Alberto,
I installed from the PPA. Confirming that this also fixes Bug 258357,
and that suspend-resume continue to work. You might want to also update
nvidia-settings 180.44 to keep the package versions in sync at the
release, but I'm not sure if anything has really changed there since
180.18.

snort crashes upon install in synaptics
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/353569
You receive
Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: snort
Failed when setting up the database.
ProblemType: Package
Architecture: i386
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 8.10
ErrorMessage: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 6
NonfreeKernelModules: fglrx
Package: snort-pgsql 2.7.0-19ubuntu1
As the opencompositing guys didn't get the same effect I checked every
setting in ccsm again and by enabling the glib main loop support it
seems that the problem is now gone. I did this before but enabling glib
main loop actually needs a session restart to take effect.
I will close the bug report
I can also confirm that the workaround from abais works with a Microsoft
Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000 and a Thinkpad T61.

I would suggest you do as I did. Do not install the buggy kernel update.
Go to the menu, select system -> administration ->synaptic and find your
installed kernel version. Select it and go to the menu in Synaptic,
select package -> lock version. Do the same with the kernel headers.
This way it will

In order to prove that the issue is not related to sound at all, I
tested the same two setups with a PCI network card. I am attaching the
results (lspci, lspci -v, and dmesg) below. The NIC is detected in the
upper slot, but not in the bottom slot, the same as the sound card.
