I'm getting the same problem as this, being caused by the .thumbnails
folder. I've got thousands of images archived for storage and recently
extracted them. This caused nautilus to use up 100% cpu even when all
folders are closed. The only thing I can do is delete .thumbnails and
nautilus
These instructions solved my problem entirely.

I have verified that the intrepid kernel 2.6.27-9.19 would set up files
in /proc/sys that were owned by uids other than 0, and that the kernel
in intrepid-proposed, 2.6.27-10.13, fixes the issue and that all the
files and directories under /proc/sys are owned by uid and gid 0.

Patrick - I agree fully. As it seems that the reporter is not using
Launchpad anymore, and it is not clear what additional work really needs
to be done (other than reporting bugs against packages that ship
no/broken desktop files), I think we should just close this bug report.

I have the issue, too.
Adding the boot option pci=routeirq greatly improves the write
performance (twice as fast).
Kubuntu Intrepid, AMD64, latest apt-get-upgrades, linux-
image-2.6.27-10-generic.
Hardware: Asrock mainboard with NVidia nForce 630a chipset. AMD 64-Bit-
Dual-Core-CPU.
