Your logs don't indicate that grub failed to install, or even that an
install was attempted. It looks like you just logged out. You mention
that you have tried both xenial and yakkety; when reusing a USB stick
for a different distribution or release, you need to format it first.

i assume this is running a snap on a classic image, not on an ubuntu core one ?
(since we have no EGL support in teh core image yet)

However, processing it in order to get sufficient information for the
developers failed (it does not generate a useful symbolic stack trace). This
might be caused by some outdated packages which were installed on your system
at the time of the report:
no debug symbol
Syslog attached. And, yes, I split that line up like you suggested and
there is still no eth0 interface. If you need more you can just ping me
on IRC. Might be faster that way.
