My laptop repeatedly kernel panics after a botched "return from suspend"
in my Samsung 900X laptop using (K)ubuntu 16.04.
Booting into 4.2.0-38-generic kernel seems to work fine.
Up until this point 4.2 and four different 4.4 kernels functioned

I have this problem as well. Was already running 16.10 Development branch
successfully, I think that when 16.10 was released that the next sudo apt
update / upgrade changed something. I started getting errors that updates
needed to be applied, but some lock file was read-only; then whole screen
the cmake change in the github issue does not fix the problem, it just causes
you to not use the broken code anymore.

Huh, that's interesting. I encountered this bug while using the system
provided version of openblas on Ubuntu 16.04. And I just fixed the bug
in openblas itself by adjusting the cmake build files, so I assumed that
that was where the bug came from in the openblas version that was

So the linux kernel regression test
./linux/tools/testing/selftests/breakpoints/step_after_suspend_test is
being run and does not return. However, running this in a clean
instance it does pass. It basically sets the RTC to wake in 5 seconds
and does a suspend and the RTC wakealarm wakes it up.

linux autopkgtest kills sshd in testbed

I really don't understand what's going on here. It's been another 6 days
now. There has been another (broken) kernel update for xenial (4.4.0-43)
which did not include this fix, and which also did not go through
-proposed. Instead xenial-proposed is still at at 4.4.0-41, which is
broken as well.

Thank you for filing this bug, it does look like a race.
We probably will need to see the systemd service files for ntp, at
least. I wonder if any of the `systemd-analyze` subcommands might be
helpful here to determine why ntpd is started twice.
