Jeff Lane, I've also noticed that one may not adjust things echo'ing to
/sys/* as either a standard user, or via sudo, requiring sudo su, so
this would not be limited to just setting the cpu frequency. Using sudo
su is my expectation as this is what accomplishes these types of brute

use e1000 as a kvm network driver
variant 2:
use virtio driver and disable tso for the network card in the guest. for
example in rc.conf
ifconfig_vtnet0=inet 192.168.X.X/24 -tso
both variants work without problems.

This has resolved. I don't recall when, but I now have an icon for
E-Book Viewer (a book with a magnifying glass) in the Ubuntu Launcher
when I am reading a book and can click on it to return to the E-Book
Viewer application as expected.
