be related with some power saving issues, as it works if the interface
is in use all the time, but stops working after a while. If i disconnect

I think Super + S was chosen because it meant S for Session menu, as the
session menu is what opens when Super + S is pressed with either
indicator-applet-session or indicator-applet-complete loaded into the
panel.
