I have the same problem as Shoko: All KDE + firefox apps I have tried so far, work with Japanese input via skim, but none of the OOo applications. The skim icon is present in the task bar but only with ordinary keyboard input mode. I cannot even open the menu of skim through clicking... It

Your problem has two aspects. The first one is, Hardy Heron is under development, then, this is unstable. Gutsy and SCIM have problems between them... I had some problems with SCIM and Gutsy. Then, I reinstalled all and made a little summary of steps to make it work. Those are placed int his
