I can confirm this as well. Wireless doesn't have anything to do with it
- if you loose your VPN connection then network manager will crash.

So I don't have a jax10 right now -- sigh, sorry -- I've asked others from the 
mobile team with a jax10 to test the lpia and i386 kernels in jaunty right now 
to see whether:
- they see 2 SSD drives 2 GB each
- the DMA mode is selected as UDMA 5 or similar on boot (please attach dmesg 
output!)

If the latter isn't the case, please try with the linux-lpia kernel in
apw's PPA; thanks!

No, that's not how it works. Once the multipart block devices appear,
udev starts from the beginning again, applying rules to those devices.
E.g. devices that appear as a consequence of something in 99-foo.rules
still get the rules in 01-bar.rules applied as well.

Can you close this bug as I had trashed my ~/.gconf folder after the
upgrade to 9.04 whilst trying to trace another bug.  I had then added my
mail account using the evolution wizard.  It must be picking up search
folder settings from the ~/.evolution folder which it can no longer tie
to settings in ~/.gconf/apps/evolution

I have just repeated the process to confirm this

I created a new search folder with specific folder set to
imap:u...@server/INBOX

rm -rf ~/.gconf/apps/evolution
evolution --force-shutdown
pgrep gconfd | xargs kill

Started evolution and used Evolution Setup Assistant to add my imap
mail account.

search folder - properties - specific folder now contains

email:1234034091.16182...@hostname/INBOX

Thanks for opening the new bug.  I'm marking confirmed, and high.

I found that I could create a new key, and happily use that new keypair
for public key authentication until I rebooted.  Once I reboot, it's
almost like that key is blacklisted, and no longer usable per the
error message in the title of the bug.

I get the same issue with programs: ssh, scp, rsync, putty.  Like Matt,
I'm running ssh-agent.

Downgrading to openssh-client_5.1p1-3ubuntu1_amd64.deb solves the
problem for me.

Looking at the changelog, I see that openssh-blacklist and openssh-
blacklist-extra were dropped to suggests, and are not currently
installed on my system. Perhaps this is causing the problem?

you hit reset and aborted to resume, and the subsequent boot left us

I can confirm advice from

instructions at http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Download, namely sudo 
apt-get install linux-backports-modules-jaunty, fixes the performance problem.

I hope this can be made to work for Jaunty out of the box?

instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus 
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report 
you wish to submit.
If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using 
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a 
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I actually tried this at some point, to no avail. I forget exactly how
it failed.

I also tried running MSTSC on WinXP and Win2K virtual machines under
VirtualBox. Interestingly, I had the same problem that I have with
rdesktop. This led me to suspect a problem with something in Ubuntu
rather than with rdesktop itself, however I don't know enough about all
of the dependencies to say where to look or whether this makes sense.

All of these problems occur on my desktop. rdesktop runs fine on my
laptop, which also runs Hardy.

It's a persistent and frustrating problem, to say the least.

Using Ubuntu 9.04 up-to-date as of 12 Feb, on a Dell Vostro 1500.

The kernel reports that there is a RJ45 cable plugged into the RJ45
port, but there is none. This leads to strange behaviors, like for
example Network Manager trying to obtain an IP address for eth0 at each
session start.

I'm using Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope up-to-date as of 12 Feb, on a
Dell Vostro 1500.

About 50% of the time when I shut down the computer, at the end of the
shutdown process, the screen is divided in two ugly parts showing both a
blinking cursor, and the computer doesn't shutdown.

* Sometimes when I press the power button, the computer will shutdown (maybe 
20% of the time)
* If I press Ctrl+Alt+Suppr, the terminal says [md] restarting all devices, and 
the computer reboots.

This sounds like a clear somewhat. Well, I suspect a bit that this driver 
working with the cards in question was pure luck somehow. It looks like some 
things are configured according the the pci id and some things depend on what 
they call MAC. All of the cards with problems where non-8169 but as the MAC is 
unknown it is drops through to be the same as for a 8169. One thing this caused 
was that one register which should not be used on more recent chips got used 
(and with one of the newer patches did not get initialized). So lets try to go 
the other way round. I added some patches that should give support for 8101 
chipsets, so the unknown MAC messages should vanish and hopefully make those 
cards working correctly.

run out?  Is this reproducible say over 10 cycles.  Has suspend ever
worked in the past, if so which kernel release (cat
/proc/version_signature)?  Please include any information as to the
circumstances leading up to this failure.

I would like to add, that it is not necessary to have Windows installed
to make the switch work on a VAIO Z notebook. It is sufficient to boot
from a XP cd and run the install until it blue screens. A soft reboot
via the power switch is going to make the switch LED work and it is
possible to use the nvidia card. As i dont think there is any special
driver on a win xp sp2 cd, it might be possible get the correct
behaviour with bios or acpi magic ??

thank you for your care about it.
I think I messed up this bug report, as I finally realized it is about several 
possibly unrelated issues: I apologize.

Actually, the originally reported lockup events has ceased after
deactivating NetworkManager on boot and manually setting up the network
after login. I have no idea whether the bug is in NetworkManager or in
Xorg, but at least there is a workaround.

Regarding the kernel panic, I submitted a new bug (Bug #321972), and
provided more detailed information pertaining this specific issue.

I got also problems with repainting of the message window. After
minimizing and unminimizing the window, all written and typed message
are visible

The error occurs only with compiz fusion running as window manager.
Pidgin works fine (windows will be repainted), if I've turned compiz
fusion off.

No way to use internet external  after a VPN connection, due to wrong route 
table.

When I connect to my VPN using Network Manager, I end up with the wrong
route table. Here's what I start with:

After connecting, I get this:

 I don't think the first entry should appear in my route table. There's
no reason for that. Also, the default route has been changed to ppp0. I
don't want that.  From my /var/log/messages file, I can see the endpoint
of the tunnel:

Feb 12 08:13:06 localhost pppd[5046]: local IP address 10.6.250.118
Feb 12 08:13:06 localhost pppd[5046]: remote IP address 10.6.250.25

I would expect the 10.6.250.25 to appear in the route table, if
anything.

Here's what I do manually to get back to normal:

sudo route add -net 10.6.0.0 netmask 255.255.0.0 dev ppp0
sudo route add -net default gw 192.168.0.1
sudo route del -net default dev ppp0

Now I have:

Could you please let us know the type of machine this is (make and
model).

I see you had a resume from suspend which lead to a flashing capslock,
which indicates a kernel panic.  Is this reproducible, if so then its
worth trying to suspend from VT1 (hit ctrl-alt-F1 and login and run pm-
suspend), we may see the panic strings then, it is also helpful to boot
no_console_suspend to delay blanking of the console as long as possible.

I installed on one disk many i386 Ubuntu systems. I boot 8.04.1, 8.10
and 9.04 alpha3. I am testing the new Jaunty and I keep a production
environment to recover from a crash.

The Live desktop CD and DVD show an image shift of the desktop of 1 cm
to the right. The shift occurs when I use the nv driver for X. When I
use the nvidia (proprietary) driver, the desktop is well centered in the
Screen. The image is also well centered when I boot Windows XP at a
resolution of 1024x768x32bpp.

I'm reinstalling jaunty alpha4. (It crashed today on upgrade 20090212.)
I will load xconf for nvidia and edit xorg.conf for nv accordinly.
I will submit the xorg.conf with new refresh rates for my screen.

My graphics card is a Asus Nvidia 7600GS.
The main screen is a Dell E771p.

As this sounds like its a failure on resume, can you describe what you
see.  Can you also try suspend/resume from VT1, hit ctrl-alt-f1, login,

  in mind that the workaround for, for instance the Sansa, is to disable
  MTP support on the device, other devices, like the Sony has no such
  option, and are either connected in mass-storage mode, or MTP mode, not
  both.
  
  What I expect to happen:
  - For Ubuntu to just mount the device, or, at the very least ask the user 
whether he/she/it wants to use it as a music device or a USB mass-storage 
device (or even an automated per-device preference)
  
  What happens:
  - Device is unusable.  I can no longer copy files/folders to the device. This 
involves losing the ability to copy other media files to the device (In 
particular video)
  
  The workaround in this case seems to be remove mtp support by removing
  libmtp8 - but this has unintended side-effects: It becomes impossible to
  use mtp-only devices, and rhythmbox depends on it, and so gets
  uninstalled if you attempt.

thanks. Unfortunately not so useful at I was hoping this would be
fixed in 2.6.27 (and thus my X would become usable again).

2.6.28 has the Graphical Execution Manager (GEM) and portions of
Kernel Mode Setting (KMS) which cause problems with X, whereas 2.6.27
does not. Hence the query for sound modules (which was all that was
not working).

suspend/hibernate ever worked in the past, if so which kernel release
(cat /proc/version_signature)?  Please include any information as to the
circumstances leading up to this failure, for example did your battery
run out?

What happened when you resumed from hibernate.  Did the machine lock up,
did any messages come out?  If it is reproducible could you try the
hibernate from VT1, press ctrl-alt-F1, login, and run pm-hibernate
there.  If you could test and report back here that would be helpful.

I also had this problem and in the end gave up, because upgrading to
Intrepid killed my sound, wireless network and graphics drivers and I
spent hours trying to fix them.

I ended up re-installing the entire thing fresh and found that
ndiswrapper worked more smoothly than it ever has before.  Clearly
something is going very wrong in the upgrade process.

I wanted to contribute to suspend testing, therefore I hav run the script

Laptop suspends fine, it also auto-resumes after 10 sec timeout, but I
end up with blank screen. As keyboard is working (CapsLock turns LED
on/off), I have tried to switch consoles (Ctrl-Alt-F1 / Ctrl-Alt-F7),
which got me back to my KDE desktop (properly protected by lock).

CPU load was high (1 core was 100%), generated by vbetool process. If
I have continued the test (with next suspend cycle), it failed to
suspend. If I kill the vbetool process (which requires another console
switch to get back to normal KDE desktop), then next suspend will work
and resume will behave the same (blank screen, console-switch needed,
have to kill vbetool, another console-switch needed).

It looks like this vbetool is causing problems to my system.

This is a simple PC, with MSI MB on 845PE chipset, Celeron 2.0Ghz and
nvidia GF ti4200 videocard. It doesn't have a battery as you might have
already guessed. Unfortunately, this is the first time I tried hibernate
function on ubuntu with this PC, so I cannot provide you with more info.
I just hit 'hibernate' button in XFCE menu and PC hangs.
