without any results, the computer hangs completly as usual. I had to go

Somehow, and I am am not sure exactly how, I have managed to get a
working FF3 by installing rc2 from the Mozilla site. Then I reinstalled
OpenOffice and got it working, though with a display bug in the template
interface. Alas I am still no wiser as to what happened!

Hi Razor, thanks for using Ubuntu and thanks for taking the time to file
this bug report. Would you mind taking a look at bug #236778 and seeing
if that is actually your issue? If so we can mark this as a duplicate
and get it more attention, otherwise if it is a separate issue we will
need more
Sounds like a good idea, although I would take this time to point out
that most software has minimal requirements and users are used to the
idea that they shouldn't be installing files that are too big for their
hard-drive. Fixing this would certainly help make Ubuntu easier to use.

I tried what I thought would be a variation on it, which was to set
gnome-terminal not to close when the shell exits. I didn't see anything
for a while, then just a couple days ago I had a shell just go dead on
me, as if I had exited it. I believe I backgrounded something just
before that, but
