[Bug 210990] Re: [upstream] [hardy] the encoding of footers text is done incorrectly

2009-03-22 Thread Anton
As you mentioned before,
the first line is correct, and the rest is wrong(the number 24 is correct :) )

Try switching to the cp-1251 encoding(for the body), see if that helps display
the document correctly.
(It would be strange that the document does not have the correct encoding
inside it)
Maybe there is a slight difference (that wouldn't be a surprise concerning
microsoft software) between how the English and Russian versions work?
How is it that the header rendered correct? Maybe the same codepage that was
used to render the header is supposed to be used to render the body?

Have you tried the "microsoft word viewer"?

2009-03-22 Thread AmenophisIII
your logs seem to indicate that there is a problem with samba (keywords

i also don't really understand why you need to use a virtual disk to
expand a LVM (but i probably won't be able to help you anyway..).

what commands did you use?

[Bug 344705] Re: IcedTea Plugin Doesnt Work

2009-03-22 Thread Tim Frost
A possibly aggravating factor is that with both the Sun and IcedTea plugins
installed, BOTH plugins are loaded. This appears to be because xulrunner is
loading plugins from two locations:
* /usr/lib/xulrunner-addons/plugins (or /usr/lib/xulrunner-1.9.0.7/plugins,
which is a symlink)
* AND /usr/lib/xulrunner/plugins

but is only installing ONE alternative entry for the plugin, while the
Sun plugin installs seven. This appears to be because
openjdk/debian/rules is overriding browser_plugin_dirs to just be
xulrunner-addons. See attached patch.

I suspect that this bug and bug #344669 may be duplicates. This is because
applets that worked under IcedTea *before* installing the sun plugin (as I
reported in bug #344669) ceased to work after the following sequence of events:
1: the sun plugin was installed
2: update-java-alternatives --set java-6-sun
3: update-java-alternatives --plugin --set java-6-openjdk
My uncertainty is because I am running Jaunty 64-bit, while this bug does not
state which architecture is involved.

[Bug 347119] [NEW] [update] mumble

2009-03-22 Thread greenhunter
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mumble

Release Name: 1.1.8

Notes:
Murmur now uses even less resources, and only starts worker threads for virtual
servers on demand.

Ice now has callback functions, allowing you to create server-side scripts that
react to users authenticating,
moving around etc. It also supports outsourcing authentication, enabling you to
do authorize users from a
third-party database. Additionally, the Ice interface has been fully documented.

You can now use images in the server welcome text and text messages,
using regular HTML tags.

>From the server, you can add context menu items to the server, player and
>channel menu on the client, enabling
third-party feature extensions. There's a small example included which enables
in-client user registrations.

The windows installer is now fully localized.

Positional audio should now give more natural results, and we support a
lot of additional games.

Log messages can now be shown as notifications using a baloon tip, notify or
Growl. Additionally,
text-to-speech can be replaced with pre-recorded sounds.

You can now bind multiple shortcuts to every function.

The overlay now works on OSX, but is considered experimental.

[Bug 305014] Re: Authentication fails in cups web admin module

2009-03-22 Thread Jeremy Wilkins
@Till: I have set the root password on this box. It is my server and I need
true root access for some things. Although I have tried my account which also
has sudo and lpadmin rights. It could be an openldap problem, but not directly
with openldap. It seems like the web system gets stuck authenticating against
LDAP, fails and gives up instead of trying unix authentication or it could be
PAM failing. I will try to get LDAP and PAM authentication logs ASAP.
@Paul: Yes, all systems are fully upgraded to the latest versions and I am
still having authentication issues.

[Bug 313385] Re: losetup 32bit offset limit, hangs on retry, remains defunct

2009-03-22 Thread Dawning
So, I think the issue I've been having *may* be related.

I store a bunch of junk on an LVM and I needed to expand that a bit. So
I created a "virtual disk" using dd and losetup to expand my LVM.

Everything seems fine, but after some case that I'm having a hard time
identifying, I cease to be able to view certain parts of the file system
on my LVM and my dmesg and /var/log/messages get flooded with stuff like

[code]
CIFS VFS: Unexpected lookup error -112
[/code]

and

So, like I said, I'm not sure this is related.. But I think it may well
be. Though losetup's involvement may be somewhat too obscure for this
post to help much.

[Bug 346657] Re: re-generate failed thumbnails

2009-03-22 Thread David Prieto
That's the thing. Files aren't thumbnailed even if they change, like
when they finished being downloaded with Transmission. Also, if you open
a directory with videos before installing their necessary codecs you
will get the generic icons, and installing the codecs afterwards will do
no good.

Really, there are plenty of reasons to retry thumbnailing at least once
in a while.

I just noticed this only happens when doubleclicking the first station,
single clicking gives the expected result. So it would be best to unify
single and double click behaviour here.

as others above i could only get into kde by setting DRI to false within
the device section of xorg.conf.

I boot into the cli and then startx. No kdm. before the DRI fix, it
would typically freeze during the splash sequence, though sometimes it
would make it to the desktop with mouse moving but otherwise not
functioning. No keyboard either.

it is 3/22/09 and i am updated to all the latest jaunty versions of
kernel and intel and xorg and libdrm; and still not working for the 865g
without a hack.

Anyway! Yes running a video will crash the desktop. Most of the time i
end up at the cli (no kdm) with xorg messages there in print to read.
the xorg.0.log message says "could not pin xv". so i startx into kde
and open mplayer and and go to preferences to set video from xv to gl.
then to real player to turn xv off. then to electricsheep screensaver
to set it from xv to gl. I control alt backspace and then startx again
and yes i can do the electricsheep without crashing the desktop. Oh, by
the way, electricsheep uses mplayer to run the sheep.

Those interested, please note: in systemsettings within the desktop
icon/desktop effects/advanced tab; I have compositing type set to
"xrender". I had to change it from the default "opengl" to get
transparent effects in the panel and for konsole and some plasmoids.

Those still interested please also note: I have been running jaunty for
months. I have been using the xorg packages from intrepid. Everything
on my system is the latest jaunty versions, except xorg. everything has
worked "fine" "slow but functional" for months. if interested and AT
YOUR OWN risk, just go to packages.ubuntu.com and download the xorgs
you need from intrepid. then do "apt-get --purge remove xserver-xorg".
now go to directory containg all those xserver-xorg packages and do a
"dpkg -i xserver*". i must have gone back and forth with this a number
of times. every time the repositories show a new version of xorg-intel
i do a full upgrade and crash the desktop. lukily i got my little stash
of intrepid xorg to get me back in.

THANKS guys for showing me the way with DRI false. Thanks.

[Bug 347105] [NEW] seamonkey publishing broken

2009-03-22 Thread dinky
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: seamonkey

Editing in the seamonkey composer seems to work fine, and publishing
seems also to work fine (i.e., when the correct password is entered, the
dialogue says publishing is successful), however no changes are made to
any files on the website. Also in the editor impossible edits are able
to be made... i.e., one paragraph is able to be aligned to the left of
the cell, while another is centered. When saved and opened again (either
in seamonkey or firefox), the edit is of course different.

I am using the Ubuntu package available in Hardy Heron. The same problem
exists with a clean install of the program from the seamonkey website.

Hibernating via Gnome Power Manager, as well as via VT1 with pm-hibernate have
the same results.

If I can help by providing an particular logs, etc I'd be happy to.

[Bug 90694] Re: data loss in vfat partition and numerous fsck###.rec file generation

2009-03-22 Thread Sid
I had the same problem with

fsck.vfat -a /dev/sde6

I was backup my hard disk with my mp3 collection, the parition is about
55 gb and it was almost full. rysnc threw up lot of I/O errors and so i
did a fsck.

fsck.vfat -a /dev/sde6

After the fsck there were numberous fsck.rec files. Those files were
recovered but put in the top hierarchy of the drive and not in the
subfolder from where they came. But since the names are changed, how can
I put them back the original folders.

There are numerous files and numerous subfolders and also number .rec
files, so renaming them and putting back would be a big problem. Is this
Ubuntu specific or dosfstools specific ?

I am ready to supply more information if needed.

[Bug 345494] Re: Should not notify me about buddies signing in/out by default

2009-03-22 Thread Jeffrey Baker
This is a hugely annoying default, and even stands out from the field of
somewhat annoying and seriously annoying defaults that Ubuntu has lately
acquired. The popups are useless (you can't click on them), redundant
(pidgin already has audio notification _and_ buddy pounce), and hard to
remove (the config UI is not in the preferences pane of pidgin, and
there's no system-wide notification preferences UI).

For the love of all that's good and holy in the world, please dump this
"feature".

[Bug 346753] Re: pulseaudio doesn't care about default device

2009-03-22 Thread David Henningsson
I'm not really sure what the officially recommended procedure is, but
here's what works for me (Intrepid):

For pulseaudio; edit /etc/pulse/default.pa and add a line
set-default-sink nameofyoursoundcard
(where nameofyoursoundcard is something like
"alsa_output.pci_1412_1724_sound_card_0_alsa_playback_0", you can find it if
you use the command "pactl list").

After you have done that, delete the files under ~/.pulse , then logout
and login again.

[Bug 347098] [NEW] Samba crashes Windows XP Home

2009-03-22 Thread Rogue
Public bug reported:

I installed Ubuntu 8.10, then did the updates suggested by Update Manager.
I chose Places / Connect to Server... and connected to a Windows share on a
Windows XP Home computer on the local lan.
An icon appeared on the desktop.
I opened the icon and selected all the folders. The share has (according to
Nautilus) 5340 files.
I chose Places / Home Folder, created a new folder in my home folder, and
double-clicked to enter the folder.
I manipulated the window sizes until I was able to drag all the folders from
the Windows share and drop them on the new folder in my home folder.

After many files and folders had been copied, an error occurred.
Unfortunately, I was making notes on my Windows computer. The copy
operation continued. Then a while later, my Windows computer rebooted
(and there went my notes).

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System
-> About Ubuntu.

rbo...@dolphin:~$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 8.10
Release:8.10

2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy
packagename' or by checking in Synaptic.

rbo...@dolphin:~$ apt-cache policy packagename
W: Unable to locate package packagename
rbo...@dolphin:~$

3) What you expected to happen

Well, um, I did Not expect Windows to crash (although...)

4) What happened instead

Uh, Windows crashed.

[Bug 347097] [NEW] screen flashes and KDE tool bar disapears with OOo open

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

The Screen flashes when typing or opening menus and the KDE tool panel
blinks and disapears when moused over while OOo is the active window.
This did not happen until I re-installed the Nvida driver. It had done
it before when I first installed Kubuntu 8.10 and I was wondering why it
stopped. When I found that my driver needed re-installation, the
problem started up again. It is similar to bug #238056. It is
definitely buggy and annoying.

[Bug 347089] [NEW] no warning before attempting insane calculations

2009-03-22 Thread zerothis
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gcalctool

I think this is a low priority deficiency, more than a problem bug.
When I entered 64^33554432= (in scientific mode) gcalctool dutifully began
calculating it for me without so much as a "Are you sure we have the time for
this?". I did not expect it to actually start immediately, considering the
figures involved. Seems to me, some sort of notice that my request would take a
while should have been displayed before the attempt.

[Bug 347085] Re: Xtightvnc crashes frequently under xrdp

2009-03-22 Thread Martin Jackson

** Attachment added: "Attached is a crash file from Xtightvnc"
   http://launchpadlibrarian.net/24239236/_usr_bin_Xtightvnc.1000.crash

** Description changed:

xrdp requires tightvnc as its vnc server.

Using the Vista rdp client, I can connect to a vnc session through xrdp,
but the rdp session crashes, blaming Xtightvnc. The session ends
uncleanly, such that a subsequent login to xrdp yields a new session.
The crashes seem to coincide with updating windows, such as when the
update manager tries to build its list of updates.

I'm filing this bug against xrdp instead of tightvnc because a tightvnc
session started at the command line does not exhibit the same crash
behaviors - the tightvnc session stays up, and (for example) permits the
  update session to complete.
+
+ I'm running current Ubuntu Jaunty with all updates applied as of bug
+ filing (3/22/2009).
+
+ Package versions:
+ ii tightvncserver 1.3.9-4
+ ii xrdp 0.4.0~dfsg-9

[Bug 347086] [NEW] [jaunty] Flickers on switching into "Slideshow" view

2009-03-22 Thread Tom Haddon
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: f-spot

This is using f-spot 0.5.0.3-1ubuntu4 in jaunty (although the same
symptoms were evident in interpid as well).

When switching into the "Slideshow" view, the screen flickers for a few
seconds before starting the slideshow. It's flickering between the first
photo in the slideshow the f-spot window from what I can tell.

[Bug 347083] [NEW] Routine Check of Drives message does not go away until system is booted up

2009-03-22 Thread Chris Cowan
Public bug reported:

During boot-up, my machine did the "Routine check of drives: /dev/sdb1,
press ESC to skip" thing. The main boot progress bar stopped while it
did this step as it should. When it seemed the routine check finished,
and the boot-up bar continued, the "Routine check of drives:... press
ESC to skip" message still remained there erroneously.

Re: [Bug 347062] Re: package checkbox-gtk 0.7 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2009-03-22 Thread DarKnyht
When I attempted re-installation from Synaptics, it installed without
error.

The error happened during a mass update of packages (over 200 mb of data).
I had been on the road and not run updates since the 18th. Everything else
seems to be fine, but the automatic process produced this error.

If you have a way for me to retest, I will follow instructions but otherwise
I am out of my depth.

[Bug 316924] Re: Nautilus Loads Processor when there is an icons folder in the home directory

2009-03-22 Thread StewPedassle
Sorry, I got a little antsy and deleted them all permanently.

I removed all of the files to the trash at once (all four folders and
all four tarballs) and the problem stopped. I restored them all and the
problem returned. After that I deleted them all because I don't use
them. Unfortunately I have forgotten exactly what I downloaded. I re-
downloaded Amora to test what Pedro said. The tarball alone has no
effect on my system. When I unpack it, the folder causes nautilus to
creep up and max out the proc for about 8-10 seconds then drops
completely off. I move the folder to the trash and the problem ceases.

I wish I hadn't deleted all of them because I don't have the time to
play around right now. I won't be able to play around again until the
summer (I have a mock trial, appellate brief, and finals all due over
the next couple of months so I have zero free time). I am looking at
two options and will do whatever is the most helpful.

1) I can re-download all of the files (the only two I can see are Amora
and Snowish, so if anyone can see the others please tell me) and report
which packs cause which problems before I upgrade to jaunty.

or

2) I can upgrade to jaunty and try to recreate the problem.

Remember, it'll be the middle of May before I can do either of these.
Let me know what's best and I'll do it. Thank you all for your help and
sorry for being a fool.

[Bug 347082] [NEW] Scrolling compiz desktop wall wraps vertically

2009-03-22 Thread Kristopher Ives
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

I recently enabled the Desktop Wall plug-in and arranged my desktops
vertically instead of horizontally. When I scroll up I go to the
workspace above it, and the other way when I scroll down. I also
disabled the "wrap" option to avoid it "wigging out."

The problem is that no matter what the setting of the "wrap" option, the
Viewport Switcher plug-in still wraps when I scroll. Pressing
CTRL+ALT+UP/DOWN will not wrap, but the mouse scroll will.

Thanks,
Kristopher Ives
