I think that it would be nice if the process that handles the
thumbnailing is being automatically reniced to 10 or some other priority
that is a bit lower than default.

That shows that you are using the nv driver, which means that
you have an nvidia card.
I don't know what was causing the issue for you, but one possibility
is that you were using the nvidia driver before, and the packages
weren't updated in sync on your system.
As the problem is now fixed
I think, IMO, this problem should be addressed within the program. We
can provide an alternative translation anyway, but the apostrophe is a
common character in italian and the problem could come out again.
BTW, is it really because of that string that the program doesn't work?

It is impossible to type even when I connect to the computer over VNC (no
letters get through, but the resolution doesn't jump either).
The only thing that works (locally and over VNC) is the numpad when numlock is

Hi Dave,
I'm hoping they will have this issue fixed soon, I've resorted to my $20
5-in-one USB reader. Lets keep our fingers crossed. My laptop does
exactly the same thing you described so your not alone :-). The kernel
driver for this particular piece of hardware is still considered
experimental
I've used 3.3 in both Gutsy and Hardy. There is some conflicting
package(s) you need to remove first, though I don't remember which.

The current italian translation is correct, the problem is present in
the program (as you can see by the attached patch).
Removing the apostrophe in the italian translation isn't a solution to

Rhythmbox does nothing when
I can confirm this in hardy, on a dual screen setup using nvidia drivers
- it's extremely aggravating - i've been using ctrl+alt+backspace to
stop the screen flicker.
In my case it's a lot more aggressive - so hopefully it's the same
problem and will be impacted by the same fix.

I don't know if it is the same issue, but I have noticed recently
(within the last month or two) that my totem plays videos (isn't FLV
specific) at seconds per frame instead of frames per second. Using VLC
works perfectly fine, and it doesn't matter whether I am using compiz or
metacity.

Same here. keytouchd crashes on every login. Special keys do not work until
starting keytouchd again eighter in xterm or by clicking Apply in keytouch.

Your chmod workaround has simply disabled NIS and automounting, removing
all network user and filesystem access from your system. That will
