This isn't really Ubuntu's fault, since it's the driver itself that
controls the light on the mute button/touch-switch. Theoretically, it is
the original sound driver creator's fault for not making a proper driver
for Linux users to use, and resorting to having the default audio
drivers on Ubuntu t
After several reboot and restarts most of the files deleted, although
not all of them. Some of the ones which were deleted on my laptop
actually came back. Deleted those again and finally all was gone. That
was a while ago, haven't deleted any file again, so right now all is ok.

Workaround found with help from Chris Halse Rogers:
This was failing back to VESA, because I had disabled KMS.
I had done that in an effort to fix a blank screen on boot.
The original symptom was a blank screen, although the machine would boot
and was accessible via ssh.

xpdf crashes upon openning a pdf file. When started under gdb the
segmentation fault is reported as:
Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.
0x77743c9c in GlobalParams::findFontFile(GooString*, char**) ()
from /usr/lib/libpop
The attached forces cryptdisks_start to wait until it is safe to rename
the device. In my case, the delay is typically about one second.
The attached is only a work-around, it seems to me that such logic would
be better suited somewhere in dmsetup. See bug 612310 comment #2.
