Public bug reported: When installing Wine through Ubuntu Software Centre it fails halfway through and i get an error message. Now when ever i try to remove Wine or install other software it says Item cannot be installed or removed until the package catalogue is repaired. Do you want to repair it now? Even when i do click repair nothing works. The only way i can fix it is to remove it via Synaptic Package Manager. libsound does seem to be the problem and i think i know why. I have an M-Audio 24/96 soundcard and followed a guide i found on a forum that suggested altering the file and using alsa mixer to make it work... it did work but i have not been able to install Wine since. Any idea how to install wine? i really do need it! thanks ProblemType: Package DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04 Package: libasound2 1.0.25-1ubuntu10 [modified: usr/share/alsa/cards/ICE1712.conf] ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.2.0-24.38-generic 3.2.16 Uname: Linux 3.2.0-24-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia ApportVersion: 2.0.1-0ubuntu7 Architecture: amd64 Date: Mon May 21 18:43:02 2012 DpkgTerminalLog: Unpacking libasound2:i386 (from .../libasound2_1.0.25-1ubuntu10_i386.deb) ... dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/libasound2_1.0.25-1ubuntu10_i386.deb (--unpack): './usr/share/alsa/cards/ICE1712.conf' is different from the same file on the system DuplicateSignature: Unpacking libasound2:i386 (from .../libasound2_1.0.25-1ubuntu10_i386.deb) ... dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/libasound2_1.0.25-1ubuntu10_i386.deb (--unpack): './usr/share/alsa/cards/ICE1712.conf' is different from the same file on the system ErrorMessage: './usr/share/alsa/cards/ICE1712.conf' is different from the same file on the system InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Precise Pangolin - Release amd64 (20120425) SourcePackage: alsa-lib Title: package libasound2 1.0.25-1ubuntu10 [modified: usr/share/alsa/cards/ICE1712.conf] failed to install/upgrade: './usr/share/alsa/cards/ICE1712.conf' is different from the same file on the system UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Affects: alsa-lib (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-package precise -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1002403 Title: package libasound2 1.0.25-1ubuntu10 [modified: usr/share/alsa/cards/ICE1712.conf] failed to install/upgrade: './usr/share/alsa/cards/ICE1712.conf' is different from the same file on the system To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-lib/+bug/1002403/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 980528] Re: Inconsistent wording in messages from fsck
Ok. Turns out this is due to a partial en_GB translation in /usr/share/locale-langpack/en_GB/LC_MESSAGES/mountall.mo. I've confirmed that the mountall.pot translation template in launchpad is up-to-date, so this is a translation issue, not a bug in mountall. It appears that the translations given in the en_GB translation are inconsistent - with 'disc' used as a spelling in only one of the translations and 'disk' used in the others. Someone will need to update the translations to make this consistent. David, what's the right way to escalate this issue to the en_GB translators? I don't think I'm qualified to say which spelling should be used here, but it does need to be made consistent. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/980528 Title: Inconsistent wording in messages from fsck To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mountall/+bug/980528/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Please, oh Ubuntu gods, allow the Global application menu to always be visible! [Bug 998651] Re: Unable to enter password to decrypt harddisk after upgrading to ubuntu 12.04 with wireless keyboard
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.4kernel[1] (Not a kernel in the daily directory). Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag(Only that one tag, please leave the other tags). This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'. If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'. If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'. Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as Confirmed. Thanks in advance. http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.4-precise/ ** Tags added: needs-upstream-testing ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/998651 Title: Unable to enter password to decrypt harddisk after upgrading to ubuntu 12.04 with wireless keyboard To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/998651/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Shutdown and Reboot failure on Dell XPS/NVidia/12.04 Sometimes sudo reboot -h now works, sometime not. Tried stopping all unity processes using system monitor before a reboot (sudo reboot -h now) and this seems to work but it is terribly inefficient The unity processes stopped: unity-lens-video unity-music-daemon unity-files-daemon unity-applications-daemon unity-scope-video-remote Then tried it using the ubuntu shutdown button and it also seems to have worked Does unity prevent the shutdown completing -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/991977 Title: Ubuntu 12.04 hangs on shutdown To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/991977/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 682788] Re: Improve Unity menus
One reason use global menu only for maximized windows is a bad idea because you shouldn't be trying to encourage people to be maximising windows. The reason we have larger screens is so we can fit more than one window on the screen at any one time, I usually have several. Microsoft Windows users are the main culprits of the maximize everything culture and this is not something anyone should be aiming for. What OSX does with it's permanent menus actually works well and I've never heard any complaints about it. Everyone who has been forced to use Unity at the company I work for has complained about this particular aspect of it. The solution is easy, just enable always visible Global Menus, or at-least allow us the option to enable then. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/682788 Title: Improve Unity menus To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-design/+bug/682788/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 985145] Re: no audio on ubuntu 12.04 on an intel hda vt1705
[BACK TO SQUARE 1] So, having got it all working, the new linux kernel headers arrived. 3.2.0-24-generic #37 upgrade to #38 and now it has all stopped working . Argh... (check with 'uname -r' and 'uname -v') FWIW: people used to the terminal alsa panel may have noticed my confusion with this 'm' command that I was advised to use. I have now worked out that 'm' is 'mute' - Why should setting and cancelling mute work at the CLI but not in the GUI with alsa-config? I have no idea. Anyway, proper kernel fix still needed please, it seems. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/985145 Title: no audio on ubuntu 12.04 on an intel hda vt1705 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/985145/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description didn't include enough information. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures At a minimum, we need: 1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem, 2. the behavior you expected, and 3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
