I have 2 icons on the screen for hda3...my dapper partition which Edgy mounts
on boot, One is called hda3, the other hda3(2). This all comes after the
installer insisted my hd was a scsi drive when it's really an IDE. That has
apparently been resolved by the Kernel

With dapper there's no noticeable delay or cpu pegging for doing the same task.
If I try to remove locales package with dapper, there's only 8 additional
dependencies that must be removed as well and cancelling operation works
smoothly like it should.
With edgy, there's probably almost all

Hi,
I updated to current Edgy a week or so ago,
and since then printing did not work anymore.
I then tried to re-add the printer, and it's no longer being detected at all.
It's a HP Deskjet 600, hooked up to LPT1.

I just tried adding acpi=off to the grub stanza for the 2.6.15.26
kernel and that seems to be a successful workaround for the problem.
I'll post dmesg etc. later in the day when I'm back on that system.

Btw, according to the vmware forum (or how I understand it) it won't be

Let me clarify again exactly what is happening.
When no CD or DVD is in either of my drives, both do not show up in the places
menu and in the mount applet - fine.
When a CD is in the CD or DVD drive, the corresponding drive does show up in
the places menu and in the mount applet - also fine
I simply removed kpersonalizerrc from kubuntu-system-settings package.
Now it isn't shiped by default, this is not of any use and generates the bug.
If you experience issues after this update, simply remove your
~/.kde/share/config/kpersonalizerrc, reload kde, see kpersonalizer once and for
all
Uh, no comment in the bug you linked to says that it is intended that a
mounted DVD does not show up in the places menu or in the mount applet,
it just says that SD-card etc readers should not show up always.

right, still happens when i unmount my k750i mobile phone. It seemed to
be a failure special to with the name Memory-Stick-Laufwerk, mounting
a usb-stick with a different name does not fail.

Well, then the solution is easy: rebuild OpenOffice.org 2 with the new
dbus dependency.
Nobody seems to agree with this behavior, must be specific to my own partition
scheme.
Closing this report, edgy knot2 doesn't have this problem anymore.

I can confirm I have the same problem with my Averatec 3715-ED1 (using
via 8233/ac97). I am dual booting XP pro and dapper. It seems as though
as long as ubuntu is initially booted before xp (I generally hibernate
rather than restarting) it works. but if for instance xp is hibernated
and ubuntu is

metacity needs a newer libcm and that library would require to be
promoted to main for that. Note that spiftacity package from universe is
what you describe, an another package built with the compositor

I'm not sure I got you. The strings gdebi gives the user are wrong,
whatever it uses. I'll attach 2 screenshots to show the problem. The one
shows 0/s which really wants be 0bytes/sec (sorry I couldn't do a 20/sec
screenshot right now, but you get the picture). The other shows 211k/s
