I share your frustration, however, I may have a solution, if you are
adventrous
YOu will need to know how to install a .deb package
and be able to edit and change parts of your /boot/grub/menu.lst
I can write up a procedure on my Ubuntu web page but you will need to
know what I am talking about

However, many of you reporting this but may not be familiar with
getting/installing a mainline
kernel, so if you aren't then I would suggest you try the Ubuntu proposed

We will have to let the network-manager developers handle the problem.
However, I think you might be able to execute the following commands from
a terminal window and it may restore the wired interface for you
after you have returned from suspsend/hibernate
sudo ifdown eth0
sudo ifup eth0
eth0

1A / no the printer only worked on XP- Pro before .
2/ The printer disk was the Lexmark 730 series that came with the printer .
