As of v24.5, running on Ubuntu 13.10 (64bit) with Openbox, I no longer
see gettimeofday calls in the strace output. TB is still polling like
mad, but is at least efficiency polling. From an strace output like
above, I now see:
(11.6%) futex
(27.4%) poll
( 4.0%) read
(45.3%) recvfrom

It's my guess that you don't want -d, as that puts in strace debugging
information. As in, information useful to the developers of strace.
What might be more helpful is the -f or -ff flags. These flags tell
strace to follow all sub processes as well, not just the first script

With a default Ubuntu Lucid RC install, all updates applied as of 24 Apr
2010, the workspace switcher mouseover text always reads:
Current workspace: Workspace 1
Even if the current workspace is 2, 3, or 4, it always reads as
Workspace 1

Actually, after next reboot, this trick did not work: it removed sound
entirely. I had to revert this change to get my sound back, but now I'm
back to the previous behavior of no sound when the volume meter is below
roughly 20%. :-(

Dan, would this be a bug I should report upstream? I would, but I don't
actually know to which project to report. Upstream is this nebulous
upstream as to opposed to projects of which I'm aware.

And that is why Dan Chen is the sound guy . Modulo Launchpad not
playing nice with those spaces in that URL, that
ignore_dB=1
did the trick. The range below 20% on the volume bar is now usable and
jives with the aural DB output from the speakers. Thanks!

0. Edit some file.
1. File → Save a Copy
2. Choose a filename that already exists.
3. It will ask Replace existing file? Answer No
4. Rename to a new filename and click save.
It saves the new file,
