I have tried several other flash disks, and they work. I now suspect
that I am dealing with a flash disk that has died. It has very recently
been working with Windows, though. So, either the disk just died, or
Linux is more sensitive to dead media.

I am seeing and feeling the fan running on high 100% of the time.
I see the Nvidia X-Server settings thermal monitor at 110 deg C.
I have been running Ubuntu 9.04 for about a month and just in the past
week noticed the laptop running very hot.
I have been running movies
I tried the disk on another system and can confirm that it is indeed
dead. That's the source of the problem. It's not a Linux issue. I
apologize; I guess it didn't occur to me that my main hard drive AND my
main flash drive could both die on the same day!

Since the WLAN was suspected in Bug #300693, I activated the radio kill
switch in the BIOS. Now the wireless LED is always off. This makes no

I have the same problem in Jaunty with an integrated RT2500 chip. I hibernate
and then wake up and the applet says wireless disabled. Have to do a restart

I have run the gnome-settings-daemon in a terminal with --debug --no-
daemon, but it only ever crashes during startup so I doubt it will help
much.
So, I have edited the command-line for the GNOME Settings Daemon in
Startup Applications and added --debug there. Hopefully next time it
fails to

The Samsung NC20 autodetection was added in Openchrome revision 737. In
Jaunty there is only 713. The Samsung NC20 support is available only in
Karmic release.
