2010-08-06 Thread Jacob Anawalt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: postfix

The error message looks very similar to the one in bug 378955 marked

[Bug 613999] Re: openvpn is started after samba (smbd, nmbd)

2010-08-06 Thread Clint Byrum
Confirmed on maverick, this is a problem with /etc/init/smbd.conf using

start on local-filesystems

I have not tested this, but one work around may be to change this to

start on started rc

which will cause smbd to come up after all of the traditional init.d
scripts have been started.

For the long term, services which create or change network topologies
will need to be started as a group and then emit a signal that controls
when network-aware services (like nmbd especially) are started.

Associating to ifupdown because this is where the current net-device-up
signal is emitted, which is insufficient for network-aware services when
other services / jobs may in fact bring interfaces up.

2010-08-06 Thread Valentijn Sessink
I'm still not sure, but doesn't the /etc/init.d/sendsigs script,
combined with the Ubuntu 10.04 /etc/init/rc.conf, make up for a giant
race condition? Where a shell script tries to find out which processes
it should not kill? This is, at least, what I'm making of it, when
running libvirt on a server that has no other services running (i.e. the
sendsigs script is run almost right away).

[Bug 614320] [NEW] bacula awk script for sqlite catalog backup broken

2010-08-06 Thread David Stenglein
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: bacula-director-sqlite3

When I try to run a catalog backup it appears to be endlessly looping
and recreating the sqlite dump. It is not quite endless though, just a
bug in the awk script.

The script /etc/bacula/scripts/make_catalog_backup_awk contains:

system(echo '.dump' | /usr/bin/sqlite3 /var/lib/bacula/bacula.db
/var/lib/bacula/bacula.sql)

This gets run as part of:

/usr/bin/awk -f /etc/bacula/scripts/make_catalog_backup_awk -v
cat1=MyCatalog /etc/bacula/bacula-dir.conf

which essentially does the sqlite dump for every line in bacula-
dir.conf.

The simplest way to solve this and maintain compatibility with other
versions of this script for other databases is to use:

BEGIN {system(echo '.dump' | /usr/bin/sqlite3 /var/lib/bacula/bacula.db
 /var/lib/bacula/bacula.sql)}

This may have gone unnoticed since the sqlite3 back-end is not the
default for bacula installs.

Hi Thierry,

First, thanks for any help on this sticky problem you can give. Here's
what I've done along with notes:

I gave the command: sudo apt-get install --reinstall mysql-server-5.1
which results in:

This refuses to time out, hangs completely and won't exit with ctrl+c,
so a force quit is needed.

I then opened another shell and tried:
mad...@madmod-laptop:~$ sudo dpkg --configure -a
dpkg: status database area is locked by another process

So then I restarted the computer and opened a shell and tried:

This resulted in:

[Bug 614393] [NEW] [maverick] antlr3 3.2-4 FTBFS due to missing deps in main

2010-08-06 Thread Thierry Carrez
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: antlr3

antlr3 was recently synced from Debian, but it FTBFS due to new build
dependencies that are only available in universe.
The problem is it pulls in all maven infrastructure packages, which ends up
representing ~30 new packages in main. One week from feature freeze it doesn't
sound like a good moment to pull that in, for the dubious benefit of getting
altlr3 bumped to 3.2 (which may or may not break eucalyptus in the process).

We should therefore revert to the previous version in Ubuntu and
reconsider that move early in N.

Re: [Bug 350936] Re: Should shut down domains on system shutdown

I have seen the commit that implements this functionality and it's, as
usual, a sysvinit script. Unfortunately, I think this is a use case
where upstart can't do anything yet and the only solution (without
moving back to a sysvinit script) is doing an ugly workaround in
/etc/init.d/sendsigs. I've tried to subscribe Scott James Remnant

[Bug 344096] Re: library for rrd develop

2010-08-06 Thread Clint Byrum
Linking to the debian bug report and marking as Fix Released

Per the changelog entry:
  * debian/librrd-dev.install:
- Added /usr/lib/pkgconfig/librrd.pc (Closes: #522144).

This is a pretty tiny change and simply adds a file to the binary
distribution, so I am nominating this for hardy.

[Bug 414010] Re: rrdtool .pot template is missing, existing .po files not imported

Its quite unclear what the status of this bug is at the moment. While it

I'm unfamiliar with the translations process, can somebody who

appropriately?

[Bug 414010] Re: rrdtool .pot template is missing, existing .po files not imported

2010-08-06 Thread David Planella
As far as I know, there is no one working on this right now. From the
translations side, what we can do is to give advice on the solution:

All Ubuntu packages in main and restricted need to create a .pot file
(also called template) during the build process. That allows
translations to be imported into Launchpad and then to be shipped in
language packs.

The creation of the .pot file is done through a rule in the debian/rules
file, which is what rrdtool is missing. that means its translations
cannot be imported (although there aren't any yet) and it is not exposed
in Launchpad for translation. For more information on how a package
should generate .pot translation templates, you can see the following
document:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuDevelopment/Internationalisation/Packaging#TranslationTemplates

Strangely enough, after testing a local build of the package following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuDevelopment/Internationalisation/RecipeVerifyingTranslationUploads,
I've noticed that rrdtool seems to generate the rrdtool.pot file inside
rrdtool_1.4.3-1ubuntu1_i386_translations.tar.gz, but it is somehow not
getting imported. I'll have to investigate why on Monday.

As per the comment on Adi not being subscribed to the bug: he actually
is, as he is a member of the Ubuntu Translations Coordinators team, the
bug supervisor for the ubuntu-translations project, so he is subscribed
to all ubuntu-translations mail

[Bug 589611] Re: client sent HTTP/1.1 request without hostname (see RFC2616 section 14.23)

2010-08-06 Thread Chuck Short
Status of Impact: Lucid was shipped with a bug in apache that will have
hundreds of client sent HTTP/1.1 request without a hostname. This has
been fixed in apache 2.2.16 and have been backported to lucid.

How to reproduce:

1. Install apache with mod_ssl.
2. Watch your logs fill up with the above.

There should be no regressions with this patch.

I have attached the debdiff for your review.

[Bug 613683] Re: package mysql-server-5.1 5.1.41-3ubuntu12.3 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 1

2010-08-06 Thread Clint Byrum
Norbert, thank you for reporting this issue and working with us to make
Ubuntu better!

This bug in mysql-server-5.1.preinst, is mostly due to misleading error
messages. The script assumes because the mysqld init script exists, that
mysqld is in fact running, when it may very well not be.

The fix is to only try to stop mysqld if it is running, though its not
entirely clear how to reliably determine that it is running (possibly
with the pid file)

Marking Triaged and setting Importance to Low, as most users who have
installed mysql-server will in fact have it running.

[Bug 614320] Re: bacula awk script for sqlite catalog backup broken

2010-08-06 Thread David Stenglein
You're welcome. Amusingly enough, right after posting this bug I've
switched to using mysql. I'm running bacula on a single machine and
using sqlite causes huge problems with the way it handles synchronous
writes when there are a large number of files to be scanned for backup.

Glad I could catch that bug first, though.

[Bug 614632] [NEW] Ubuntu 10.4 Lucid Kernel 2.6.32-24-generic-pae No wake from USB

2010-08-06 Thread Dion
Public bug reported:

Package - LIRC
Release - Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
Version - 0.8.6-0ubuntu4.1
Expected Result - Able to resume from S3 by USB

Actual Result -

No power is provided to the USB IR transceiver, when you press any
button on the remote once it is in an S3 state you get nothing. It
appears as though all power has been cut to the USB ports.

If I revert to an earlier Kernel it works fine and you can r esume by
USB IR transceiver from S3

sudo apt-get install linux-image-2.6.32-22-generic linux-
headers-2.6.32-22-generic

As a second note when you revert Kernels you get no sound on resume and
to get sound back you need to reboot. I have tried restarting alsa by
command but this does not work.

[Bug 614224] [NEW] hangs forever scanning afs

Public bug reported:

I have an afs mount on my machine, and baobab ambitiously

[Bug 585092] Re: giant IO delays on unmount

2010-08-06 Thread Olivier Gagnon
@Stephan Bader: from my research, the *two* bugs are related to the
cleaning of the dirty inodes. Umounting a ext4 filesystem with dirty
inodes will generate a lot of IO since the journal is mixed up. The same
dirty inodes problem exist when there is a lot of IO since jdb2 tries to
keep the journal up to date while there are errors. Umounting is just
the same process but done in a single operation for the whole
filesystem.

  * Merge from debian unstable. (LP: #614222) Remaining changes:
+ Don't hardcode --with-libxul-sdk in debian/instantbird.mozconfig.
This path is not stable on Ubuntu, so populate this automatically
  - rename debian/instantbird.mozconfig = debian/instantbird.mozconfig.in
  - update debian/instantbird.mozconfig.in
  - update debian/rules
+ Bump xulrunner dependency to 1.9.2
  - update debian/control
+ Look for xpcom-config.h in the correct location in the SDK
  - add debian/patches/01xulrunner-ubuntu
  - update debian/patches/series
* Ship a real instantbird-bin rather than symlinking to xulrunner-stub.
This avoids having to do a rebuild every time we do a xulrunner update
  (which would break the symlink)
  - update debian/instantbird.install
  - update debian/instantbird.links
* Add StartupWMClass to desktop file
  - update debian/instantbird.desktop

[Bug 614088] Re: Ubuntu Netbook 10.10 Alpha 3 does not fallback to a 2D interface

2010-08-06 Thread Martin Pitt
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 600567 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/600567

Jerone, I saw you marked this an OEM priority goal. With alpha-3, the
armel images now have a new version of netbook-launcher-efl again, while
the the i386/amd64 variants only have unity. These days, intelish
netbooks all come with 3D capable graphics, and it is nontrivial (i. e.
costs a lot of boot time) to detect that and provide an automatic
switch. Moreover, Mark himself nack'ed adding this fallback to maverick,
since unity looks so much different from n-l.

However, on armel this should now be fixed.

Most Canadians don't speak French, Most Canadians who do speak French can

[Bug 614233] [NEW] Intel WiFi connection stops working under load with wpa2

2010-08-06 Thread EboMike
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

Whenever I transfer a lot of data (typically FTP), the wireless
connection randomly dies. It doesn't drop, the system still thinks the
connection is fine, but there is simply no further data coming in. At
that point, I have to go to the wireless drop-down menu and select the
same connection that I'm already connected to. That resets the
connection and everything is fine. However, this bug makes transferring
bigger (or multiple) files near impossible since it constantly happens -
it happened about 5 times in the last 30 minutes. On days when I don't
transfer a lot of data, I rarely have problems.

This is a Sony VAIO VPCS111FM. This bug is similar to 473502, but I decided to
open a new one since this is a different chipset.
This is Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS, with 2.6.32-24-generic (had this problem on all
kernels since 10.4 came out).

I don't agree, it's a bug. Even if it has low impact, the fact that we

[Bug 606509] Re: Wine 1.2 Stable is released

2010-08-06 Thread Martin Pitt
This is stretching the SRU policy quite a bit, but the overall nature
of changes look ok, so for the sake of LTS, let's digest this a while in
-proposed. Verification should include testing various Windows
applications which ran before.

There is one thing in the debdiff which looks potentially troublesome:

I know that this actually fixes the procps restart, but in environments
which use policy-rc.d to disable init scripts this would suddenly start
to run one. Since it's only procps, it should not cause too much
trouble (if /proc is not available, then you'd just go through the ||
true part), but at least I wanted to point it out. Would it be prudent
to revert that for the SRU?
