified here followed by depmod. Finally I'm able to boot

Hmm I think you can also browse private photos on the web; the browser
might also have stored passwords etc.
As you said, browsers provide some options to e.g. cleanup after a web

I should say as mentioned by Adriano Provvisiero and Nikolay Pavlov.
I have also tried this on a second machine with a different ntfs
external drive that was experiencing the same problem and it resolved
the issue in that case as well.

Regarding desktop effects, I'm aware that Xgl works with fglrx for desktop
effects, but I'm usually talking about ordinary user's perspective, sorry for
not pointing that out. No ordinary user will ever install alternative X server,
