I have the same problem with calibre vs. 0.5.14 on Slackware. The main
developer posted a comment on a forum to temporarily fix this issue. According
to him you need to comment out this line:

Same exact problem for me ; xv stopped working with the X11 error: BadAlloc
thing after upgrading to jaunty. Adding Driver 'intel' doesn't make any
difference. Playing videos with x11 is awfully slow on this machine, sometimes
even in 800x600, so it's not an acceptable fallback.

FYI, I still get the bug in the latest Jaunty with compiz
1:0.8.2-0ubuntu8.1 and xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.12.1-0ubuntu2.
I can confirm that the driver doesn't support DRI2 on my card
(Xorg.0.log says (II) Loading extension DRI2 / (II) AIGLX: Screen 0 is
not DRI2 capable).

this is a whole other bug in the kernel in ubuntu at the mo. one which I
don't get so

My test-app (wine CoD4) isn't running with a nice level above zero. But
perhaps there's a problem with the kernel incorrectly recognising nice
levels. Shouldn't I set it to one rather than zero though? The default
setting is currently zero.

In Ubuntu 9.04 on a Dell XPS Gen 2, my USB flash drives are not mounted
at all. Previously, with earlier versions of Ubuntu, I had an
intermittent problem where flash drives plugged into my monitor's USB
ports were not recognized, but I could get them to be by typing lsusb.
Using sudo apt-get remove -s libpng12-0 shows 319 packages would be
removed.

occur if you disable desktop effects while using the NVIDIA driver?
